  1. Now you know why I moved to Indy from Columbus back in 1980! Dan
  2. Remember the wheels turn slowly, but that's for a reason. Justice will be served in due time. He has probably already seen his last bit of free sunshine. Always behind you backing you up, Dan & Rose
  3. One more item to add to the list when I put a trailer on the bike. Good post. Dan
  4. Came home at noon to grab the bike to ride up to Windfall, In. (about 30 miles north of Noblesville on 213). Nice ride up, got into the rain when I got back down to Noblesville, soaked by the time I got home. Great ride, tho!
  5. I usually go up to 36 In Pendleton, In. and go across, we could hookup there if you come that way. Ususlly get up there about noon on Friday. You could come over Thursday and spend the night if you want to. Dan
  6. There are 2 light indicators, the big one for the headlight, the little one for the other lights. The LED brake light may be causing it, not enuff load on the circuit for the monitor. Put the regular bulb back in and see if that cures it. Dan
  7. Yes, that's the correct color wire. It should have the female half of the connector on the end. Just plug in your lead and you should be good to go! Dan
  8. Today was not meant to be! Glad your angels were with you! Glad Tom is alright, too bad the bikes totalled, but it saved his life! Wonder what happened with the tire?
  9. I can see the metalflake in the gas tank shot right by the suns reflection. Seems like all your hard work and worrying about the color turned out in your favor. Looks great! For a second gen! You knew I had to throw that in, right?! Dan
  10. Seems to be quite an occurance around here lately!
  11. Did you get the notches in the plates lined up properly with the basket? Did you line up the dimple in the clutch cover with the dimple on the basket? Do not despair, grasshopper, this happens quite frequently, do not get your panties (or thong!) in an uproar. Most likely just a procedure gone awry. There will be more answers as more get home and jump online! Dan Dang, Squeeze types faster than me!
  12. If you have a "wet" type battery, I would definately get the sensor in there. You don't want the battery running dry on you! I wouldn't think that the hole would have to be much bigger to fit it. It must be a tight fit. Start small and work your way up, make sure you don't penetrate too far! Also, make sure that your vent hose is hooked up to the battery! Pics below show what happens when it's not! Dan
  13. I figured Beer and Big Tom were getting ready to start seeing each other in a therapy group!:crackup:
  14. Have you found the relationship of the shim to the side of the ellipse to be parrallel? And will the feeler guage slide all the way thru? Just curious so I can do it right the next time, or correct what I did wrong the last time! Dan- who can be stoopid sometimes!
  15. We remove these "air-guides" as well as the "YICS" system at will. The Yics system is the big black tank that goes over top of the front valve cover. They tend to develop leaks and will cause vacuum leaks in the intake system. Remove the tank and hoses and cap off the nipples on the intakes with rubber caps, using the spring clips from the Yics hoses. Good luck, Dan
  16. So, for a guy like me to understand, it is the "way of the manual" to measure the tolerance on the "side" of the ellipse, as it's closer to correct tolerance than the "bottom" of the lobe? That would mean that you have to have the mark on the flywheel EXACTLY aligned with the timing mark to make sure you were at the correct angle of the cam lobe to make this measurement. If you were off even a touch, wouldn't this throw your measurement off by a thousandths or so? Is that why they give you latitude on the "between here and there" on the allowed tolerances? So you are not worried about getting the feeler guages all the way through? Just until you hit the lobe if it is angled slightly downward? Or should it be parrallel to the shim? The other question here, is there timing marks for #3 and #4? I've honestly never paid attention. Or do you have to "figure out" the degrees of rotation starting after TDC at #1? The book shows to do #1, then 3,4 and #2 last. Probably come up with some more questions after this! Thanks Lutz and Earl for a long-time coming discussion on this. I will definately be redoing mine in the future, as I probably screwed it up, and I'm glad I didn't write it up yet!
  17. I always pull my scoot up to the light over the left hand rear and front corner of the sensor. Also try to "run the line" along that side. These sensors do not send out a constant signal, they actually sweep each detector in pulses, so if you miss the sweep, you could be sitting! Works 95% of the time. Dan
  18. Need to check your voltage at 2500 rpm, that's when these stators start working at full capacity. Check battery after running bike for about a half-hour (Yes ma'am, I have to take a ride to test my charging system). Then check 24 hrs later and see if there's a difference. You also might want to spray some contact cleaner in the start switch to clean the contacts. Dan
  19. Instead of the 4 lane state roads, that southwestern corner of the state is RIPE with rolling hills and beautiful two lane state roads. Look at the map again and follow Rt. 50 up from just north of Evansville up to Rt.37. Heck, you might just want to take 2 days to ride in that area! Anytime I go down there I go that way, cage or bike! Dan
  20. I'll have to see if they have the combines out around here yet. Kinda early in the season, ya know! Dan
  21. Flatout is like any other dealer, closed on Sundays and Mondays. Thru the link you can go to parts finder, click thru the pull-down menus to get to your year and make. You'll find yours under XVZ1300. Locate your parts diagram and click on the parts or just surf thru the price list to see what your cost will be. If you order, put a note in the comments section that you're with VR. Glad I could kick your brain into gear for the grommets! I need that occasionally, too (Alright Squid!). Dan
  22. So it's possible when I checked mine on the bench last year that it didn't get done correctly then? I ass-umed lobes 180d up would be sufficient, but it looks like with Squids understanding that the tolerances would read a heck of a lot tighter with the lobes "sweeping" into play. Wonder why they (Yamaha) couldn't have just set it up for lobes to be 180d up for the reading? I will try to ask local dude tomorrow who may have some understanding of this. Where you at trying it this way, Brad? Dan He's gone now!!
  23. Any good electronics store (not neccessarily Radio Shack) should have different size grommets up to 1" or so. Look in the phone book under Electronics-Wholesale (or industrial) to find them. Dan
  24. I know the MK1s do not lube the rear splines from the rear housing, the later ones do. Don't know about the vmax to venture swap tho. You trying to create more work for yourself there, Dan?
  25. Thanks Freebird. Printed out the diagram for my folder and am getting ready to check it to make sure my solder connections are good. Dan
