Red Means Stop. Yellow means Stop if Safe to do so. Green does NOT mean go. Green means "Go if safe to do so".

San Angelo, Texas is the 7th hottest city in America. We also burn along at 40%-50% humidity. Phoenix has a lower feeling "dry" heat at 21% (Panzies I say). You wanna test out your new v-twin mega-inch air-cooled motorcycle to see if it is "hot"... Bring it to San Angelo and we will let ya know. http://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/the-50-hottest-cities-in-america/ss-BBCXi1f?li=BBnb7Kz&ocid=iehp#image=44

And yet... I always wondered why more bangs per minute pulling fuel from a smaller jet would get better gas mileage than less bangs per minute pulling fuel from a larger jet. Heck, at some point in the throttle roll on and rpm range there should be a point where the smaller jet is maxed out and pulling fuel from the larger jet as well, at many bangs per minute. On the 2nd Gen, could it have something to do with the throttle position sensor taking the ignition timing down a notch above throttle being barely open, thinking the engine is under higher load, and thereby avoid pinging? Less ignition timing makes the engine less fuel efficient at lower RPM's with more throttle applied. More fuel efficient under light loads, low throttle angle, and higher rpms with max timing. Does a 1st Gen have a throttle position sensor? Any thoughts on the above? For what its worth, my bike , a 2nd Gen, is parked in the garage right now, ignition off. I swear it's still sipping on a little fuel...

Actually, if you have a 2000 RSV, the service manual is over here at: http://labs.trunkful.com/vrmanuals/index.cfm
-
A copy of the service manual is available on here and the neutral switch diags are in there starting on page 8-1. As for the clutch, they are real tough to bleed if you have emptied it of fluid. I have had luck with a vacuum bleeder. Day 1. Fill & bleed clutch. Zip-tie clutch lever to handlebar overnight. Day 2. Fill & bleed clutch again.

This is really a 6pack job. You can get the shock out just by removing wheel and links and drop it out from the bottom. However, like everybody else says, now is the time to clean and regrease everything.

I've tried to stop beating this horse but I can't resist.... Watercooled Engine's BTU's are the same as AirCooled Engines's BTU's. A watercooled engine usually has the heat-exchanger a foot or so away from you in the downtubes. This gives the BTU's a little more time to disperse before they get to you, so it might not feel as hot as a comparable aircooled motorcycle throwing off the same BTU's. An Aircooled Engines BTU's... in a VTwin, usually has the heat-exchanger right below your family jewels. This close proximity of heat is concentrated in this area when no air is moving across the cooling fins, or you. I believe this is why the Aircooled engine feels much hotter. From the closeness and pinpoint concentration of heat. In my opinion... for the money you are spending... you should get a water cooled engine in this class of motorcycle. In addition to no-brainer better heat management, you get several other benefits only a liquid cooled engine can offer.

Here is something interesting... http://www.cycleworld.com/cooling-the-authentic-way-kevin-cameron-top-dead-center

The second gen Venture has excellent build quality. For instance, every bolt hole on the bike is measured for position, drilled, and tapped by the factory most often backed up by a weld nut. The shock mount/strut linkages also have "bolt head holders" so you can tighten the nut without using two wrenchs. I can only hope Mama Yama puts this much care into Venture 3rd edition.

yes yes yes exactly yes!!!!

Interesting notes on engine from what I think I see. Jugs are now interchangeable since exhaust exits FR on front cyl and LR on rear CYL unlike Raider/Strat which has both exhaust on right. Unlike Raider/Strat chain drive transmission, this looks to be "cassette type" bolted on gear drive transmission.

What Do Y'all Have Against Belt Drive Motorcycles?
Du-Rron replied to SilvrT's topic in Watering Hole
I like belt drives. Had a few. However... rock meet belt... Up to $1000 for repair. Rock meet shaft drive. Shaft drive says, "huh, what did you say?" Tenere has a shaft drive for a reason. Mega tour bikes should have shaft drive for same reason. -
Lets talk about the 4th Generation Venture. I hear it will finally have the snot slinging fire breathing V4.

Harley has to drop the back jug when the bike gets too hot at idling speed due to lack of surface area to get rid of heat. It's called "Parade Mode". StratoVenture has -electric- park assist. StratoVenture has ABS. StratoVenture has hydraulic & mechanical tappets just like the Strat the engine came from. You WILL have to adjust the valves. StratoVenture is pictured with two helmets in trunk on Yamaha website. Dunno what size they are.

I have calmed down a little now. I understand this from Yamaha's point of view. You don't have to hit it into outerspace, you just have to hit it out of the ball park to win. If Yamaha were to bring a VmaxVenture to market, they would be hitting for outer space. Bringing the StratoVenture to market lets them win all the same, with lower costs to Yamaha. Really, if you are looking for a Road Glide Ultra/CVO Road Glide Ultra/Electra Glide Ultra/Roadmaster then the StratoVenture should be on your "to buy" list. The StratoVenture will out-everything those previously mentioned models, as future magazine reviews will point out, and will do so at a lower price to you. The VENTURE name is what gets me. They could have named it anything. But no, they went with "Venture". The "Venture" line is water cooled, shaft drive, V-4's since the beginning of time. I felt the same disappointment when Ford relabeled Pinto's as MUSTANG II's. Now that I have reconciled the naming problem... I'll just call them StratoVentures to make it OK in my head. Yes... I will ride one the first chance I get.

I liked my V65 Sabre. Wish I would have never sold her. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/dbtgallery.php?do=view_image&id=28060&gal=gallery http://www.venturerider.org/forum/dbtgallery.php?do=view_image&id=28062&gal=gallery http://www.venturerider.org/forum/dbtgallery.php?do=view_image&id=28171&gal=gallery http://www.venturerider.org/forum/dbtgallery.php?do=view_image&id=28169&gal=gallery

Very Sorry to hear this. Very glad you are still in one piece (kinda) and able to tell about it.
