I wouldn't worry about size. I'd be more worried about weight. I think your Valk could pull quite a bit of weight. Stopping that same weight could be a problem. Im assuming that you're not going to driving cross country to mow grass.

RSTD Slip-On Pipes
flb_78 replied to RSTAR08's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
That carb kit is probably for the older Royal Stars, with the 28mm carbs instead of the newer 32mm carbs that your bike has on it. The carbs come out of the factory no where near where the floats are supposed to be set. With the factory pipes, the backfires were muffled. You do not need to rejet the carbs. Plugging or bypassing the AIS does not cure the problem, it just covers up the symptoms. -
Smoke dope and stare at the stars. Shoot jack rabbits. Get drunk.

Honestly, I would send the claim to the trucking company. Most will pay out of pocket just to not have an accident on their history. I had a trucker back into my pickup and pushed the bedside in. I sent the estimates to the company and they cut me a check for $1700.

The truck's insurance should pay and then go after the tire manufacturer or installer. Most likely they just installed brand new retreaded tires, not brand new tires and the retread came apart. Doesn't matter, it still came off the truck. Their problem. BTW, how's your neck, it looks a little sore or maybe your upper back/shoulder muscles are hurting now from having to keep the bike steady.

Yup, I have all the security settings set to private on mine. I also have all 3rd party platforms blocked and I don't play games.

Replacing front pads on a 97 RSTD
flb_78 replied to jkeyes1's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Why would you open the bleeders to just change pads? Remove the 2 bolts that hold the caliper on the fork, remove the outer pad, use a c-clamp to push the piston back into the caliper, remove the inner pad, install new pads, reinstall caliper on fork, Repeat on the over side, squeeze brake lever many times to push piston back out.- 2 replies

Hammer, big hammer and lots of glue. -
My mufflers had close to 100,000 on them when I changed them out for some newer stock ones. I changed them out because I had drug holes in the bottom of them from scraping around turns.

yup, the Texas Panhandle winds and elevation kill these carb'd engines.

He lives near Oklahoma City. It gets plenty cold there and they may not get the same amount of snow as Wisconsin, but they get plenty of ice.

You do not need to rejet for the pipes unless you replaced the entire exhaust system. The head pipes are the restrictive parts of the exhaust. You can not "burn out" the factory exhaust because it's all metal. There is no fiberglass packing on the inside. Your carbs are off. Way off. You need to find someone who knows what they're doing on the carbs for a V-4.

This year already? Just because he did a couple last year doesn't mean he's in top riding condition this year.

Im thinking that instead of busting out for a 1500 mile run, that instead, a couple of warm up 1000 mile runs should have been done.

Thinking of a K&N air filter but...

flb_78 replied to shikano53's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
K&N is nothing more than remarkable marketing. Paper filters filter better. In the RSV/RSTD, adding K&N's will do nothing for performance as the intake piping and the box on top of the carbs is the major restriction. http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/kn-vs-oem-filter.html http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/airfilter/airtest1.htm -
Hop on the bike and get lost for a month or two?
-
Your best bet is to buy a RSTD and add a batwing fairing and use quality components throughout.

I had a 130 on for a while. It was OK in town, but at highway speeds, it wanted to wanted to wander all over the lane. -
Excellent! I'd love to take a proper welding class. Are they teaching tig, mig and arc?

RSTD not running.. Please help!
flb_78 replied to Blooz's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Honestly, your best bet will be to get ahold of Goose and see what he'd charge ya to go through your carbs. You've got plugged up jets and if they're plugged up, Seafoam can't flow through to clean.
