  1. I bought a Bosch 3300 a few weeks ago and finally got around to installing it today. Same problem; as soon as the gasket was starting to make contact, the filter came to a hard stop and would go no more. Here's a pic of the yamaha filter I took off next to the Bosch. The oil filter bolt on my bike is all the way in; it just sticks out too far for this filter that is not concave. I guess I'll be looking for something with a concave surface tomorrow.
  2. This is what I ended up doing. thank you Jeff and Steve for your answers.
  3. Hoping for a quick answer: I have Skydocs 2nd gen clutch upgrade kit, the one with just the full disc, heavy duty spring, and new gasket. After everything is out, is this correct: the new full disc goes in first, then the first steel plate, then the wire, then the rest of the discs and steel plates? Mainly my question is about the wire; does it go back and in what position? thanks in advance!
  4. I'll have to admit, I didn't know what a Venture was until less than a year ago.... But when my wife and I rode to St. Ignance late last summer/early fall on my 650 maxim, I was really looking at other bikes due to my growing desire to upgrade to something bigger after 3 years. I was always thinking a used Goldwing would be nice, had no real interest in Harley for some reason and didn't even know what big bikes Yamaha had offered. So I was at a gas station near Cross Village, and another couple was fueling up next to me on an AWESOME looking bike which was an Ultra Classic. I was in love the style and warmed up to HD a little more. When we got home I began regularly browsing CL and came across a listing for BEAUTIFUL AWESOME WONDERFUL blue touring bike with a matching trailer, and the writer of the ad claimed it to be a Yamaha "Royal Star Venture". DING DING DING DING! It was L.A.F.S. for me, too! I was already a Yamaha fan, and the more I read and researched about RSV, the more I wanted one. After a month of watching/waiting, my 99 came up on CL, at an asking price I could handle, and so here I am!
  5. Like you said, time will tell if this is true. Kind of a non-issue for me because I won't be in the market for any $20,000 bike no matter whose nameplate they bear; although I don't want it to be called a Venture if it's not a Venture at heart! This report makes me wonder..... What was the reaction when the '99 Royal Star Venture was revealed? Other than the V4, it was completely different from the Venture Royale; so what did you think at the time?
  6. Kind of a habit from the XJ forum, lots of kids there like to chop up and strip down their bikes and make 'cafe racers' then they wonder why they don't run good without the stock airbox, so PODS! is the reason. Get it?
  7. That stinks! Whether they are lying or simply mistaken, I hope the truth comes out in your favor!
  8. Glad to hear you are (claiming) to be out again. (allegedly)
  9. Yeah, I saw some evidence of that effect in the form of a 'blank' circle near the bottom left of my windshield where I had removed a round sticker that the P.O. put on. Jay, how close are you to getting your bike on the road? I want to try again since my bike foiled our ride last year!
  10. I sanded the film completely off.....time will tell if that was a mistake!
  11. Yes, FF is correct, I entered this bargain knowing I would be removing the OEM film and would require maintenance... but I wanted to see if I could improve it until I get around to buying a tall/wide F4 windshield since the windshield was already in 'meh' condition. Actually the film gave me a good guide to know when the sanding was done. And thanks for the tip about the vertical cleaning; I'll put it into practice.
  12. My saddlebag hinges were plain in the center, and looked like something needed to go there. I decided to try red reflector tape. I'm not sure if I love the look; but they do catch the light. I wonder how they would look if I put a smoke tint over them?
  13. My windshield is the original OEM on my '99 and although not yellowed or real cloudy; wasn't very clear when in headlights or evening sun due to glare from many fine scratches. It's a nuisance for me because this is a windshield that has to be looked through, it's too tall to look over the top. I remembered a post where it was stated that Plast-X did a good job for restoring motorcycle windshields so I bought Meguiar's Headlight Restoration Kit that had Plast-x plus some sanding pads, buffing wheel, and headlight protectant. It even listed that is it good for motorcycle windscreens on the package. I didn't take a before pic, but here's my bike from last week: The instructions said to sand windsheld with 1000 grit pad from kit. I only sanded the front side; it appears to get the most abuse. After sanding I wiped it with a clean microfiber cloth. At this point, I was just hoping I didn't ruin it! I then sanded again with 3000 grit, wiped, and applied plast-x, wiped, applied protectant, wiped again. Then I applied plast-x and protectant to the inside. Results: (first pic sanded with 3000 grit, second pic finished) More views: Not perfect, but looks much better while sitting in the garage.... As soon as it is road tested I will follow up with another post!
  14. Hey, Billmac's slingshot don't count cuz it's missing it's engine!
  15. Well hey there Jimmy99, congrats on the bike. BTW, my name is Jim and I have a '99 and we're practically across the river from each other, I'm just a little downstream from you.
  16. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/2013/04/10-motorcycle-safety-tips-for-new-riders/index.htm If you follow above link from within the main article you will find this pic: http://static4.consumerreportscdn.org/content/dam/cro/news_articles/cars/13_Venture_S_Silver_A8.jpg and it is next to the paragraph entitled: Don’t buy more bike than you can handle.
  17. Puc, how do you mount that bag to the tank?
  18. I don't see no slingshot!
  19. She's been trying to sell that one for a while now; I've seen it listed a few times, but this is the first time without a reserve price. Here's another one listed with no reserve. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-Royal-Star/221730182697?_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D29256%26meid%3De8c0ba44689b4f7db47e119778b56cf3%26pid%3D100033%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D221730182697
  20. I'm glad; looking forward to hearing that you are feeling good again!
  21. Ya that! Good thing the RSV is a tank and doesn't let a little wind push it around!
  22. Ours is finally almost all gone. Just remnants here and there of where the plowing made big piles!
  23. From there, I headed back through New Baltimore and stopped at Autozone to grab some stuff; look at what is directly across the street. I wonder why they always do that? Then, in Marine City I took Belle River Road along the water and stopped across from a cemetery. I must have been driven farther than I realized, because I found myself in (east)China! Time to head home, but not before finding a pic that is sort of a tribute to Eck: my bike in front of a dilapidated barn!
