  1. My mom doesn't read this forum so I had to go see her in person.
  2. So I was fiddling around with where to mount the My Garmin Nuvi 765T without getting a handlebar mount. I have actually had some success with using the suction cup on the tach guage of my Maxim and in the inside of my RSV windshield (with a tether wire in case it popped off, which it did once on each bike), but wanted to see if I could do better since my wife and I have hopes of two multi-day trips this summer. So here is my Cheap and Simple temporary Garmin GPS mounting method: There it is at the end of the red arrow, a firm but elastic Circular Retention Device. This single rubber ring is capable of mounting my Garmin to my RSV's open tape deck door. Open the door and loop the elastic band around the tape deck door, catching on the lip at the bottom of the door (that I am pointing to here): Note the protrusion on the bottom of the GPS cradle is perfectly sized to sit into the recessed area in the tape deck door, becoming an alignment tab which keeps the Garmin in place. Now loop the band over the top of the GPS cradle and it snugs the unit down and back, standing upright in the deck door. In this picture I am pulling the top of the GPS slightly forward so you can see where the band loops behind it. Now the GPS is in a perfect viewing position at the center of the gauge cluster and just below the sweeping retro style speedometer. And because it is tethered into a solid place, it won't move around when you are pushing on the touch screen. I have tried it on a 2 hour ride and I really like the position and the firmness of using this method. And it is easy enough to grab and go if you don't want to leave the GPS unattended on the bike.
  3. Thanks John, I will definitely let you know and would be eager to hook up with you somewhere local before heading out. What is the route you would take from your home base to the I-75 rally point?
  4. :biker::biker::biker: I might invite myself into this gang to tag along.....depends on some work stuff. But I really wanna!
  5. What did you do about the luggage rack? They don't come up on ebay very often lately. (Wish I coulda got the one for $129 a few weeks ago!) I just ordered one from Boats.net, $169.48 with free shipping. For what it is, that is more than I wanted to spend on it , but then again everything bike related is that way, right? That's the best I've been able to find on a genuine Yamaha rack.
  6. Ruh-roh! The "-" list is bigger than the "+" list so far.... So do you like the 2nd gen or are you trying to make yourself like it?
  7. Yeah, I want one!
  8. Haven't done my venture, but my XJ was like the bottom one. If that's the way it came out, that's the way I'd put the new one.
  9. Congrats 60622!
  10. A simple version of this is getting used to playing video games with the 'look' controls inverted (stick down is look up, stick up is look down) and then trying to play something with look controls standard......UUGGH!
  11. I took it apart and checked the spring. It was the heavier one, so that's not it. I checked the thickness of all the friction discs and they ranged from 2.93 to 2.99 mm. There are 8 discs total. Order of installation is first friction disc in against metal surface inside clutch, then metal plate, then second friction disc, metal plate, etc.....to final friction disc then the pressure plate, then the metal ring with the lip (spring housing), then the clutch spring, and the ring with the 6 bolts. If I double the springs, just to try it out, I would think I should put the thinner spring in first to give the other spring a better chance to catch on the lip of the spring housing. (Does the 2nd spring need to catch on the lip?) Do I line up the tabs of the two clutch springs or do I stagger them? Longer term, should I be thinking of ordering new friction plates or a heavier spring? Any comments on this?
  12. yes I was already planning to check the clutch spring and make sure that I didn't put in the old one… Pretty sure I didn't… Would you expect me to admit it here if I did? Lol i've only had the bike since September… Don't Know when fluid was last changed so I will look at it
  13. I will be measuring the discs then. Any insights on doubling the spring if I find the discs are within spec?
  14. No I didn't know to do that. Bike has 24,000 miles, is it likely the discs are worn out?
  15. I'm using Rotella T 15w-40 (fresh oil change at time of clutch upgrade....don't know what was in it before)
  16. PS. skydoc your PM bucket is full! So I have the clutch upgrade from Earl with the full disc and upgraded spring. From reading other posts, some who have done this upgrade experienced a very different 'feel' to the clutch that they had to get used to. Mine did not feel much different, and now that I have ridden a few times, both single and two-up, I am noticing that I again have slippage when I accelerate hard. Are there things I should be checking or adjusting? Is stacking the springs do-able if I still have the old one? (and how is it done?) Is the new gasket likely to be re-usable since it is still fairly fresh? thanks! Jim
  17. So vidAZ, was it you who won that one on ebay for $150? Anybody know of a better price for new ones than amazon ($175.33 shipped)? How about the Mutazu ones for $117 that look just like the Yamaha ones (minus the emblem and minus about $60)? If I can't find a deal on a used yam by June then I might try this one.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mutazu-Aftermarket-Royal-Star-Venture-Top-rack-for-Yamaha-Trunk-/231467427473?hash=item35e488a691&vxp=mtr
  18. Good find! Next?
  19. That's awesome! Congrats to you and your wife!
  20. It was a good bike but one thing I won't miss...... valves every 5,000 miles!
  21. Well, I dont know of any other 'Scott B' on the forum so the challenge had to go to you! (and how'd you get them to name the street after you, anyway?)
  22. I'll even escort you there!
