Please stop reading what you want into any article. Paul, in this video just says ride the bike. He gives no comparitive against its' ancestor, the V4, or the politics "of what could have been." Long Haul Paul WANTS to ride a million miles for a good cause. As of 2018 he has 300K on him. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Pelland A shoutout for Paul Pelland. Attaboy Paul!!!!! -

Great... they shoulda called it a Raiderliner. Great... they shoulda called it a StratoRaider Great... they shoulda called it a RoadRaider. We are glad Yamaha made a new tour bike and wish them the best. They did not have to crap all over the Venture name and the V-4 engine configuration to do so. That's just lazy. And to us 1st and 2nd Gens, the 3rd Gen just seems to be an oh so lazy exercise by Yamaha to get a tour bike out, when it could have been so much more. Yamaha is only looking to sell about 2500 of them a year. Hell... that is what Harley makes during a lunch run. -

IMO the 3rd Gen Venture is way over-priced. -
The man to which you are speaking has easily ridden several Ventures in excess of 1.2 Million Miles. He has posted a video of a new Venture and offered all those who don't like his video to post their own "better" version. We don't see any new version videos yet... just folks with words taking their shot over his bow. Think about it.

Yeah... you and me are gonna be on here for a long time. We might as well have fun with each other. I try humor, or at least my version of humor, when I smell something that is not right and try to correct it. Well... a computer that runs two cylinders aint that big of a deal. Since you brought it up, what is your background in commercial fuel mapping (squeezed mode)? We will do just fine.

Wow what a fun morning. Can you tell that it is raining here??? Dirt tamer.. throttle tamer... Electric Throttle Control... I think that "Tour Mode" would be what I would call "Standard Throttle". I think that "Sport Mode" changes the throttle plates to more closely follow the hysteresis of the throttle position sensor to the throttle angle in the right grip thereby eliminating a "dampning" effect in the throttle plates. If the 3rd Gen Venture were to have the electric throttle off the FZ-09 you would not be able to ride the Venture due to abrupt engine acceleration caused by throttle plate movement. On a high torque engine, the throttle must be "damped" or every little bump in the road would cause tiny throttle movement and a herky jerky ride. I believe "Sport Mode" removes some damping through at least 3/4 throttle. Rev Limits and Maximum Horsepower and Torque are unchanged. I can't wait till you get another chance to ride one as well. Still got the Superman Suit?

Since this is a hydraulic engine with JUST FOUR screw & lock-nut adjusters... If I am gonna spend the time to pop the lids then I am sure as heck gonna spend all of 15 seconds per each adjuster to get them back to Zero. Wouldn't make sense to spend all the time taking the tank and plastics off to just LOOK at the adjusters. It's a screw and lock-nut... fifteen seconds more time and you get back to zero with absolutely no problems. It will take you more time to drink one beer, than it will to adjust the valves (those FOUR SCREW & LOCK-NUT adjusters) starting when you get the valve covers off. VERSUS On a 2nd Gen Venture you have to remove and replace SIXTEEN precision ground shims of all different sizes since it is a shim-over-bucket engine. This takes hours and then you have to order the correct size replacement shims or have some already ready to go to get the thing back together. Be prepared with cases of beer and you might as well call in sick tomorrow because you WILL have a hang-over by the time you get this beast back together.

I know what it is like to have a new bike and want to do right by it. But, I would NOT spend the money to order tools from Yamaha off their special tools page. Other options are available much more economically. Don't need em. Just set each adjustable one to ZERO and you are done. I would get one, but it would not be from Yamaha unless they can do it for the same price as the on-line retailers. My dealer wants my business so he matches prices on everything from batteries to tires. Check pricing on-line first then check with the dealer. Don't need it. Do you have sufficient knowledge, ability, tools, and time to work on anything this tool would tell you? Also, you have a one year warranty and a four year extra service contract. Probably not gonna work on any of those electrics anytime soon. I would not get this USB Tool just yet. After a few years somebody on here will get one and then you can just pass it around when you need it. You will be slinging tires on-off this bike more than you will be needing to plug in this tool. A large screw driver and hammer will work wonders. I bet you already have these so they are essentially free. Harbor Freight. $15 for a 3/8 drive. However, if you will just give that oil filter a 3/4 to 1 full turn after it contacts the gasket you will have the job done correctly. Then... we can have an OIL-FILTER WAR later on.

Valve adjustment required. No feeler gauges required. Feather touch-down adjuster on valve till there is no clearance. I mean lightly... feather soft...kiss the adjuster on the valve stem. Tighten lock-nut. Done. The spec is for Zero inches to Sixteen Ten Thousands. Sixteen ten thousands is about the width of a beer-fart. Less than a burrito-fart however.

Oh dear God please don't go there... You did... You just did. But... But... But... DIESELS don't use 91 Octane gas or have an Ignition system to have Ignition Timing (Fuel Advance yes. Ignition timing no.) Only Air-cooled motorcycles & snotty Bimmers use 91 Octane to keep their heads from being a live grenade. According to Yamaha, the engine is not de-rated or up-rated by either mode. Only throttle response is changed on the low and mid-range portion. You will not let me give you a break. That is what I want to ride... a run-away! NO thanks! I'll take a VMax please.

In the future... please misquote the manual... properly. 0.0016" is the same thing as ZERO. So is 0.0018 The spec denotes no improved metallurgy regarding heat. The hydraulic adjuster may have enough stack to allow for as much as 5/32" of play while still keeping valve clearance to zero. Intake and exhaust. See 4 hydraulic lifters as number 15 and you will see in the valve train where they are located and how they function. Adjuster screw and nut 10 and 11 just make that side zero too. Victory Motorcycles hated this setup as it is famous for twist wear as pointed out in one of their videos. 1.56 in following video So... we are happy for you and your new bike and hope you enjoy it now that you more properly understand some items about it.

Most "wrenchers" are not as experienced as they profess to be. Don't twist the belt. Get the tool, do it right once, then forget about it for thousands of miles or the next tire change. Between tire changes give the belt a once over for rocks and wear. Yes, even wash the belt and pulleys with soap water and a toothbrush. Factory spec is 4 mm deflection with 10 lbs force. Yamaha & Kawasaki like their belts real tight. Most folks back off on the VN900 to 6mm or 8mm.
