I believe that you are correct that the pump is just out pumping the inflow. Another option is to reduce the pumps flow by throttling a valve. Since the pump is pumping less water, it will use less power. You don't state what type of 1½" pipe but I am assuming plastic (ABS or PVC). Maybe a valve like this? https://www.grainger.com/product/GRAINGER-APPROVED-PVC-Ball-Valve-32H952 Just looking at the picture of the valve, I wonder if you got an 1¼" valve, if you could slip an 1½" "No Hub" coupling https://www.grainger.com/product/2ZU19?gclid=CPGVyY7LmMkCFZU1aQod5MYEBQ&cm_mmc=PPC:GOOGLEPLAA-_-Plumbing-_-Pipe%20Fittings%20and%20Couplings-_-2ZU19&AL!2966!3!50916794037!!!g!82128168357!&ef_id=VGE1bAAAAFLLT0Jf:20151117231459:s over the outside of the valve? Would make it easy to install.

It's been almost 4 months - I think I'm "home free"

When I quit smoking back in the early 80s I just drank more. When I quit drinking in '93 I just chewed more. But when I quit chewing in '99, I was completely beside myself. All were done cold turkey. I know that I don't have another quit in me so I can't re-start any of them. Congratulations. -
Looking for a place to park my truck and trailer out west.
Leland replied to BigLenny's topic in Watering Hole
A little further North, but you are welcome to leave it at my place here in the Denver area. -
I'm sure that the government would love it if all of its' subjects drove these little speed bumps.

Removing a Broken Key
Leland replied to Patmac6075's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My local ACE Hardware had the Yamaha key blanks in stock. I also keep a spare key and $200.00 stashed on the bike for the "just in case". -
Last weekend, my wife and I were joined by our son on his '12 HD V-rod and another couple on their '11 HD Ultra for a leaf looker tour to Steamboat Springs, CO via Hwy US 40 over Berthoud Pass. Could not have asked for better weather. As per enforced rules, a few pictures are attached.

Spare Key for 2nd Gen

Ace Hardware had the blanks for mine in stock. -
I have a center stand, but don't see how you could remove the rear wheel with it. Whenever I change my tires, I remove the center stand and install Carbon one's lift adapter (easy). You have to lift the bike pretty high to remove the rear wheel. Now if the rear fender was hinged like the old Harleys then you could do it.

To Toe Heel or not to toe heel that is the queston
Leland replied to Kc9ojn's topic in Watering Hole
I did that and do not regret it. Like having the extra room to move my foot back, but still have the heal shift available. Heel - Toe shifter has to go! - Page 3 -

What air pressure are Commander 2 users running front and back?
-
Installed Michelin Commander II tires. Have been using Dunlop E III, but not as happy with them as many here. Going to the smaller front for the first time, used a Contour Gage to compare the old E III 150 to the new 130. The contour of the center 2½"-3" looks identical. Got them for a good price at Performance Cycle of Colorado, performancecycle.com Front $113.95, Rear $157.95.

Easy test: Remove thermostat from its' subbase and jumper the two wires in the subbase. If it works, then maybe just a bad thermostat. If above proves true, this temporary fix may get you through the winter. Add 24VAC coil relay. Wire N.O. contacts of relay to thermostat terminals on ignition control. Wire one relay coil terminal to one side of 24V transformer. Wire other transformer terminal to one of the thermostat wires. Second thermostat wire to other coil terminal. This will take all of the load off of the thermostat.

What model is your new control? You say that you have 30V at the transformer with the ignition control connected, but did you check power at the t-former while it was trying to light? A bad t-former can act just like a bad battery. Show proper voltage with no load, but loose voltage under load, which is the greatest while trying to light. Replacement t-former must be rated for sufficient VA (volts X amps) to supply power to 24V components. Typically a minimum of 40VA.
