Yep. But I would do the thrust washer replacement while you had it out. Unless your positive it's been done already. Ask more questions if ya need to. Dan

I had the shorties on mine when I got the bike, changed out to stock, I like the stock better, but if'n I had the money I would go with the Jardines. Dan

They got quieter the farther away you went! Whats with that?! Sounds good, tho. Dan

Prayers from us also.

Spent 2 hours last night here at the "electronics" work bench, cleaned all the corrosion off(totally removed the board from the housing-ouch!!), put it back in and re-soldered the connections. Some of the circuit board slots didn't fair very well from the removal, but I've managed to get them all soldered back together. Checked ohms from the terminals to points on the board and had an average of .1 Ohms across them. Now I'm looking for the terminal point diagram on here so I can check pin to pin resistance. If someone could help me finding that, I would appreciate it! Carbs later on today after some BBQ for lunch! Thanks again guys, Dan

Pinwall is 300 bucks with shipping. WIth no side jobs and 200 bucks a month extra gone for health insurance increase, guess I'll be doing whatever to bring this one back to standards. Dan

Chuck, got an idea for you. Try the Delrin solid motor mounts. Those old rubber mounts allow the engine to twist alot under torque. I put them in mine last year and it works wonders. I have a diagram on file if you want to turn a set out of aluminim. Dan

They get low prices by hiring cheap labor. I make more on side jobs from their "information" than I do home inspections! A rule in the trades is: Those who can, do. Those who can't, work at Menards! Not meant to imply anything against those here who may work in the "big box" retailers, just an opinion! Dan

I am aware of the difference. The 83 pulls its vacuum for the timing (pressure) sensor from above the butterfly in the carb, 84 to 89 uses the same TCI (vacuum pulled below the butterfly). I believe the 90-93 uses a different profile for timing. Thanks for the input, tho. Dan

This is the correct orientation, but spend three bucks and get the anti-wobble washer (say that 5 times quickly!) being offered in the classifieds. It takes the place of the rubber washer to eliminate the front end wobble that may occur. Dan

I just removed the carbs, airbox and battery box. Use a short stubby phillips (#2) screwdriver and you can remove the 2 screws that hold it in. Of course, they're upside down, but it can be done. Yours should be especially easy if you've got the fairing off, you can pull the whole bracket out that the TCI, coils and pressure sensor mounts to. 2 bolts on each side (#10mm) and pull the whole bracket. Good luck, Dan

That's what I was thinking, but knowing Bob from here, I bet the engine case is polished back in there, too! -
Finally pulled my TCI out for a "shake and bake", took the cover off and discovered a lot of battery acid fume corrosion from where the PO had taken the vent hose off the battery. That's the reason I had to repaint the frame last year when I did my second gear. Soooo, not sure if the board is affected way down deep in it's recesses, I'm looking for another TCI to fit an '84. Anybody got one they want to part with in good shape? I've got a few days as I also pulled the carbs to clean out. Appreciate your help, Dan

I noticed on your corporate website that "Penny Lane" is one of your solicitors! Did her parents really like her that much?! LOL Dan

I continually watch how much time my son spends playing Call of Duty online with his friends. We make sure we can hear the content of the talk going on because we've all heard about what can go on there. He's pretty level-headed (for a 16 yr old, anyway) and knows that we don't accept any behaviour whether here or elsewhere that is deemed excessive or violent. The hammer HAS gone down a couple of times for that type of behaviour.

Thanks, Rocket!

Hey Bob, when can I send mine to ya! That thing looks too purty to tuck clear back in that motor where it'll never be seen! Great job! Dan -
Here in Indiana we know it could possibly snow any day until high school state basketball finals are over! The rest of the nation should take heed! LOL Dan

Mines an 84 Standard with 64,000 miles on the odo. Rebuilt 2nd gear (undercut the gears, new thrust washer and clips), repainted frame, all the rear swingarm upgrades (Sleeves, grease joints, etc.), installed radio, gonna do CB. These bikes will live forever and take anything you throw at it! There's nothing better than an open stretch of road, no traffic, open fields to each side to watch for the critters..... Stop, enjoy the scenery for just a moment, shift into first, grab a hand full of throttle and let the Space Shuttle take off! Red line up through 3rd will get you to triple digits within a few seconds, it's up to you after that! Enjoy! Dan

Plenty of time in the warm garage this year, not on the bike (yet) but on the 79 Camaro I bought for my sons first car. Now I get to teach him how to replace a motor....... Spun the bearing on #8 connecting rod...... Thats what memories are made of. And a curiosity (for him) for mechanical things and how they work. Learned that from my dad when I was young, just trying to pay it forward. Dan

I would have to believe that Lutz would have been one of them to take this kid out......... Also, I don't believe he has any children, at least that we've talked about. dAN

Had my next door neighbor synch my carbs before I left for MD last year, he's been working on bikes for years, ASE and all that stuff......... Had Muffinman take my bike for a 1/2 mile run down the street at Dons while we were there, his report: Carbs 180d out of synch and bleed the brakes again! Thats when I ordered my own carbtune.......... Another story- had just replaced the calipers, pads and rotors on the front of the Durango, wife still complaining about a small squeal at stops. Had her go to CarX. The report: Needs new rotors, calipers and pads! Another reason I do my own work.......

Might want to pull the TCI out, bake it at 125d for an hour, open it up and resolder the connections in there, could have a cold solder joint. Bike is definately missing, sounds like multiple conditions to cause this. Best do everything mentioned above...... Sorry about all the work, Dan PS, you'll be able to pull a wheelie once you get her going good!

Did I make a BAD mistake?
Dano replied to big mike's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yeah, not too bad for a 25 year old bike, huh! Even made a calendar last year! Matter of fact, there's a pic of a 1st gen doing a gnarly burnout in there, too. Hmmmm, didn't see one of a 2nd gen doing that, though! (They look more like this!) LOL Dan
