  1. At least you don't have far to go to get to Nashville .....
  2. Well ..... Go in your bathroom and lift the toilet seat .... See them plastic bumpers ... That was my first real job .... 3 seats a minute for 8 hours a day. Working on the left side of the assembly line because of being left handed. On third day left at lunch and never went back. Not even to collect pay. Think about it, how many toilet seats have you bought. 350+ people worked in that plant!

  17. http://coopertire.com/About-Us/History.aspx HISTORY The Cooper name has a proud and storied heritage that goes back nearly a century to 1914, when brothers-in-law John F. Schaefer and Claude E. Hart purchased M and M Manufacturing Company in Akron, producing tire patches, tire cement and tire repair kits. A year later, Schaefer and Hart purchased The Giant Tire & Rubber Company of Akron, a tire rebuilding business, and two years later moved the business to Findlay, Ohio.. The company grew in subsequent years through mergers, acquisitions and expanding sales. During World War II, the company demonstrated its flexibility and patriotism by converting its “hard goods” department to wartime production. The firm changed its name to Cooper Tire & Rubber Company in 1946 and by July 11, 1960, the company became a publicly held corporation and was listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Throughout the next five decades, the company expanded its products, manufacturing plants, distribution system and marketplace. The company joined the ranks of Fortune 500 companies in 1983 as one of the largest industrial companies in the United States. Net sales reached $1 billion in 1991. By 1999, Cooper had 50 manufacturing facilities in nine countries. Much of the company’s growth came through the acquisition of The Standard Products Company, a move that added 10,000 employees to its payroll. With the purchase of the highly regarded Avon Tyres Limited, based in Melksham, England, in 1997 and the acquisition of Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels in 2003, Cooper positioned itself as a preeminent producer of high-performance and ultra-high performance tires. In a December 2003 agreement, Cooper entered a joint venture with Kenda Rubber Industrial Company Ltd. for construction of a plant outside Shanghai, China, to produce radial passenger and light truck tires. Then, returning the company to its core business of tire manufacturing, in December 2004, Cooper completed the sale of its automotive business, Cooper-Standard Automotive, for approximately $1.165 billion. The sale included the 47 manufacturing facilities and operations of Cooper-Standard Automotive, which is a global manufacturer of fluid handling systems, body-sealing systems, and active and passive vibration control systems, primarily for automotive original equipment manufacturers. The sale in turn provided new opportunities for growth. In January 2005, Cooper announced an agreement to buy 11% interest in Kumho Tire. That month, the company also announced it was forming a new commercial division encompassing both Oliver Rubber Company and commercial tires. In October 2005, the company announced an agreement to obtain 51% ownership in China’s third largest tire manufacturer, Cooper Chengshan (Shandong) Passenger Tire Company Ltd. and Cooper Chengshan (Shandong) Truck Tire Company Ltd. To complement the company’s well-established European operations and product offerings, in January 2012, Cooper acquired the assets of an existing tire plant in Krusevac, Serb ia, providing an excellent location to supply tires to the European and Russian markets. Today Cooper Tire & Rubber Company and its family of companies is truly global, boasting more than 65 manufacturing, sales, distribution, technical and design facilities located around the world. But the company is hardly resting on past success. Cooper continues to improve plant efficiencies while capitalizing on its strong customer service and dealer relationships in North America; expanding its distribution network in Europe; and marketing Cooper Tires as a top brand in China. New products are driving increased sales and creating additional opportunity and growth potential.

  20. As has been said many times …. The following is just my impressions and thoughts on the subject of riding on the Dark side. No arguments about science, physics, math or legality. When I purchased my new to me 1999 RSV it had been used by another member as a sidecar rig and a Kumo Radial was installed on the rear. A “spare” rear wheel was included in the deal so I knew I could mount a motorcycle tire with very little problems or downtime. I adjusted air pressure on the bike and tires until I had a very good ride for me and rode for last summer on the Dark side. Let me begin by saying the Kumo performed very well. Handling my style of riding very well. Dry pavement traction, straight or twisty, was very good. Braking excellent and predictable. Wet weather traction and braking was beyond anything I have ever experienced on a motorcycle. The ride was quiet and air pressure checks very consistent. Is riding on the Dark side the way to go? Maybe I will see for myself. Now another riding season is here and time for a change and examination. We all “know” that the best tire for the RSV is the one each of us likes the best through use and experience so I will not “go there”. Having gone from my 83 Blondie to this Red/White RSV I went with the tire of choice for me as replacement of the Kumo. My choice was the Kendra, these performed great on the 83 so why not a try on a Second Gen. Of course the tires have a stiff sidewall so mounting is a little hard. Balancing was easy and very little weight used. After attempting to get the disk brake rotor off and on the spare wheel I chose the get a new rotor and move on preferring to not “sweat” the removal. Usual maintenance of the splines, check brake pads and such the new tire is on and time to ride. Well it’s raining so tomorrow …. Helmet, gloves, boots, jacket …. Bike is running and warming up….. Driver on, kickstand up …. And on the road. Slow speed handling better, slow speed braking still smooth has ever, now to ride some and scuff in the new tire. Combination of asphalt, concrete and even some small gravel at slow speed, now it’s time to get and a nice road and get the operating temperature up on the tire. Several run ups from stop to 60 mph…. now time for the empty parking lot for some practice and braking runs. After a while I thought it time to try some real braking…. My thoughts, Wow this Kendra can stop as good as the Kumo. Back on the road the ride is quiet and smooth. Still too early in this tire’s short life to try the twisty roads needs a few more miles of wear before pushing that issue. If you have read all of this you are saying cut to the chase Dark side yes or no …. For me the answer is no. My concern is a matter of the mind and what ifs. The largest being if the proverbial canine fecal matter hit the fan would my insurance pay? I don’t know and really don’t want to find out; if that is no concern for you then maybe riding the Dark side is okay. For some reason I just could not pick up the phone and call my agent to ask the question. I will say for those of you choosing to ride on the Dark side I know it works and seems to do it very well and I would never say a word of negative about your choice. Thanks for reading and let us all ride safe…..
