I'ld be almost willing to bet that you didnt even come close to going 120 MPH on the tail of the Dragon.... Nope, not 120 on the dragon, but on the interstate coming across Tennessee.

Kinda tough to lane-share or split lanes when your bike is almost as wide as some cars nowadays!!!!

Frame Cracked Under Seat
flb_78 replied to DMooch's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I also have a 99, mine has 75K on it and I beat on it like a red-headed step child. Usually, the front tire is in the air a couple times a day. I'm going to have to take a closer look-see now. -
1 month ago and still no plans. I'll be in OKC tomorrow morning. Well, I guess that's not entirely true, I have met up with Jerry W. and TxToSturgis in the last month.

Frame Cracked Under Seat

Sorry Flugur, but I disagree. Unless the bike was used for motocross, there should be no excuse for a cracked frame. If it truely is cracked, then Yamaha should cover this even though the bike is out of warranty. This is a safety issue. Shocks wear out, brakes wear out, final drives wear out. Frames should not wear out in less then 10 years. -
Harbor Freight or Northern Tool 150 dollar trailer frame. Aluminum pickup boxes. 99 on up each. I have a 12 inch wheeled Harbor Freight trailer with a Sears Turtleback on top of it. It's OK, I wish I would have used the pickup boxes now though. I pulled it behind my Roadstar up to 120mph and pulled it on the Dragon's Tail. Never noticed it too much back there. Only time it troubled me was when I would hit a turn to hot and it would try and push the rear of the bike over.

Legal lane splitting is safe. Well, as safe as riding a motorcycle can be. What most call lane splitting is not legal and not safe. Lane splitting does not happen in fast moving traffic with cars turning in and out of traffic. Lane splitting is in slow or stopped traffic with no turn offs.

Nope, was not riding the bike at the time. It was parked inside the shop, out of the hail at the time. I did have to roll the bike a couple feet to use the overhead lift to pick the rear of the bike up. The bike was on the ground, the tire was folded. It did the same thing when I had a flat on my Metzler. Bike was on the ground with it as well. Wizard, your buddy must of had a low profile tire on the bike. There would be no way you could ride a RSV with a flat tire, car tire or not. There's just too much sidewall. That's one reason I need to try out the 175/65R15. Less sidewall profile and wider tire.

Frame Cracked Under Seat

Can you get any actual pics of the damaged area? -
If he was lane-splitting in moving traffic, then he was in the wrong, not the cager. Sounds like traffic was moving along just fine, even if it wasn't, legally, when you split, you're only supposed to go 10-15 mph faster then traffic. Lane-splitting, when done legally, is safer for motorcyclist then sitting in traffic. Too bad for the rider. Too bad for the cager who now, under no fault of their own, now has to go through the entire insurance hassle.

If I can find it, I read an article that concluded that cheaper helmets were actually better in a crash then the high tech expensive helmets. I have found many references to it, but I can't find the exact article. I found it republished on another site. Do a Google search for " 'blowing the lid off' helmet " http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1481582/posts

Ive helped 3 motorcyclists that I can remember and have stopped for a couple others that either declined my help or were in not need of help. 1st guy ran out of gas. I pulled off my fuel line and found a beer bottle in the ditch. Gave him a couple bottles of gas to get him to a station. Followed him to the station to make sure he made it. 2nd guy I was following through Missouri. I wasn't riding with him but he got on the interstate in front of me. Followed him for about 15 miles, he started slowing down and then went onto the shoulder. I heard his bike and stopped behind him to check on him. new rider, new bike, didn't understand how his fuel valve worked. Showed him how it worked and got him going again. 3rd fella how a flat tire and was trying to air it up at a gas station. The connector was goobered up and wouldn't fit on his stem after he spent 75 cents for air. Loaned him my compressor and pumped it back up.

Man, that's some crap luck. Did the shipper lose the wheel or the chromer? Did you not have it insured? BTW, the RSTD also uses the same wheels as the Venture, so eBay is a good place to start. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-Royal-Star-XVZ13-FRONT-WHEEL-RIM-TIRE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247QQcategoryZ10066QQihZ003QQitemZ130198422445QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-Royal-Star-FRONT-WHEEL-RIM-TIRE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247QQcategoryZ10066QQihZ009QQitemZ190155737239QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V

Help!!!!!- rear rotor bolt removal
flb_78 replied to OutKast's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
you're going to need a torch and an impact. They are put in that way from the factory, with loctite as well. I removed one once and decided that it was a bad idea and put it back. -
You do not put the retaining ring back, you throw it away along with the half disc. Most of the time, the fiber discs are not worn very much in our clutches. The reason our clutches slip is because the spring has become weakened through usage. So, YES, you need to replace the clutch spring. Some have even replaced ONLY the clutch spring to have the clutch work like new again.

Well hurry up and get yourself a round tuit... http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7&products_id=20

No need for the steel plates. Go with the Yamaha factory fiber discs. Have you read Tartan Terror's article about upgrading your clutch? http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10518&highlight=clutch+upgrade As for the clutch spring, I would go with Barnett if you plan on keeping the bike for awhile, if you don't plan on having the bike for more than 30,000 more miles, Factory spring will be OK. You can also contact the fine folks at http://www.pcwracing.net/featured.htm and they'll sell ya the a stiffer spring. They'll also sell ya the fiber discs with an extra disc and the upgraded spring in one nifty little package so you're now ordering from 2 different places.

put the valve stem at the bottom so that it faces up and the ride-on is in the bottom of the tire and all should be good... BTW, I run only 78% nitrogen in my tires.
