Are you sure it's the ice cream that's so good or is the eye candy making it seem so?Mind you nothing wrong with eye candy thou Larry

I think next winter I'm going to gut mine out and convert it to a storage area. Hopefully I'll still be able to use the door. Anyone ever do this? Larry BTW: I'll make anyone a super deal on never been used cassette deck.

Don can't add nothing anyone else has already said but do know you're in thoughts and prayers here as well. Do what must be done to get better and do take a break as needed. Larry

You did a great job restoring that trailer. Now get it out on the road and enjoy using it. Larry

Speed sensor Flaky ?
Carbon_One replied to kj5ix's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
There's a white connector just behind the speedometer that feeds the speedo that can work loose or have poor connections. Check that and the vacuum cable under the left lower cowling. If you don't find any problrms there then in all likelyhood you have a bad-going bad speed sensor. I went thru the same thing earlier this summer and eventually had to replace the sensor after ensuring that the white connector was making good connections. Pinwall sells them for about $20 if I recall correctly. Larry -
Here's what few pics I took at the Hub Larry

I finally rolled in today at noon. I rode with Don to his place in Tn on Sunday, then headed towards home on Mon stopping in Dayton, Oh for the night. I had a great time seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Sure was good seeing everyone regardless of the heat. So instead of doing a lot of local riding we had time to get to know folks better. And that what's it's all about anyhow meeting folks here from the board. The rides are good too of course. Now it's time to figure what /where the next M&E is at. Later, Larry

Hi Mark. Deffineately a raked tree is the way to go as to head shake and much easier steering. One thing to do is tighten the steering head bearings. Torque the steering bearing nut to 25 ft lbs instead of using Yamaha's recommended specs. That alone will help a lot thou not a total cure. You'll find with more experience to just let the wheel do it's thing instead of fighting it. The trike will still want to go straight. On your tire pressures that's way too much . Most trike companies recommend 18 to 25 psi. I run mine at 20 -22 depending whether I'm riding solo or two up and loaded for trips. The air bags I use 16-18 psi but I have a Works shock so in your case you may need more but I hardly think you need more then 20-24psi. Your oem shock will most likely still require the normal pressures. Anyhow try lightening up on the air pressures and you'll find a much smoother ride. Larry

Got a pair of OEM's floating around here too. If bmorcom doesn't come thru for ya llet me know. Larry

Just curious Larry... Since you like the features of the Mio so much have you looked at what they have to offer now a days? Maybe they've made a better unit with similar features. Yea I tried looking at local stores who supposed to carry Mio GPS but only Radio Shack carries them, then only one model and on top of that no working unit for a hands on testing. I refuse to buy a unit blind, just too much money and if ya don't like it tough. Mio switched mapping companies so not sure how the new ones compare. Mio is very popular in Europe and Asia, not sure why they're not marketed here as much. Larry - I have a 550 on the RSV and a 1490T in the truck. I really like the 1490T for the screen size - My 550 on the bike washes out in the sun and can be a real pain if your in strange territory, like downtown Baltimore Md. I think you'll like the 1470, 'bout the same as my 1490T but I don't think the 1470 has bluetooth Yep almost the same No bluetooth but has traffic. Some nice features not found on my current Mio. Seems a bit slow bringing up satellites. I'm giving a run down this weekend going to the HUB. Larry

After 30 + years I finally did it - not for faint of heart

That's a serious OUC OUCH there Dick. I hate finger injuries as they always seem to remind you of your stupidity in cold weather, what all with their throbbing, etc when your hand gets cold. Once as a teenager I managed to to turn an index finget into hamburger with a gas powered model airplane engine. No bone damage, just chopped meat. Another time I did like tx2sturgis drilled a neat hole into a finge after drilling thru some sheetmetal. Another nice OUCH. Well heal well & fast as possible Dick. Larry Oh btw glad you didn't do this while you were making the jewerly the boxes or I might not of won one at the International -
Well I've snagged a Magellan 1470 that I'll be trying out for a while. It was a used unit that I swapped some labor for. It didn't have audio connections for headsets thus the reason the previous owner was willing to make the trade. http://www.magellangps.com/products/product.asp?segID=354&prodID=2178 Larry

Should I rebuild it? Final Drive

What Goose says and then do the power coating in the winter. Powder coating will require ne seals anyhow. larry -
Already have one of the nuvi 255w's. The wife bought it while we were attending the Int rally at Potato Creek. I checked it against the Mio this afternoon in the sun & it did show up better. Leaving wed to meet B2Dad in Tn so may install it on the bike to try out. Don one feature I like on the Mio is it has a pop up section that will give a bunch of info while still showing the map. MPH, elapsed trip time, arrival time, current time, distance to destination, three screens to chose from as to always up,natural direction, and high distant view as in an airplane. All 3 map views can be adjusted as flat or 3-D, + & - to adjust road views. Other stuff too but mind is blank now LOL Both units are about 4.3 so equal in size. What little surfing with the 255w I did I felt that I was moving around on the screen a lot for different info. Maybe just need to become more acquainted with it perhaps. Thanks for the input so far folks. Hindsite now but should of jumped on freebirds 550 before ponch snagged it, especially with Gary taking the xm. Oh well Larry

Awesome trip and thanks for the pics. Deffinately we need to get out that way for an International Rally, if not in 2011 then 2012 for sure. Larry -
Monty let me know if you find any or not. If you don't I should be able to snag a couple locally & bring em with me. Larry
-
I should note here that I'm not interested in all the extras that generally come with them. ipod, music hook ups, etc. since my hearing is shot so really all I need is visual stuff thou the wife does here the spoken turns etc so lets me know where to turn if I don't catch it. As to water proofing the Mio I'm currently using, it has been in serious downpours without any problems I do have a good sized aluminum sun shade for it that protectes it pretty good in rain. Gonna try to hit more stores in the next few days to see what's out there. Larry
-
Well being able to see the screen in sunlight is priority #1,. If there were features that would allow trips being downloaded like you showed me on yours then that would be a plus too. Probably asking to much to get good stuff on one without paying the piper, LOL Larry
-
Is it just me or what? I've been looking to upgrade from my current GPS unit, a Mio c520 I've had for about 3 years now. My only real complaint with it is that it washes out in sunlight, so it gets hard to see. Anyhow I just can't justify $500-$950 for a mc unit. After looking at several brands it sort of gets confusing after a while. Personally I don't care for the Gamin's series. To me they don't have the features that my current Mio unit has and also ,to me anyhow, seems awkward to use. Anyone care to recommend alternate models, brands? Something with one of the larger screens is prefered & easly seen in bright sunlight. Larry

My RSV is a gas pig..
Carbon_One replied to Midrsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Prior to triking my bike I consistantly was getting 38-42 mpg. Now that I've added 400lbs more weight and more frontal area I get 30-33mpg with a speedohealer unit set for actual speed. I have also upped the pilot jets 1 size in their respective carbs, fine tuned the mix screws and syn. the carbs. I did this before converting to the trike so triking had no effect there. I find a much better low end acceleration, cold engine starting now. So ya comparing my beast to yours I'd say something is way off. Larry -
Neat video. I think that was filmed in the US. But I think Honda has pulled the plug on US production for the Wings and returned it back to Japan. Still an interesting clip. Larry
