We really need to ride together again now that the weather is cooperating and you'll be able to see how well the car tire does work with your own 2 eyes and then give an unbiased opinion on it after seeing the performance.

I should post though that I too have replaced my final drive unit, but I did it because it was leaking oil after 70,000 miles. I found a final drive unit on eBay for 55 bux shipped to my front door off an 06 unit with only 12,000 miles on it, otherwise, I would have just replaced the seals, but the "new to me" unit was cheaper in the long run. Plus now, I have an extra final drive laying around in case I decide to pony up the cash for the V-max rear end swap.

I did and most who responded say that they fixed the squeak and creak by greasing the hub pins. Brake Pad was the only other one besides Ediddy who had the rear end changed, even then, they didn't properly lubricate it after they replaced it.

Furious with yamha, may never buy one again

Have they replaced the entire rearend unit? Housing and all? or do they keep replacing the ring and pinion? I know that we had a rash of rearends on some loaders where the housings were not machined correctly and it was causing the ring and pinions to eat each other up. -
I know of only 1 RSV with rear end problems that are more then the normal squeak and creak caused by the lack of lubrication on the hub pins.

I would be for the new section, but it won't do any good because unless one of us "darksiders" could moderate it, it will be filled with posts from folks saying it's dangerous and stupid, insurance won't cover you, tire manufacturers won't support you and all the same crap that is spewed in this thread and no one will delete the posts to find the actual "tech" content.

I have not been able to locate one that will fit. The 16 inch rim is just too skinny.

I said nothing about insurance in my post. I said that YOU were going to post up all the stories about people who have wrecked because of their car tire because YOU were sure there were stories all over the internet about how it does not work. Hurry up and buy your Harley and get off this board.

It's worked for 20+ years now!!

We've been above 100 degrees for the last 3 days with 30-40 mph winds with gusts above 60mph. We've had 2 wildfires across the highway from work this week already.

no yet, but Tartan was going to check into this over 2 months ago and post all the stories of motorcycles that have wrecked because of it. He was going to do this because he said that we who are running a tire are not posting those stories, but this is coming from a guy who says Harleys handle better. Still waiting. So was it the switch and the battery, or just the battery? BTW, glad you made it, I was beginning to wonder.

It couldn't be possible that with the new pipes that you're riding the bike a little harder to hear the pipes sing, could it? BTW, I'm lucky if I get over 30mpg.

V-star 1300 is an excellent choice. Dealer in Effingham loves his personal one. He now only uses his Venture for touring.

Hannibal, eh? How about some liver and fava beans with a nice chianti?

check your the pipes coming off the heads. It sounds like your missing on 1 cylinder. DO NOT TOUCH THE PIPE!!! just put your hand close to it to feel the heat. Better yet, use a non-contact thermometer. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=93983 http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/photos/93900-93999/93983.gif

I wouldn't have even bothered either one of those snakes. I like snakes. I used to have a pet rattler. The more snakes, the less varmints around.

any idea where the leak is? If its in the tire, I'd repair the tire. It could just be as simple as a new valve stem or new valve core. In a pinch, I'd use Slime over Fix-a-flat, but either one will only seal in the tread area.

Most likely it is tire wear on the edge of the front tire. Putting air in the front forks makes them ride a little bit harder so you're feeling some different things. Check your front tire closely and I'll bet you'll find the edges just off center to be feathered.
