The weekend before last I rode to bike week in Daytona with a few of my buddies. One of them had an 04 0r 05 American Ironhorse Chopper. He went to a few harley dealers to trade it for a new ultra classic. The highest offer he got from any of the local harley dealers was $15,000 which is how much he owed on his chopper. He went to Rossmeyer harley davidson in daytona and looked at an 08 anniversary edition ultra classic. He told the salesman if they would give him 20,000 for his chopper he would give them 27,000 out the door for the ultra classic. He rode home with the ultra classic.

Whether a harley dealer will take a trade in on a metric depends on the dealer. Our dealer here is Albany, Ga. used to run you out of the parking lot if you mentioned trading a metric bike. They have changed and now will take a metric on trade but will only allow you the wholeale value.

I put metzelers on my bike at 18,000 miles and at 24,000 the rear is cupped so bad it feels like you are riding on knobby tires. I run 40 lbs rear and 38 front. The service manager at the dealership said to run 42 rear and 40 front. The tires have good tread but I think I am going to have to replace them because my wife is feeling vibration when she rides. The tires handle good and are quiet when going straight. If I lean left or right they make a whinning noise. I don't think I will use metzs again.

This weekend I rode my bike to Panama City Florida which is about 170 miles. I wore my shorty helmet so I used ear plugs. Even with the ear plugs all I could hear was the screaming whine of the transmission. I was so disgusted with the whine that I went by the Honda dealer saturday to see about trading for a gold wing. They had a beautiful pearl white wing. I like the styling, the storage space, and the lights on the rear but I just don't feel comfortable. Oh how I wish yamaha could do something to stop the screaming whine. If it wasn't for the whine I would be compeletly happy with the venture. It's a shame to have something like the whine spoil the enjoyment of the venture.

Insurance companies are constantly fighting for market share and revising their rates. Sometimes when a company realizes they can lower their rates its quicker and easier for them to start a new program. They will freeze the old program and start placing all new business in the new program at a lower rate. They won't tell you about the new program with the lower rate so you have to find out for yourself. Here in Georgia it takes the insurance department forever to approve a rate increase or decrease so the insurance companies will just start a new program. I have many people that come to me that have been with Progressive for a long time and I re-write them with Progressive at a lower rate. It's hard to explain this to people but that is the way it is.

You just need to get quotes from several companies because it will vary from company to company. Some companies like different bikes and different age groups. I can only speak for Georgia as far as rates but the rating principles are the same for all states. Here is the most extreme example I have experienced. I had a guy in his fifties, his wife and an 18 year old son that each had harleys. The 18 year old has just purchased an 07 electra glide ultra. He is probably the only 18 year old that ever purchased a bagger. They were currently with the harley davidson insurance agency with foremost insurance company and their premium was going up to $2,800 per year with the 07 ultra. I have six companies I use to insure motorcycles and here is how the rates stacked up. Safeco 6,700, American Reliable 6,000, Dairlyland 2,400, Progressive 2,200, Nationwide 2,000 and American Modern Home 1,700. You wouldn't think there would be this much difference. The rates for the venture are higher than most other bikes. I just insured an 07 harley ultra classic screaming eagle for 340.00 per year. I have an 05 venture and when the insurance was up for renewal in february I got quotes from every company I could find, even some that I don't represent. I carry 100/300/50 liability, 100/300/50 uninsured motorist, 10,000 med pay, 250 deductible for comprehensive and collision and roadside assistance. GMAC through rider magazine 1,100, Bike Line 1,200, Progressive 900, GEICO, I wouldn' insure with them if they gave it to me, 750.00, AIG 506.00, American Modern Home 400.00. I find that most agents when asked for a quote just go to Progressive and don't shop the market. I would find an agent that knows motorycles and get multiple quotes and make sure you have adequate coverage. Don't cut corners to save 40 or 50 dollars per year. If you have a claim you will be glad you had proper coverage.

The new harleys look good and after looking at them I thought I might want one but I have changed my mind. I recently insured an 08 screaming eagle ultra classic. It comes with everything you can put on a bike. Heated grips, heated seats, alarm, the saddle bags and trunk automatically lock when you switch the ignition off. It is a pretty bike and my insured paid $38,000.00 for the bike. It was running so hot his wife couldn't stand to ride on the back so he had to take it to an independent racing machanic to install something that makes it run richer. The bike also has an oil leak that they can't seem to correct. Harley is also having some transmission problems with the new 6 speed. This is not the only person I know that is having problems with the engine running hot. My wife and I sat on an ultra classic. She felt very cramped on the back and my leg was against the left housing cover. When the bike is hot it will burn your leg. Harley still has a way to go.

Hey Beer30, Thanks for the info.

I have been told there is a bike rally this weekend at Fontana Dam but I can't get any information. Do any of you know anything about this? Thanks

Be glad you weren't insured with the lizard. They would offer you a settlement and if you weren't satisified they would say "Go home and read your policy." I talked to someone that actually had that happen to them.

A friend of mine has a 99 venture and has the Kromewerks pipes. They don't sound loud to me. Just a deep rumble.

I sat on one of these in Myrtle Beach this spring and saw one saturday at thunder beach, Panama City, Fl. It is probably a very comfortable ride but I wouldn't buy one because I don't like the way it looks As far as dependability I don't think there is a better bike than the victory. A friend of mine that lives in Dawsonville, Ga, not far from you is on his second victory. I don't believe any bike would hold up to the hard riding he did on his first victory. He was hit by a car and totaled it. He says he has hurt the feelings of many harley riders by blowing them off the road. I rode with him last weekend and he said he had his bike up to 135 mph and still had throttle. It holds six quarts of oil and has an oil cooler to keep the operating temperature down. He had a harley a few years ago and it wasn't reliable. He said he stopped where a group of harley riders with an attitude were and one of them said he was a harley wannabe. He said no, I am a harley has been and there are only two bikes mentioned in the bible. Victory and Triumph. What can I say.

I rode my brother in law's valykrie before I bought my venture. It is quieter with its stock pipes than my venture. It has a whine as you accelerate as do all bikes with a drive shaft. If you rode my bike you would change your tune. It isn't just the normal whine of a drive shaft it screams when you get to 65 to 70 mph. You can't hear the engine running because of the screaming whine. I have been riding bikes since I was 15 years old and am now 56. I know the difference between a normal whine and a scream. You need to experience the screaming whine before you start giving me your unsubstaniated theory.

After reading this post I need some help. I went on aerostitch.com and they show a Chatterbox earspeaker adapter # 3857. I have a chatterbox system. I also saw the intercom system adapter #3900 which is the 1/8" adapter plug mentioned here. I called aerostitch but the person I talked with didn't know what I was talking about. Does anyone know what the #3857 does and would it be better than #3900? Also if I buy the adapter # 3900 do I need two, one for me and one for passenger? Thanks, Eddie Hall

Bikebandit is an endorsed vendor by AMA. I would contact them and let them know about the poor service. Even if you're not a member of AMA I would let them know.

would you buy a RSV again?
ediddy replied to stvmaier's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If I had to make a decision today I would say no. I bought my 05 September 3, 2005 and have 25,000 miles on it. The bike would be perfect if it wasn't for the whine and problems with the rear end. I am on my 4th rear end since 16,000 miles and have had the clutch basket replaced. The whine has come back and is as loud as ever. It would be the perfect bike if it wasn't for these issues. -

Need help finding saddlebag bolt
ediddy replied to ediddy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks to all of you that replied to my request for help with saddlebag bolts. Yesterday I ordered the bolts from McMaster-Carr and just received them from UPS. I just knew that had charged me for overnight delivery but the invoice shows only $4.25 for shipping. Again thanks to all of you for your help. I'm always amazed at the quality of people on this site. Eddie Hall -
I saw their demonstration in Daytona this spring. It is good information but I don't believe they could maneuver a second gen venture like they do the road kings. You can practicely lay the road king down on its side and keep riding, but the venture is so top heavy it will fall. I would like to see them ride a venture in their demonstration.
