  1. Tina and I look forward to this every year, looks like the weekend of the 20th might be the only one that I would be able to get off work to attend. Ron

    Asheville 2020

Tina and I are hoping to attend this year also. They are coming around asking for our vacation request at work so hopefully the dates will be set soon so I can request the right dates. Looking forward to attending this event. Ron
  4. My cruise only works in 5th gear also, but I wouldn't change back. Much better pulling a trailer and really like it riding the twisties. Ron
  5. Sorry to hear this, our thoughts and prayers are with you both. It is a big shock, we found my dad on his bathroom floor on the eleventh of this month, fortunately we got him to the hospital and he was able to be released two days before Christmas. Ron
  6. If you pull the carbs apart to clean them, the only way to get cleaner and air through the passages leading to the air cutoff circuit is to depress the small ball that the rod on the diaphragm presses on. I just used the old cutoff diaphragm that I was replacing to depress it when I cleaned mine. Ron
  7. Tina and I are doing well, still riding the 99 venture and loving it. I'm usually on the forum a few times a week and must say this is a great forum and great bunch of members. Looking forward to the venturerider events that we can attend next year. Everyone stay say and enjoy the wind therapy. Ron
  8. So sorry to hear this. You and your family will be in our prayers to get through this very tough time. Ron
  9. Rather than start a new thread I will just post here. As many of you know I purchased a second 99 venture to replace the one that was totalled last year and have been struggling with a exhaust popping no matter what tuning I did to the bike. I completely rebuilt the carbs, installed coil over plugs replaced the air filters and spark plugs and checked for exhaust leaks. I even bought a gunson gastester to adjust the carb idle mixture screws with co%. I set all four carbs to 3% and then did a carb sync and the popping was still there. I really didn't want to plug the ais because I believe it does give indication of problems, but as a last resort I went ahead and plugged it. The popping was gone but the bike still had a rich smell. Today I decided to recheck the co% with the ais plugged and sure enough both ais valves were leaking. The front was leaking worse than the rear but both were leaking allowing air into the exhaust continually. With the ais plugged the fronts now registered 10% co and the rears registered 7% co. I retuned the carbs to the 3% co witch required the rears to be turned I over one turn in and the fronts closer to two turns in. I will update performance and fuel mileage when I get a chance to run it because it is currently raining. Just thought I would post this to let everyone know that it is possible for the ais to be bad. The bike only had 47,000 on it when I bought it, so it sat quite a bit before I purchased it and I'm sure that possibly contributed to the ais going bad. Ron
  10. When I had issues with my bike going into a death wobble I tore the steering head apart and my bearings showed a lot of denting Marks. I replaced them and the swing arm bearing to start with new bearings and bike handled great afterwards. Glad you made it home safe. Ron
  11. Wish we could have made it, he was a great guy R.I.P. Ron and Tina
  12. So sad to hear this, he will be greatly missed. Glad we had a pleasure of knowing Bob. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Becky and the family for comfort at this very hard time. Ron and Tina
  13. So sorry to hear this, will continue to keep Bob and Becky in our prayers. Ron
  14. Sorry to hear this, prayers that the tests will reveal a solution to this. Ron
  15. Tina and I pulled in about 1:20 this afternoon safe and dry. Thanks Don and Eileen for hosting this weekend we had a great time, enjoyed catching up with some old friends and making some new friends. Ron and Tina
  16. Sorry for your loss, our prayers are with you and your family. Ron
  17. Sorry to hear about this, prayers for a speedy recovery. Ron
  18. I purchased a kit from a member on the v-max forum who makes the conversion kits. The coils I received in the kit were Denso 129700-5100. It has been raining so I have only been able to start it to make sure the connections were proper. Bike seems to start quicker than before. Still waiting to ride it to confirm how good it runs on the road. Ron
  19. Thanks for the replies, got everything installed and it fired right up. Raining today so I will have to take a ride to try it out later this week. Ron
  20. Getting ready to convert my 1999 venture to coil over plug, I need to confirm that the red wire on each coil is the positive side of the coil. Thanks Ron
  21. I have a complete stereo system from my 1999, I removed it and installed a marine grade blue-tooth. Message me if your interested. Ron
  22. Glad to hear that you are okay, good luck with the insurance. Ron
  23. Here is a close up of the bracket. I didn't have a way to make the necessary bends so I made 3 tabs to weld on the top plate of the floorboard cover. One tab has a hole that aligns with the rear mounting bolt of the floorboard, the second one fits against the front of the floorboard and the third on bolts the arm to the assembly. I then aligned it with the floorboard and drilled down through the plate and floorboard and put a stainless steel bolt down through it to secure the front of the plate. Ron
  24. Finally settled up with the insurance after the deer hit us and totalled my 99 Venture. Thanks to Dave for the heads up on another 99 Venture for sale, was surprised with the condition and less than 48,000 miles. Brought it home today before the rain started and began transferring necessary parts to make it comfortable enough to ride the rest of this season. Will make it ours over the winter. Here are a few pictures of the way I bought it. Ron
  25. I guess the heading is misleading, it was about 7:00 PM and still plenty light out when it happened .
