fuel pump replacement
Carbon_One replied to warriorhoneybee's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Check your local auto parts stores too. I'm sure you'll find a fuel pump that'll be within the range it should be. I'm looking online now as well. fuel pump replacement
Carbon_One replied to warriorhoneybee's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Check e-bay or other sources like Jegs. When I added an auxilary fuel tank to my trike I used one like this -- http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ELECTRIC-FUEL-PUMP-BRAND-NEW-UNIVERSAL-12vol-/380359436544?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item588f306900 or http://www.jegs.com/i/Mr.+Gasket/720/42S/10002/-1 So far 2 years of trouble free use. I would deffinately stick with a fuel pump of lower pressure under 4psi. Larry -
Now I know why it costs so much..
Carbon_One replied to 1BigDog's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
It's called super chrome. I have had pieces done up in it on other bikes. Looks pretty good but you can still tell it's not the real thing but at half the cost , well. Oh ya polishing those forks is a lotta work. Larry -
Happy B-Day buddy. Hope you had a very nice day today. larry

That bike sure is looking hurtfull now. Glad you found the cause and can now get it fixed up right. Thanks for sharing your story with us all. Larry PS: Don't forget to do that clutch up-grade when putting her back together either. -
Decided to Rest in the middle of an Intersection
Carbon_One replied to BradT's topic in Watering Hole
That stuff sure happns fast eh Brad? Glad to hear there's not too much damage to the bike and even less to you. I'm sure that with a few parts purchased you can make that bike look and ride as good as new again. If you saw mine after Joyce & I went down in Ga you'd of thought mine was totalled. Bikes get fixed much easier so Thank your Father in Heaven & his Angels for watching over you. Larry -

Can't remove inner front cowling screw
Carbon_One replied to Grisolm1's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That particular screw may be the one that screws into a rubber grommet type nut Tightening it swells the rubber thus holding it in place. Loosening can be a bear as it will turn unless there's some pressure on it o keep it from moving. OR it's one of those "C" clamp types and may be stripped. Larry -
What style Pilot jet?
Carbon_One replied to littlebitcrazy's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
OOPs my mistake in reading it all. Ok you need the N224.103 pilot jets. I did what you're planing on doing several years ago. Bumping all pilots & mains up 1 #. I found that bumping up pilots was very helpfull in low end & inital throttle response. As for the mains they were running to rich causing the spark plugs to turn black. Also at times under a load pulling a trailer I was getting black exhaust soot on the cooler. Once I changed back the mains to their orginal postions my spark plugs were once again a nice clean brown/tan on the tips. No more problems with exhaust soot either. I did leave the pilots bumped up one number. At the time I was using H-D mufflers but that was the only change from stock. I'm now back with shortened stock mufflers since converting to a trike. Good luck doing you mods and let us know what your results are. Larry- 5 replies

What style Pilot jet?
Carbon_One replied to littlebitcrazy's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Perhaps you overlooked it but the 1st link listing the Yamaha jet fitments does say main jets as being Mikuni N102/221. Mains are the small round head types. Using your 2nd link that would be the 4th set of mains down the page shown. I measured extra mains I have here at the house to also verify the size/type. Keep in mind that each cylinder has a different sized main. #1 & #3 being larger. Been a while since I've been into the carbs so don't remember the exact #'s used per cyclinder. Larry- 5 replies

Haven't looked much of late at new bikes but the wife says the same thing about the RSV's generous passenger room compared to other models. The last bike we sat on was a Can-Am. Nope don't even think of it she says. Larry

Ya think that's bad try a trike with an extra 4-500 lbs added on and then the bigger body catching all that wind. LOL Larry -
Home from trip with no OVERDRIVE
Carbon_One replied to vegastruckee's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Looking at the video now tells us that you do indeed have 2 problems going on here as Flying Fool & Gearhead state. The way the gear appears to be bumping back & forth looks like it's either not engaging the "gear dogs" or the shifting drum has a problem. In any case you'll be tearing down the trans and splitting the cases to fix it. Not sure without looking if the shift drum can be accessed without splitting the cases but someone else here should know that for ya. If it can be checked prior to splitting then that's good and may well save the day. If not it'll be rebuild time. Larry -
Home from trip with no OVERDRIVE
Carbon_One replied to vegastruckee's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yep gotta agree with Phertwo. Slippage in 4th under acceleration show that your clutch spring, discs and plates are suspect. And with no metals being picked up with the magnet shows that the trans is good IMO. Get ready to do a clutch job. It's not hard to do ( there's a tech post here on how to do it). Larry -

Carbon_One replied to vegastruckee's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I agree with some of the other guys here. Check the clutch 1st. You'll have to drop the oil to do that and at that point can readyly tell if you've got metal from the trans in the bottom of the pan or not. At 61k it'll be at that point in time the discs are starting to get worn a bit thus the slippage. Most clutches I've seen didn't need the metal discs replaced nor the friction ones. You'll need to measure them with a micrometer to be sure if they're within specs or not before ordering them, then get a PCW kit or the upgrade kit Sky_Doc 17 sells here on the site. Betting my you'll find the trans A-OK and the clutch to be the problem. Larry -
We have the leather/chrome Kruzzy Kaddy cup holders and love em. Mine mounts on the left handlebar. Joyce has her's mounted on the right side and securely attached to the arm rests I make. I have both of them locked down with a washer so they won't swivel and on the rear one I also added a stainless steel strip "L" shaped to provide additional support for the holder. Lost one once due to flexing and cracking around the attachment point. We have had the slim empty water bottles lift out and blow away but nothing else has gotten away. Larry

I have seen some car top carriers that were longer and shorter in height that might be better to use over a short/fat style. Going with a slimmer designed car topper would reduce potential wind drag. The one in your link may well fit those requirements as it doesn't provide the actual dimensions of the unit. Your idea does have some merit thou for light weight and easly grabbed gear such as rain gear or jackets, etc. Larry

Ah yes it's all those little details that add up making the final out the door pricing as Don has noted. Also did anyone notice that the Cross Roads was 1k higher then the Vision. As much as I want to see Yamaha's next generation of the Venture I also wonder how bad we'll be in sticker shock when they do. I do like the styling of the cross country except for that trunk. And they really should have a shaft driven & water cooled engine for a touring bike, V-Twin or not. Face it guys we do have about the best bike for the money on the market when considering all the stock features and the 5 year warranty even as dated as the 12 year old bike is. Larry

I didn't ask too many questions, she came into my lab the first day I was back from my England trip and I just listened... That's what good friends do and offer support as needed. Larry

And them Texans laugh at us about winter. Ya right. On a serious note there isn't many places in the country that weather is moderate year round. There's always something that make ya take notice like extreme heat or cold, hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, snow deep enough to bury you till spring, and the list goes on. Larry

Yep that alone is what is so fascinating about riding that part of the country. A good days ride in a nice sized loop will get you all of that easily. We really enjoyed our day ride will Gary (99 Silver) & Leslie thru Custer State Park, Crazy Horse monument, & Mt Rushmore. Larry
