No problem. I just realized that I didn't have my 99RSV listed in the thingamajigger under my avatar and didn't want to corn-fuse anyone.

My bike is a 2nd gen, not a 1st.... But to answer your question, I don't remember. I think I do because it's only 2 bolts to remove them and it's easier to me to fit my fat arms in there.

Yes, I have a centerstand. Once the bike is on the centerstand, remove both bags (I have the thumbnuts), remove the mufflers, pull the axle, remove the final drive and the wheel will come out.

2002 RSV cruise erroring out
flb_78 replied to revinger's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Ive had it happen before. I just shut the cruise off and turn it back on and it works fine after that. If it does it when you hit a bump, you may have a loose connection somewhere that is being jarred. You might want to check out all the cruise control connections and make sure they're all tight. -
I don't wave much anymore. There's so damn many people now who ride, I may never be able to touch the left side of the handlebars again if I waved at each and every one of them.

My fuel light and countdown has never worked in the 4 years Ive owned the bike that I know of and Ive put in over 5.5 gallons several times.
-
His ride was even featured in Cycle World last year. He rode 20 hours a day. Did you read his ride report? He had 2 people with him in a van that followed. They took care of the fueling, oil changes, tire changes, laundry and the doctoring that his wrist needed every day. When he would have to stop for fuel, he'd just park the bike at the pump and the man would jump out of the van and check the bike over and refuel it while the woman checked out the rider to make sure he was ok and hydrated and would work on his wrist.

You can also lay the bike over on the left side crash bars to get all the fuel in the tank over to the petcock in an emergency to get a few extra miles.

little red light on dash
flb_78 replied to Brake Pad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Most likely it was the oil level light. If you were hammering on it, the oil sloshed to the rear of the pan and the sensor may have been temporarily exposed causing the light to come on. There is nothing to worry about. -
OK, found it. WarChild rode 1500 miles a day for 7 days straight for a total of 10,636 miles and he did it with a broken wrist. http://www.cbrxx.com/events-rides-ride-reports/2818-bbg-hell-week-mission-complete.html

I can't find the thread now, but I remember reading an article about a fella who rode 1000 miles a day for 15 days straight a couple years ago.

Id skip the Roadstar and jump straight into a Stratoliner or Roadliner. I had a 03 Roadstar Silverado. I put 1100 miles on it in 24hrs a couple of times with no problems.

Many bikes come with Radials on them. Some even run radials and bias!! The Star Raider and the Harley Rocker both run a radial rear tire with a bias front tire.
-
The OEM Tires were Bias.
-
I didn't know that anyone made a radial that fit the back of the Venture/RSTD.

That's not very good at all. The Wix filters down to 21 microns. http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/PartDetail.asp?Part=51358

I pay $2.78 for a new filter. I don't think the hassle of having to clean a "permanent" filter is worth the savings. Plus, don't forget to figure in the costs and disposable of all those degreasers and solvents to clean it with.

What kind of bike? I just rebuilt the forks on my 99 Venture earlier this year. The hardest part was removing the fairing.

I bought one. I didn't like it. It now sits in the workshop somewhere.

I always wear my open face helmet. I cannot find a full face helmet that fits me, not even my 5xl Vega Altura. I also wear a Joe Rocket mesh jacket.

RainX can be applied to Clearview Shields. I don't know of anything except a standard plastic wax to shed off water. There's plenty of talk about using Pledge furniture polish to keep visors and shields clean.

Anyone on speaking terms with the powers that be?

Catch all the rain water you can and send it to the Texas Panhandle. -
Ive had it in there for about 10,000 miles give or take. I usually change the final drive oil every or every other engine oil change depending on my mood. 1qt of gear oil will do 8 oil changes in the final drive.

yup, Almost 1 cup.
