Yeah, that is what I was thinking is that my 3/4 Arai was a lot quieter than my modular. "Licks"? Is that a brand name?
-
I use the orange foam earplugs now. With the wind buffeting I get at anything over 70mph was thing that the density of the helmet might shave a few decibels off the noise. My memory is not as sharp as it used to be but I never remember my 3/4 Arai being this loud. You and me @aharbi got to get together sometime. Your in Texas. Missed you by a week on your last Twisted Sister ride. At least I think that was you.

What are your thoughts on Helmet material (Plastic - Fiberglass) vs Wind Noise. I have a HJC IS-MAX-BT modular plastic helmet now and I think it is very noisy because of the plastic shell. Years ago I had an Aria made out of Fiberglass and from what I can remember, it seemed much quieter. What are your thoughts and what quiet helmet do you recommend?

Baking Clutch Fluid - Exhaust Heat Shield

Under the wise direction of @V7Goose @Condor & @XV1100SE the dealer replaced the master cylinder diaphragm and the clutch was flushed/bled again on 3-6-15. Right now, the clutch is working perfectly and has absolutely clean, clear, new, fluid in it. Now we will see what happens after a few miles. A shout out of appreciation to Levi & Jon of Family Power Sports, San Angelo, TX. -

Oil Filter Comparisons... Hey I.m no Engineer
Du-Rron replied to Du-Rron's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
@oconeedan I am using T6 and a PL14612 (yellow). Bike likes the oil as the shifting is very slick. -
I want a set of the floorboard pegs. You know whats coming next... Where didja get em? Thanks!

Dear @oconeedan: Your physical & mental capabilities as well as the technology available to - take a phone call- while riding have never been in question. I believe that > 99% of the public consider it heinous to -take a phone call- hand free or not, during sex, during a movie in a theater, during a funeral, etc. I would like the status of -taking a phone call- while riding, to be elevated to the same socially unacceptable level, as those in the previously mentioned list. In the event of an accident, I would also like a large metal spike to emanate forth from the steering wheel of a car instead of the airbag, to drivers guilty of -texting while driving-. I believe with a driver knowing this before hand, they may be less likely to drive distracted. Knowing full well that I will completely fail in my attempt to convert any body else over to my ideas, I am completely content to remain the only person on the planet who has these thoughts. However, I try to convey these thoughts to others whenever I get the chance.

Dear @oconeedan: I'm new here as well. When riding, the one thing that really *&^$%# off is watching cagers text, talk on the phone, eat hamburgers, etc... while attempting to drive. They are so preoccupied, they do not even know that I saw them. So... it is for that reason that I am trying to discourage bikers from finding a way ... to talk on the phone .... while riding. Please enjoy the scenery, and your ride and try not to let the world encroach on your very private time while riding and trying to stay alive. The outside world does not have the right to be in contact with you 24/7. I would like to re-elevate the time allotted to riding to be of the same importance as say... having sex. When having sex, I doubt you would continue to do what your doing and at the same time -take a phone call-. If you have to be in contact with the outside world 24/7, just stop every so often and check your missed messages.

Oil Filter Comparisons... Hey I.m no Engineer
Du-Rron replied to Du-Rron's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
@BlueSky I would say our bikes have just a tad lower oil pressure at maximum rpm than most other vehicles at mid-rpm. I am only guessing that at 70MPH that the RSV is pushing around 35-40PSI oil pressure. My F150 is pumping 75PSI minimum oil pressure at 2000RPM. Almost twice as much as a RSV at full tilt. -

14612 = short 14610 = long I use the 14612 because it is the same size as the 5GH-13440-30 Yamaha filter and it lets me change it out without unbolting the Regulator/Rectifier during install/removal. The longer 14610 would be a tighter fit for me requiring more fiddling around to get it on and off. As I say above, Just about -any- filter would be better than the factory Yamaha filter. Did you use the white filter or the yellow filter on your last bike? -
Might want to look at this tech bulliten. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?62016-Audio-System-Tech-Bulletin-M2008-003&highlight=M2008-003 If you really want another system, check out Crutchfield or JPCycles.

There is a service manual on here in the 2nd Gen Tech Articles. On page 8-73 is the diags for cruise. Venture Manuals To get my cruise to work: Master switch toggle full LEFT and it will return to center for ON. To set Speed: Push SET/DEC once then right away hit RES/ACC -twice- and cruise will take over at the speed you are at with no waiting.

What was up with the clutch causing you to bleed it in first place? Was it working ok before bleeding it? Is it leaking now? Look up and down clutch line and at both master and slave cylinders. If no, then I would rebleed using a vacuum bleeder if you have one, or many-many manual pulls on the lever if you don't. Have you bled a clutch before?

Baking Clutch Fluid - Exhaust Heat Shield
Du-Rron replied to Du-Rron's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Went to dealer on Saturday. I know these guys. They offered to replace every seal/hose from master cylinder to slave all at once, ...she-bang. We then had a chat about finding the possible one component that would most likely be causing the problem and if we changed all the variables at once we would never know what it was. Outcome was dealer ordered master cylinder diaphragm and will replace it and re-bleed clutch (just for the heck of it) when part comes in next week. If at any time in the future I don't like it, then next step is mastercylinder piston kit, then hose, then slave kit. Wash Rinse Repeat as necessary. Right now, since the clutch fluid is a week old, the clutch is working perfectly. New master cyl diaphragm & clutch fluid will be installed next week and then we will "play" with it for a while. The mechanic we had inspected clutch and since it was good, other than my report of previously nasty fluid and grabby clutch with said nasty fluid, he couldn't find anything wrong with it. No creep, full disengagement, no slip when feathered in fourth and then re-engaged at speed, slick shifts and no leaks. -

Don't use DeXCool. Use a green coolant. I used Hyundai Long Life Antifreeze. Comes in a concentrate and is $22.00 at my Hyundai dealer. Crush washers http://www.venturerider.org/forum/second-generation-venture-tech-talk/95817-crush-washers.html -
