Premeaux Batwing Fairing
Carbon_One replied to bobbyduck's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
All good points Bobby and nothing wrong with that either. I'd probably do the same thing if I was in your shoes. Ok yesterday I attended the International bike show and saw a Hoppe fairing mounted on a Nomad. It looked real sharp too. As noted with the other brands of after market fairings there may be interferance with the radio compartment due to the TD's instrument cluster. As far as mounting one up I see no real problems there either. Looks like a fairly straight forward mounting to me. Good luck in your quest for a decent fairing there and let everyone know if you do find something that will workout for ya. I'm sure you're not the only TD owner who would want one. Larry BTW I've had experince mounting Harley fairings to Suzuki bikes . Check my photos -

And if you don't want the trunk , then take it off. Salty and one other member have done just that too. Larry -
RSV lift frame adapters - improved model
Carbon_One replied to Carbon_One's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hi there everyone. I've added a couple of options for my Freestanding lift adapters. For those of you who have dirt, gravel, or blacktop driveways I'm offering 3" square pads to the legs if you want them. Or even if you would prefer the leg bottoms be covered. Also for those of you who have already ordered one of my Freestanding units I have as an accessory a slip on foot with 3" square pad. Check back on my 1st post here for further details or go to the VR Classified section of the 2nd gen parts & accessories. Thanks to everyone who's ordered an adapter regardless of style. Larry -
RSV lift frame adapters - improved model
Carbon_One replied to Carbon_One's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sure thing Steve or I'll bring one along if I'm heading your way. I might be going to Big Petes place in Feburary and could bring one then as I'll be in the cage I'm sure. I'll be in contact later to find out which model you want. Larry -
RSV lift frame adapters - improved model
Carbon_One replied to Carbon_One's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Not that I know of SilvrT. I really need to borrow someones 1st gen to see what I'd have to do to make a decent adapter for them. I looked at DenDens once and several others at meets but other than doing an eyeball look at them don't really know what needs to be done there. One of the problems is the centerstand being in the way. Looks to me like you'd have to take it off if using it. That's less than a 5 min job thou or there may be a way to work around that. Volunteers / Guinea pigs here anyone? Larry -
I have a oil pressure gauge on my bike and like Muffinman says you'll be sorely disappointed in reading it. Especially after the bike get warmed up good and idling. Even on a cold engine the pressure only goes to about 40psi and that don't stay there very long either. On the freeway it can be reading 15-20 psi and then drop to 5. Scares the crap out of ya too but I guess these engines get enough oil as there doesn't seem to be any problems with longetivately. I'm seriously thinking of taking the gauge off as it seems pointless anyhow. Larry

RSV Electrical Capacity Info
Carbon_One replied to V7Goose's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Goose whether you consider this info unscientific or not, it IS good info none the less. My 05 has mostly a stock configuration as yours is too. I'd guess most of us here are running their bikes pretty much stock as well. I do have a bunch of extra lights on the back of mine but like you am running leds for all of them & stock passing bulbs up front. While I don't have an ammeter mounted my voltage gauge has given me similar results as you have stated. Nor do I have any heated equipment to add to the electrical load. But those passing lamps will draw a batteries voltage down while idling at a light with say the brake lights on. Don't know if it matches your obversations on not as I never tried to memorize the numbers as you have done. All the same you have a good & worthy post here. Now does anyone know if there's an alternative method to boost the bikes electrical output? Maybe a different stator? Larry -
To answer some of you who've given me great moral support here I wish to thank you. Whether I have possible recourse thru applying for a provisional patent right or not remains to be seen. As Al noted it may be to little too late once the door has been opened. Not to mention what it may cost me in the long run. I have made some contacts and am currently waiting for responses from them. Only time & money will tell where this takes me. It never has been my intention here to corner the market so to speak on these adapters. My only thought was helping out the brothers here with a product that made using the Ventures easier in our life. That is why I first posted up my drawing along with dimensions last year sometime. It was before the sites crash and can't remember exactly when I posted that info. Once I lost my job and without any on the horizon I decided to use my talents to make them and offer them to our members here who don't have the knowledge or skills to build their own. Thus I got into selling them. Over time I also listed my adapter for sell at the Delphi fourms Royal Star Venture & Tour Deluxe site. When someone else had decided to capitalize on my design I have no idea. Did he STEAL from me? Kinda hard to say since I did place my drawing out for public viewing. Was it ethical? Again that's a judgement call. It does upset me knowing that there was no respect given me, but that doesn't seem to matter one bit for a lot of people in today's world. As I've said many times I do Thank everyone one for their support in both buying an adapter from me & for moral support. I like to think of us as family here and I do believe that is true as I've seen many wonderfull examples of that since I came to this site in June of 05. I look forward to continue serving our member's here with whatever I can do to make this site as great as it already is. Thanks, Larry

Tommy I hate to say it but the Gen 1 bikes have their exhaust directly under the frame so my lift won't work on them. Not sure here but I think all 1st gen people just lift their bikes directly up under the exhausts. Then there's that center stand to get around too. Would a 1st genner please step in and correct me if I'm wrong. Larry

Thanks for the heads up Beer30. I think it's been less than a year since I first made the standard model. I didn't go public selling any until Sept of this year so you may well be right about me having some recourse here. Defineately the freestanding version was brought out withing the last month or two. I had my drawing on the site here as well as Bill04's version prior the the sites crash. In fact Bill added legs to my version of adapter before I offered any to sell. So not a totaly original idea there. I will do some checking on this avenue that you've brought up and I thank you for bringing it to my attention. Larry

Monsta to answer your question about the bike being level when using the adapter. YES. But the floor has to be level as well as is in most cases I would think. So if you jack up the bike with the adapter on, regardless how much, it'll be as level as your floor is. I had thought of getting a centerstand for my bike once just to be able to check oil levels quicker. But since having an adapter I really feel no need for one now. Sure I bet I could use one on say a trip. Larry

Well guys I guess it had to happen sooner or later when you have a product as good as mine is. No this seller isn't me in disguise. This seller has copied my idea to the "T" it appears. So he is either a member here or someone from the Delphi fourm Royal Star Venture & Tour Deluxe who has taken my design and is now making and selling them on E-Bay. As to this being 'half the price' that is debateable. My prices including shipping and pay pal fees if used. So that being said the guy is undercutting me by $5. or less as it costs me about $3 in fees at Pay Pal with shipping charges varying dependant on the shipped distance from Michigan. As noted I have added the freestanding version as requested by several members. Wonder how long the copy cat will take to latch onto that one too? Oh well I have no patient rights on it so that being said I'm out of luck if someone copies my ideas. For those who have purchased my adapter to date I thank each and every one of you. To those who are considering buying one I hope you will consider buying from me as a fellow member here. I have made a couple changes in how I'm currently building mine from the previous ones sold. One was to reduce weight to make them easier to put on & off and at the same time hold costs down for raw materials and shipping. Nothing lost in the strength or quality of my adapters between the newer ones and the early ones. Other changes I'm making I will keep to myself for now. One other thing I'll mention before closing on this subject is that I have told Don before that I will be donating an adapter to be given away. I'm going to make that one as a special edition model. It will probably be given out at the International Rally this next July. Thanks for all the support from you guys. Larry

That's cool Monsta. Now where was Mr Photo 01 when I needed a tip like that? Could have saved some big bucks. Larry -
Cheap lights + waste not, want not...
Carbon_One replied to Monsta's topic in Poor Man Tips and Fixes
Monsta that's pretty much what I did to my bike as well. Actually I still used the marker on the sides and picked up a second set and mounted them on my top rail in back of the bags. I used the led lights that fit the Wings. JC Whitney sells em. Exspensive buggers thou. I also drilled a hole in the rails, running wire thru them and out up front exiting near the fender. Did the electrical hook ups under the seat. I've got some pics here on the site in one of the rear light posts. Also have a Show Chrome License with red led as a running light and additional turn lights on it, the oem spolier light bar as running/brake light, an a red lead strip light under the trunk for an additional 3rd brake light. I wanted to be seen as well. Oh and added the yellow led lights to the front fork reflectors too. Larry -
Which hwy pegs fit '01 Tour Deluxe?
Carbon_One replied to a topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I've got the Kury Offsets with the Pilot Pegs on my RSV. I think those are 1 " as well. As to the bars flexing. Yes they did, but no more. I've found a solution for that problem. Here's what I did. I bought a pair of chrome 3 piece clamps in 1" from a local bike shop, then took a piece of 10 gauge (aprx 1/8") stainless steel cut to the width of the clamps and run it to the bottom of the floorboard brackets. Drilled a hole through the bracket and attached the end of the stainless strip. Anyhow my footrests and bars are rock solid now. I also did this mod for Denden here on the site. I should have a post here on that topic & pics unless it was lost in the sites crash. I'll check later and if it's gone will do another writ up on it. Larry -
What size kits are you guys buying? Small, standard, master? I know it depends on the amount of work one has to do but I'm thinking of getting a kit to have 'on hand' for those smaller emergencies. Larry
-
Beer that was me who was talking with you about the bags. Although I have a BestEm bag I might well be interested in getting one of yours when you finalize the bag. You do have some great ideas there with your construction method. I'll be keeping an eye open on this thread (or new one) for when you do get something made up. Larry
-
I agree there that I may have had second thoughts of getting mine had I also known of this problem. I have used it without any bungies as well and just kept an eye on it . Even then I had to keep readusting the velcro straps. That's when I decided to add the net and on later uses I added the webbed straps. It's good now but shouldn't have been required I think. Personally I think that the bag is made for something else and the company advertises it to fit the Venture's rack because they figure it's close enough. Larry
-
Robert, I've got the same one and like you was concerned about losing the bag while traveling. I used some bungie cords to secure it the first couple of times I had it on. Since then I've made up a set of web straps and quick disconnect buckles and that is so much better. I run one strap length wise and two near the ends around the bag. I also weave the web straps thru the rack to help keep them in place. One end of the quick disconnects alow for cinching the webbing snug after hooking them together. There may be some better ways to secure the bag or whatever but this method does make for a very secure set up. I have also used the webbed bungie nets before too. Normaly for say a jacket on top of the bag. Larry

2003 Midnight V Cruise Control/ Holiday Help
Carbon_One replied to blackazz's topic in General Tech Talk
While the bike is still under warranty I'd suggest taking at look at what might be a very simple fix. Brake switch, vacuum hose , etc as other suggested. One reason for checking some of the things yourself is you'll become familiar with the various components of the bike so if for some reason you're away from your home area you might be able to fix something yourself. Nothing like having a problem and being at the mercy of a dealer while say on a trip. If you can't locate the problem then by all means let a qualified mechanic check it out. Larry -
Lowering the Front End
Carbon_One replied to Freebird's topic in Suspension, Tires, Handlebars, Etc.
Ok couple of questions here. Well a few more than a couple. First off is this mod a way of leveling the bike as opposed to raising the rear with the extended shock links? 2nd does this lower the saddle height for thos who are verticaly challenged? 3rd what about the ground clearances when cornering? 4th how was the road handling/steering afterward on lowering the front? Larry -
Here's a more recent post concerning my lift adapters - http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1509 I also have an ad in the classifieds section here giving more details, etc. about the two models I currently make. Here's the link to the ad. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=69&cat=7 Larry

Yep took a aluminum block , drilled, cut, & polished as you did. I can put my cover on with it as is but if needed to lower it it's just a simple matter of loosening one screw. Oh yea I'll second that comment on fine work, great ideas, & craftmanship. Larry

Nice and it's almost exactly like the one I made last summer. We must be thinking alike as I was short of funds so did almost the same thing as you did Beer. Aluminum block drilled and mounted same as you did. Not sure of the size right offhand. I run a threaded rod thru a piece of stainless tubing, acorn nuts top & bottom. A plastic washer at the top and a plastic washer with a tight fit rubber washer under the flag. My flag is the one Eddie sold with the VentureRiders.org. logo on it. Now I need to make another for an American flag. I'll post a pic of mine later. Larry
