  1. I'm another Sylvania Ultrastar believer. Haven't done this to my "new to me" Yamaha, but my last bike I used the Ultrastars. And when I had to replace one and the store didn't have one, I went with a Silverstar. Not quite as good, but still much better than stock. I haven't tried a PIAA but I hear they are good. I'll stick with the good Sylvanias, since I know they work. They put out a very "white" light, which I like.
  2. Material has very little to do with noise. It is determined a lot more by design, shape, shields, vents, etc. I have two HJC helmets, and use both of them. They are both noisy. The IS-33 is 3/4, a decent helmet, and is noisy. The modular (can't remember the model) is even noisier, but my "bad weather" helmet. My Licks 3/4, is super quiet. But not because of material, but it is a no frills light weight helmet with no vents.
  3. that sounds cool, do you have a photo? Thanks to all for the suggestions!
  4. Do you have a photo of the covers installed on your bike? Which filter did you go with ?
  5. I made a bracket and mounted my Stebel on the right side where the stock chrome horn was. It looks like it was born that way. When I get time, I'll add a relay and rewire it, I think you get more power to the horn that way and don't load down your horn switch. If I am mistaking, let me know. Thanks, Dan
  6. Thanks to everyone, lots of good advice here. GaWildKat, thanks for the invite. Right now, work has me very busy. I usually spend my weekends getting caught up on chores. (I typically put on over 600 miles a week on the bike for commute to work, and usually don't "need" a weekend ride.) I would like to meet ya'll though, and maybe we can meet in Gray for some BBQ sometime. Dan
  7. Thanks everyone, for the warm welcome and advice. You have me pointed in the right direction. And for the mandatory pic, here it is. Thanks, Dan http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j117/OconeeDan/DSCN9208.jpg
  8. Du-Ron, I used the standard white filter with blue lettering. Like I said, that with Rotella T6, the old bike never complained. Over 118,000 miles, and the bike ran like the day I bought it at 17,000 miles. No kidding. You could not tell any difference in performance or sound. So...that combo worked for that bike. Dan
  9. We'll agree with each other on the issue of people texting while driving, and doing other stupid things that take their eyes off the road. Dan
  10. This is actually one of my peeves. I can't tell you how many times I see someone pass me, and they are looking at their phone, and not the road. I used to beep my horns, but later realized I'm better off just staying away from them. However, it doesn't bother me to see someone talking "to themself" with a hands free phone. I ride an hour and 10 minutes from work. Each way, every day. I have logged over 100,000 miles in less than 4 years. Numerous times, I would like to take an incoming call. Since I can't, I usually spend quite a while after I am home, returning the calls. I have been listening to "pipes only" for years. Now I have a quieter bike, I'd like to be able to push a button and talk. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a phone junkie. I don't even own a smart phone. But I'm more than capable of talking while riding....hands free. Thanks, Dan

  12. My last bike that I sold recently (running great), I put over 100,000 miles on it using only Purolator 14610 and Rotella T6. I am planning to use the same on this 07 RSTD. You are showing the 14612 filter, is that the short version of the 14610? It looks like the longer one will fit on this RSTD, correct? Longer, equals more surface area. Thanks, Dan
  13. I'm new here, with new to me 07 RSTD. The bike has stock pipes, and is pretty quiet. I'm interested in something that allows me to take a phone call, either using blue tooth or through speakers. I also use 3 different helmets, depending on weather. So...I hate to buy 3 different head sets. Moving them around is not really convenient, since I may switch helmets at a glance of the forecast. Being able to play tunes would be nice too. What do you suggest? Thanks, Dan
  14. Hello, I'm new here, and just bought a "new to me" 07 RSTD. I live in GA, where I ride year around. I also have a long commute to work, so I rack up miles pretty quick. The lower fairing is new to me, the heat is nice in cold weather. But today, over 70 degrees, I can really feel the heat on my feet. I am guessing that in hot weather, it's gonna get hot. So...how do most of you deal with this? It looks like the lowers need to stay there, as they are not just for blocking wind. Along the same lines, I think I'm going to cut the windshield to nose height (when the weather warms up), and buy a bat wing for next Winter so it'll cover my hands. My old bike (00 Honda ACE Tourer), I'd ride it down to around 25 or so. I made hand guards, and have heated gloves. Thank you in advance. Dan
  15. Gorski, I'm new here. But have my CC figured out...press set button, hold it a second, when the cruise control light comes on, just let the button go. When resuming, you have to be fairly close to the initial setting for it to "latch" on.
