If things don't work out the civil, letter-writing way, you may even consider talking to a lawyer about it. Of course, I realize that that leaves a "bad taste" in your mouth. Darn tigers!
-
You know - I think I've seen you out on your bike. Of course, I didn't wave - you had the wrong color helmet for that.

Then how the heck did you get into THIS site?? I thought we had better standards than that.

Lost gas mileage
cbmel replied to Oldgold's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Can't help you on the fuel spraying issue, but I thought I'd chime in on the mpg situation. I've had the 86 for a couple of months and mileage has been pretty consistent around 45-47. Solo or 2-up, doesn't seem to make a difference. If I was only getting in the low 30's I'd be tearing into it - I get THAT kind of mileage with my car! -
Well, I WAS going to put more information in, but then I saw all those #$% lawyer jokes and comments......

Sneaky, sadistic, perhaps even a bit cruel. No wonder I liked it!
-
And I was Sasquatch KLK5841. Two big-footers out there at the same time - dangerous!

Well, it's not quite as clear cut as that. Here's the "rest of the story": http://www.snopes.com/politics/immigration/englishvote.asp

Ditto the Wisconsin confusion. What is this ski thing all about? Is there a trick we should know about for use in our part of the frozen tundra??!!

I agree on the old ones. I had an 1100 and a 1500 and both were tight in the leg room, and my feet felt like they were being pinned backwards. But the 1800 seemed to fit much better. No question that it's all a matter of taste. Some like the cruiser look; I like the full tour look. That BMW would have to be in the running too. I even tried on the new Concours 1400 the other day. Much more comfortable for me than the old one, but the wife still didn't like her positioning, so you know that one wouldn't stand a chance of making the list!

I'm 6'3" and the leg position was fine with me. Of course, it is possible that my "boys" have already retired and gone ahead to Arizona without me.

Interesting. I drove the GL1800 and thought that it was very similar in seating position and handling to the 86 Venture that I was looking at. Nice bike, but keeping an extra $14,000 in my pocket made for a very convincing argument to be the Venture (which, by the way, is my 3rd). If mine ever dies and I can't find a decent 1st gen to replace it, the Wing would be my choice over a 2nd gen. It just seems to fit like a 1st gen. Might make an interesting poll to see what other 1st gen owners would do in that situation.

You guys actually catch fish??!! I just end up drowning innocent worms. If it wasn't for the beer, it wouldn't be any fun at all. Of course, I guess that's true of a lot of things. And as for ice fishing, that would be aisle 8, frozen foods. If it's not Mrs. Paul's, throw it back!
-
TURBO????? Now THAT's gonna make a 1st gen. WAAAY too fast! Maybe you could sell it to one of the 2nd gen. owners so they can get up to speed!

1st Gen. front mudflap
cbmel replied to cbmel's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
MikeM850 - The one in the Yamaha parts fiche looks rigid, but I'd settle for floppy, too. Bongobobny - PM sent. mbrood - having been burned once by that ebay'er I'll stay away from that one. -
I've got an 86, and it looks like there used to be a mudflap on the front fender. Yamaha doesn't show it on their parts fiche as a separate item. Anybody know where to get one?

That is some ugly pain. When I had it, nothing cut the pain like plain old aspirin. Not Tylenol, not Alleve, nothing could touch it like aspirin. Of course, if I'd have had some morphine handy......!

The *OFFICIAL* Gas Mileage Poll
cbmel replied to Monsta's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Last tank was 46, the one before 47, both mostly 2-up riding. For the 900 miles that I've had the bike, that seems to be where it is. -
For any of you in the Wisconsin area, I saw a big display of it at Menard's, a regional home improvement store. It must be catching on.

So fast I am losing parts!!!
cbmel replied to uthpda's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Parts falling off a 1st gen. is so rare that it's worthy of a full-blown thread in the forum. Parts off a 2nd gen, on the other hand..... -

If it's the inside vent, these guys show it for about $50. http://www.powersedge.net/pages/parts/viewbybrand/2/yamaha.aspx -
Isn't this from page 21 of the Venture Owner's Manual?

8-12 Thousand more? Last time I checked, I could pick up a new Wing for under 17 (MSRP 19,400 or so). I think all I'd be missing is the CB, and I would have a tach. '08 RSV MSRP is about 2 grand less, although I don't know how far down a dealer would go. I'm not sure I understand what numbers you're comparing. I agree about the positives, but telling Yamaha what changes (don't call them "negatives") would improve the bike is also a good idea. Won't get what you want if you don't ask!
