Good reminders for those just starting to ride. My motto is take it. You may not need it if you do, but you sure will if you don't!

Welcome to the club, Tobias. But, there is one very serious rule that you have broken here. I mean it is the UTMOST #1 RULE. It cannot be broken. WE NEED PICS! Of you and your bike! We like to see who we're being nice to at first! Seriously, glad you got your second girlfriend going good. GeorgeS is a wealth of information and can guide you through anything that can go wrong. You will find that that girl you're riding will bring you through the worst of times, even when she's not feeling good. A little TLC and a good hard ride every once in a while will keep her going good for a long time! Dan

Ebay Carb. Diaphragm Replacement!
Dano replied to skydoc_17's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
These are for a set of 4, probably the same as the ebay guy. I'll be in for a set if we can "get'er done" real quick, like while I have the money. If not within the next couple of weeks, I'll go ahead and get my own. Dan -
I think we DO have an act for the Rally! Better make your plans now, Curt! Be a nice vacation for you and Deb! It was great hearing that tune again, even better live! Dan

Excellent!

Hey Curt, good to see you on here again. Glad Don checked in with you. Great video, good music! Hope to see you on the road this year and ride with you and Deb. Take care of yourself and we'll see you this spring! Dan

Hey Al, welcome to the neighborhood! Enjoy the comraderie and the madness! Come out and meet a few of us this year and have some fun! Dan

I've got a Motion Pro-SynchPro I can bring with me and help on carb synch's, but I'd really like to get a carb-tune done on mine. I'm gonna rebuild them this year and it'll need to be done. Maybe we can get a line going just for that? Might speed things up a little. Oh yeah, about the first third of the day---All work and no Play makes Don have a dull day! Dan

I found in the "travel kit" that has been passed around, the most common pads needed were 270's and real close to that. Of course, they had already been used up, but if you are REALLY out of spec, should be no problem. It seems that most of my factory pads were in the 280 range, and I needed to "loosen" it up a bit, so I needed the thinner shims. But they're really good to have as poker chips! Dan

Around here we have a fast steed, the 1984 Yamaha Venture Maroon 1st gen, a 2002 Yamaha Big Bear 400 4x4 quad with snow blade and winch, a vintage (old) 1977 Yamaha IT400 dirt bike and my wife has a Honda Elite scooter. What kind of bicycle do you have, Celdawn? Can you have mom take a pic and post it here for us? Dan

Oops, forgot to say, needs to be intalled vertically, I believe, for it to work right.

Had one on a 383 back in the late 70's, that old cuss wouldn't start without it. Great for keeping the block warm, not sure if the oil sitting in the pan so low will be warm tho. That's my only thought. Good luck, Jeff. Let us know how it works. Dan

Now,,, the rest of the story. I was puttering around in the garage one Saturday in October of '06, when my brother from Columbus, OH calls to chat. He told me, "by the way, this classic bike dealer down the street from me has a touring bike he's trying to get rid of". I told him to send me some pics and a phone #, contacted the guy and went over the next weekend with a trailer and 600 bucks. Never heard of a Venture before (84 Standard maroon), looked at it, started it up, rode around the lot and put it on the trailer. Since then, I got introduced to this website by Millman37 in a bike store one day, the bike's brought me back from Cincinnati wounded (no stator, no 4th or 5th gear), I have totally torn her down to the ground and rebuilt her, including taking off the next day after finishing it up for last years MD. She's kinda like a second wife, really. Takes your money, needs care and attention, a little clean-up and "bling" every once in awhile. Oh, by the way, she don't mind getting rode hard and put away wet like a horse does! Actually, I think she enjoys it (the bike Squid, the bike)! I wouldn't trade it for anything! Dan

I would still start with the easiest stuff first, check battery and voltage output from the regulator/stator.

Spray the button with some CRC26 electrical contact cleaner (Lowes) and check your connections down at the horn itself. Reverse the wiring from one horn to the other to check the horns, or Ohm them out with a meter. OR, just get rid of them, go to Harbor Freight or Autozone and buy a Bad Boyz airhorn and REALLY let them know you're coming!

Here ya go Roadkill, a little preview. Sorry so bad, came from somebody elses camera!

'84 Front Wheel Bearings

I don't think so -
It warmed up today...and then it snowed money.

We had 3 highway workers that found a tire full of money, $130,000 worth, and they turned it into LEO. Drug dog took a hit on it, but they already knew what it was the way it was packed. A lot of people in a survey said they would have kept it, but these guys did the right thing. Who knows who would have come back for it? The state ended up giving them commendations and a thousand bucks each for being honest. Fits right in with your people out there, I'd say. Dan -
I too, shall switch from Cinemax back to HBO to watch this. My bro-in-law is getting ready to deploy for 6 weeks to "fetch" IEDs and other explosives in Afghanistan. He trains troops ready to deploy at Camp Atterbury, and the Army figures a little "hands-on" for him will help keep our guys safer! Dan

I'd recommend the sealed Yamaha bearings from www.flatoutmotorcycles.com , best you can get. BTW, welcome back, been a long time since we've seen ya! Hope everything is going OK with you and yours. Dan -
Hey, we can only dream about 100 degree days up here, only 0d this morning! Dan
