  1. I was going to take the saddlebags off my bike so I could give it a good cleaning. When I went to take the saddlebag off the left side (sitting on the bike it is the left bag) the bolt on the top left wouldn't come loose. I broke the allen wrench trying to get the bolt out. After several attempts the bolt head is rounded off. Looking at the diagram for an 05 venture I can't determine which bolt this is. Can any of you tell me the number of this bolt? Also, how can I get this bolt out now that the head is rounded off? Thanks for your help.

    WTF?!?

I like the look and sound of the harley and before I bought my 05 venture in Sept 05 I went to buy an electra glide ultra classic. It was the most beautiful blue and white color I had seen. I looked and looked at the bike at our local harley dealership and was begging for someone to come over and talk to me about the bike but no one did. I went home and told my wife I had found the bike we needed. Two days later my wife and I went to the harley dealership to look at the ultra classic. We walked around the bike and kept looking at people at the dealership walk past us. No one ever even gave us a hello. We walked out and never went back. We had a friend that has an o4 venture and he let us ride it so we bought a venture. I don't like to get into bashing the reliability of the harleys because I have had more trouble with my venture than most people have with their harleys, but this is a funny story I have to tell you. This spring during bike week in Daytona Willie G. Davidson and the head engineer of harley davidson were coming through on the way to Daytona. One afternoon I was at a local bike shop where a lot of us hang out sometime. One of my harley friend's cell phone rang and he hung up the phone and said " hey everyone, Willie G. is at the harley dealership, he was coming through Albany on the way to Daytona and his bike broke down." Anyone want to ride to the harley dealership and see Willie G., and he almost knocked the door down headed to the dealership. Word spread around town and people swamped the harley dealer. I thought what bad advertising for harley, when even Willie G's bike won't make it to Daytona without breaking down. Another friend of mine that has a fat boy got word and went to the dealership. He said Wille G and the engineer were asking everyone how they liked their harleys. My friend told the engineer that his bike had pulled to the left since it was new. The engineer rode the bike and came back and said yep it pulls to the left and told my friend to cut some metal stock a certain length and put it in the front fork. My friend said he was hoping harley to do something to correct it. I was seriously considering selling or trading my bike for an Ultra Classic but I have talked to a few people that say it runs too hot. Who knows. If yamaha could correct the whine of the transmission I would be satisfied with my venture and would buy another one someday.
  3. Rode my bike today with and without my wife on the back. The bike handles better but I switching back to the stock links. My wife said the ride was ruff and she felt more vibration and wind. The ride is too ruff. If anyone wants a set of leveling links, make me an offer.
  4. I haven't been able to ride my bike this weekend but the ride from work friday was bad. It was like riding in a two horse wagon and my pants bunched up in the back because I was leaning forward. I am going to let the air out of the rear shock tomorrow and ride some to see if I will get used to it.
  5. As I ride the bike more I'm sure I will get used to the leveling links but for now it seems a lot higher. I put the back tire on a 1" piece of wood before ordering the links and I couldn't really tell any difference. But riding with the links it feels different. It just something you have to get used to.
  6. Received the leveling links last week. Diamond R is good to do business with. Installed them this morning and just drove about 5 miles to office. Feels like I am sitting on an elephant. Will find out later how it handles.
  7. Yamaha sent a factory tech from Titusville, Fl to here in May. He checked the rear swing arm and said a needle bearing was bad and replaced it. He also replaced the rear shock and drive shaft and disassembled the rear end and re-greased and reinstalled it. So, all that has been done.
  8. Hey V7 Goose, The rear end problem and clutch basket problem is a problem with many ventures. Maybe not as much trouble as mine but if you look at the previous threads you will see that yamaha has a problem and can't or won't do what needs to be done to correct it. Many guys on this forum have even said they are switching to another brand of bike. My venture was flawless for 16,000 miles and then all of a sudden I have the clutch basket whine and bad rear diffs. I talked to a service manager by the name of Al Harper at the star exhibit in Myrtle Beach this spring and even he said there was a problem with the rear ends of the ventures. Any manufacturer can have an unexpected problem but this one has been going on more than one year and needs to be addressed. This is my third and last yamaha. I think I will go with the harley electra glide ultra classic next. I really like the 08.
  9. I have posted several times in the past about the trouble I have had with the rear end of my 05 venture. Yamaha replaced the rear diff three times within about 2,000 miles. I had already had the rear diff replaced once before that. I left my bike at the dealer saturday for the 24,000 mile service. The service manager just called and said the rear pinyon was worn out so yamaha is sending another rear diff and a new drive shaft. What's up with the rear ends with these bikes? This will be the fourth rear diff within about 8,000 miles.
  10. Thanks for the replies. How do I find the tech article by Freebird? I've looked and can't find. Thanks
  11. I just ordered a venture dad hitch. Roy said to use a standard boat trailer 5 pin flat rubber connector wiring kit that you can get from most auto parts stores. A friend of mine has a trailer he pulls with his goldwing and said I can use it anytime to get the feel of pulling a trailer before I buy one. I thought this is great. My wife and I are going on a trip next week so this will be a good time to pull a trailer. But my friend says he has a 4 pin connector with a 5th wire added. I also saw on a thread this morning on the hopkins hoppy trailer kit which it says is a 4-way flat connector. What should I do to wire my venture for a trailer. I am confused, however it doesn't take much to confuse me. Thanks.
  12. Hey Mini-Muffin, My wife and I would be interested. Keep me posted. We have been through Ashville three times in the past two years and let me tell you, you need to have reservations in advance to get a room anywhere. All three times every place within miles was booked up. The last time we went was in June of this year. We started on the blue ridge parkway in Cherokee NC and got off in Asheville around 4:30pm. We drove for miles stopping at every motel and asking for a room. We finally got to some place in Tennessee around 8:00pm and they had a room and it was 150.00 per night. We said if we ever go to North Carolina again we will make plans ahead of time as to where we will stay.
  13. Sorry gibvel, I mispelled your name.
  14. Hey givbel, I run 38 psi in my front tire and 40 in rear.
  15. I have 22,000 miles on my bike and have never had a problem with the front end wobbling. I have appox 4,000 miles on a set of metzlers. Last weekend was riding to north carolina and took both hands off the handle bars to adjust my helmet and got the crap scared out of me. The handle bars started wobbling badly and I thouhgt I was going to lose it. I have never had this problem before.
  16. When I purchased my bike new in Sept 05 it had the whine around 50mph, but if I went below or over 50 it went away. No problem, I can work around that. I was on my way to bike week in daytona this spring and the whine started at 30mph and got louder as I got faster until at 70mph it was unbearable. I went by one of the guys riding with me and he heard the whine. I had approx 17,000 mile on the bike. The dealer put the I basket in and the whine went completely away but started coming back and now it starts at about 40 mph and gets louder as you get faster. It is unbearable and I shouldn't have to put up with this. This is my first and last venture. As someone said on this site, yamaha said they didn't care about the current customers only the potential customers, well yamaha better change that attitude or they won't have may current customers. I can't believe that don't understand repeat cutomers.
  17. I have an 05 RSV and I have never had anything so frustrating as the whine and rear end noise. I love the comfort and performance of my bike but can't take the noise. I had the I basket installed at approx 18,000 miles and the whine went completely away. The last week in June my wife and I rode to the North Carolina mountains. We wore our shorty helmets so we used ear plugs. The only noise I could hear was the whine of the transmission. I now have 22,000 miles and the whine has come back and starts at 40 mph and gets louder as you go faster. This past weekend my wife and I rode to the North Carolina mountains again and this time we wore our 3/4 helmets so we could use the intercom. I was so disappointed that all I could hear was the whine of the transmission. The ride would have been perfect if it hadn't been for the whine. When I would go down a hill and didn't have to have any throttle and there was no whine it was so pleasant. I can't believe yamaha hasn't eliminated this problem. If I could trade I would do it in a heartbeat, but I financed the bike and am too upside down to trade. As far as suing yamaha, it would be almost impossible. Attorney's want a case where they can possibly get a large settlement. If you sued and won how much could you collect for damages for a loud transmission noise? Probably not much. Also, yamaha has corporate attorneys on salary that could keep you in court for years and cost you a fortune in attorney fees before anything was done. If yamaha can't solve the whine I will never buy a venture again. Eddie Hall
  18. Hey Midsrv, How long have you had your unigo and are you satisfied with it. I had just about decided on the uigo but a friend on mine that rides a goldwing said a lot of the wingers had trouble with the fiberglass cracking on the unigo and they hadn't gotten very good customer service from unigo. I have been on the wing web site but haven't seen anyone mention problems with the unigo so it could just be rumor. Thanks.
  19. Hey RSTDinPA, Hope you don't have anymore problems with the whine, but you are right not to be too optimistic. I had an I basket at approx 17000 miles on my 05 RSV. The whine went completely away, until last week at approx 20,000 miles. It's not whinning as loud as before but it seems to be getting worse the more I drive.
  20. I do what clearview recommends. I soak a towel in warm water and put the towel on the windshield for apprx 5 minutes. When you remove the towel almost all of the bugs will be gone. If you spray any kind of cleaner on the shield while the bugs are on it the dried bugs will scratch the shield. I then spray with pledge and wipe clean. You should never use paper towels on a cycle shield.
  21. Hey Jethroish, I had this problem last November and made several post about it. I even talked to the Regional Service Manager with Yamaha and he called and talked to the service manager at my dealer. It is a common problem but the regional service manager said it wouldn't do any damage to drive the bike. Anytime anyone does any work on the rear end even just changing the rear tire the splines need to be re greased.
  22. We use frogg toggs. The best place to order them is www.outdoorboss.com. You can get them new for 39.95. I ordered on a friday and received them on monday. Their service is excellent. After use I repackage them with our food saver. It will shrink them down in a compact package that doesn't take up much room.
  23. Hey Marcarl, I talked to the regional service manager with yamaha and the only thing yamaha says can be done is to grease the splines when you change your tire. He said over time the spinning of the splines throws the grease off them.
  24. Hey bobo, Where did you get the tailblazer? Thanks
  25. Hey Juggler, I have looked at these pants in catalogs and like their looks. One question. Can you wear these over your regular pants or are they made to be the only pants you wear with them?
