  1. Nice looking ride! Lots of spit and polish and these things are killers on the road.

You’ve done an incredible job so far and looking forward to seeing the end result. Kudos for keeping the classics alive!!!

Amazing how many riders I’ve met on my 83 that ask, what kind of bike is that???

I’ve removed most of the badging (added a couple fun ones too) and removed some of the damaged side plastics to give mine a different appearance.

  2. What a fabulous restoration! A true Phoenix!

Congratulations :happy65: ... Just shows what can be done with a little (or maybe a lot) of hard work & dedication!

PS I love that Corbin seat. (for Looks, not sure what it's like to ride on)

I don’t know how it rides yet either. It came with an 84 barn find bike we picked up a few months back. Thought it would work for now. Will let you know how it does once I put some miles on the behind.

  3. Took the 83 out late yesterday for a short 3 mile shakedown ride. Carbs need adjusting but have to get me another manometer before in can do that.

She’s all together again (tour pack was lost in fire) and she has a few scars but I’m pleased with how good she turned out.

Had to put the 84 Corbin seat on until I get the other one recovered but it doesn’t look bad.

Hoping to do a real good shakedown ride on Saturday if weather permits.

  4. Come on over! You are welcome any time!

I bought the conductor plate from rockauto.com for about $150. All the parts stores seem to sell the same brand which is Dorman. I was quoted about $1600 at the dealer to do the job, $900, and $500 at two transmission shops. The dealer wanted $963 for just the conductor plate. A while back I bought a dipstick from B&M that is designed to stay in place. I'm not sure I trust it though. According to it, my transmission was overfull and I had had the dealer check it a couple years prior to that. Yeah, what I dread the most is getting that beast up off the ground high enough to work under it. Being so low to the ground and with the unibody construction it ain't like my old chevy's. After getting this dang Shingles under control, I will tackle the job and let you know how it turned out.

I got my plate for $66.00 and since 99% of them are made at the same place I shopped for the best price.

Ordered a filter and pan gasket on ebay as well for $18,50 including shipping.

I got the dip stick that you have to take out because it has the ML markings on it. Have to check the level when hot, 180* and above.

I found this info while searching fluid levels and such. one blog said to start with 5qts (4.73 L) then add as needed and another stated it will take 5.0 L (10.6 pints)

I plan to do mine first of next week and will let you know how it goes.

  5. I have the need for a torque wrench that can measure 72 in. lbs. Anybody have any recommendations for a quality unit? I was looking at a Proto or Matco.

My 2005 Dodge Magnum RT has a Mercedes transmission and this model is infamous for the electro-hydraulic conductor plate failing. It is mounted on top of the valve body and the valve body bolts have a torque rating of 72 in. lbs. That is the need. I'm tempted to do the job with my calibrated arms. It's 6 ft. lbs which shouldn't be too hard to guess at.

I may have to come over and borrow your torque wrench when your done.

I'm getting ready to do my 05 Magnum RT conductor plate next as well.

Doesn't look difficult to do if its up in the air enough so we don't keep bumping our heads.

Have you purchased your plate, dipstick, and filter yet? Got my stuff on eBay and for a great prices.

Trans shop wanted $750.00 to do the job I can do for under $150.00

Let me know how yours goes and I'll do the same.

  6. Gym starting to work a little for me but weight needs addressed now. I have changed my eating habits somewhat. Trying to eat better and a little less but not loosing any. Stuck at 240. I drink Diet Pop and too much of it. I've heard that cutting it out will help with weight. Anyone had any experience along that line???

Diet sodas are the worst thing you can drink you’re better off drinking light beer which doesn’t make your body store fat and calories.

Best way I found to loose weight was only eating half of what was on my plate including what I put on it at home. Saved the remainder for lunch the following day.

Started drinking water and had 2 light beers in the evening (helps you get rid of toxins in the kidneys) and no!!! 6 isn’t better. I lost 23 lbs in 5 weeks doing this.

Do whatever feels right for you but get off sodas/pop all together.

Hope you get to feeling better and good luck.

  7. Ahead of schedule for a change and will post more updates as she gets closer to test ride day.

Here are a few progression pictures of my 83 blonde Venture Royale 2nd rebirth.

A lot of hard scrubbing with simple green, dawn, and skin from my knuckles to get the soot and other fire damage off.

Repaired as much if the cracked fairing parts as possible. She will have a few battle scars but the alternative would have been much worse.

More to come, Ride Safe Y’all.

  8. Yep.. I wasn't that far off.. See I can still remember a few things.. :-) BTW that seat looks great too. Wasn't sure if it could be saved, but you've done an awesome job. It's a Merry Terry made in her shop in Old Sacramento. She's still in biz but no longer builds seats. One of the most comfortable I've ever ridden....

Sorry Jack but the seat is toast. The extreme heat from the fire dried the seat cover and it split in 4 different places. It also burnt off most of the leather/suede top material.

Patty is going to try to make a new cover with material I found and we will save the cushion material since it still feels nice to sit on.

Pictures of the seat recovered will be posted when done as well.

  9. Running naked..... I drove mine naked lol.

Sent from my LG-K371 using Tapatalk

Here she is running the Macs pipes. I like the sound much better than the stock pipes. Has a mid range rumble, not to loud but enough to let you know she’s a V4.

BTW this was the first time in 1-1/2 years she was started. Sat a long time after the fire in a storage unit. Felt good to hear her running again.

  10. Haven’t used one of these since I had my 63 GMC which BTY was on it when I bought it.

Back then the TP seemed to be a bit thicker butt what a mess when it came changing it out.

Wet oily TP dripping all over and the breakdown of the paper was horrendous.

It took two rolls of paper towel to sop up the oil that spilled out.

Took it off and put in a real filter after that one oil change, much better.

Another thing to consider is the cost of the set up. How many real filters can you buy for the cost of the TP set up.

About $250 for the TO set up or $8.00 for a regular filter.

If you change your oil every 3000 to 5000 miles it would take over 120000 miles just to break even on the cost not including the cost of the TP, paper towel.

    Thank my humble opinion.

  11. Finely got started on rebuilding the 83 since the fire. Stripped her down and have started working on cleaning all the soot off, or as much as I can without taking everything apart.

Started her yesterday and she runs ok for now. Will need the carbs adjusted and such but I was surprised she started at all, well not to suprised, it is a Venture after all.

If all goes according to plan she will be back in the road before months end.

After that it’s back to work on the 84.

    More updates to come.

  12. Putting this on my calendar and think it’s a great idea. So many I’ve not had the privilege to meet and now living near Knoxville gives me the opportunity to do just that.

Going to make our plans to be there.

    Thanks Randy!!!

  13. Thanks Puc for the great 84 carb parts rescue!!! Received the diaphragms yesterday and will be working on the carbs next week.

Here are a few pictures of what I got out of the fuel tank and the result of 2 weeks of trying to get the slides out of one of the carbs.

Amazing what sitting for nearly 20 years can do to gas, and yes, that would be rust from the tank.

Guess ill have to do a bit of tank cleaning and sealing or add a new tank to the tour pack, lol.emoji-eyes-fire-Favim.com-4652571.jpeg

Thanks again for all your help and I hope you get to feeling better real soon brother!!!
