  1. Nice! What year is it? I see nice accessories. Can I have your trunk rack, passing lights, and driver backrest, please! Oh, and the cool front fender trim! Are those some kind of side marker lights on trunk? Unless I'm mistaken, the CB antenna is not on the same side as mine, might want to make sure it is hooked up correctly. I think I read before that that can damage the radio?

  3. Don, next time instead of a can of worms, try opening a can o WHOOPA**!

  5. So, how did you get the name BigLenny?
  6. That's very nice! (I should've figured you were going to do pics, sorry for the quick trigger)

  8. Good discussion going on here. There is an obvious consensus of respect towards Don here, and although I have not met him (yet) it seems well earned. At least the guy didn't stir up a firestorm and leave in a grandstanding way; he just went away. People go to new paths sometimes. Kudos to Don for caring enough to notice and reaching out. It says more about Don than anything he might have posted to objectively point out the "plusses and minuses" of one bike or another. It is logical that, because Yam has discontinued the Venture, that eventually more and more people here will have to change their ride. If you have the means and desire to have a new bike every few years, then you will not be on a Yamaha Venture very much longer. Not everyone will be like me, willing to ride an old bike. Then again, it might be boring if everyone was like me. I think that this site will be the place for me as long as there is a subset of active posters who are discussing the same bike I ride. If everyone else had something else and there wasn't any Venture discussion? It would be diminished but I don't know to what degree. I guess it could depend on the strength of friendships created at the Rides, MD's and Meets. So it's interesting to ponder what this site will be like in the years to come.
  9. Nice, MM, your pics make me say MMMMMM! Especially the second one; has two of my favorite things: motorcycle and chicken/barbeque!
  10. 8-track (most of you know what those are, right? )
  11. PICS!!!! Here's my '79 Special. Fairing with lowers, radio, Full Luggage, Heel-toe, floorboards. Bought as seen in pics, it had been sitting for 7 years. I rebuilt the carbs, changed the oil, and it runs, but i still have to go through everything else when I get a round tuit. Haven't ridden it yet. When I get it on the road I won't razz any '1st gen' owners. (Or shall we say gen 1.1?)

    Whine?

Whine? What is this 'whine' so many of you speak of? I think I don't have a whine to whine about. Really, none. Unless I'm deaf. But I don't think so. If I had it, I would know it, right? I think I musta got a good one? What does it sound like? Anybody have audio?
  16. Hey Puc! I am enjoying the tale; thank you for posting. I even showed it to my wife and she really liked it too. But I dunno if it is having the intended effect for us. Is it supposed to help us get through the winter blahs or wind us up and give us that "can't wait for summer" feeling? And I'll say a prayer for your medical stuff again too!
  17. I think knowing that PO only had it a month should not really matter. I would evaluate it with the same degree of scrutiny as any other used bike, and make your decision based on what the bike tells you from inspecting it and riding it. You have the advantage of being familiar with the platform and as a member here with access to all the combined wisdom and experiences posted on these forums; you know what to look out for. And due to the amount you are considering spending pull the title history. It is fun to speculate why he only had it a month tho! My theory (knowing that he only had it for a month and traded it in on a Harley, and with the antennas on the wrong sides) would be he pulled the trunk to get the bagger look and then mixed up the antennas when he put it back on before trading it in. Or maybe it fell into his lap and he simply flipped it. Or maybe there was a problem, which is why you will inspect and ride it until you find it or are satisfied that there isn't a problem after all!

  20. Skating rink, huh? Around here there's a municipal park that floods the outdoor basketball court for the winter. Kids skate and play hockey on it. If I can get it I will.... but we are rain/sleet/snow for a few days then very very cold so will probably be at least a week before I try.
  21. Good thing he reacted to the swelling as a signal of something wrong, before things took a turn for the worse.
  22. That's me, and my wife Kathryn. I couldn't put up a picture of just me; it would be incomplete. (like me without her!)
  23. Whenever I need to fix anything I look for a forum or visit "YouTube University" But I bet those refrigerator forum guys aren't as cool as us!
  24. I think people will pay to ride shotgun with you!
