Hey Dandy1, I just got my 05 RSV back from the dealer saturday. The fuel pump went bad. I went on a 1,100 mile trip with no problem. Parked bike for 2 days and when I started to work I got one block and it died. Kept trying and it finally started and ran fine. I went on a 550 mile trip the next weekend with no problem. Parked at home and 2 days later started bike and it wouldn't start unless full choked. When it started if you gave it any throttle it would die. Finally wouldn't start at all. I trailered it to the dealer. Don't try loading a venture on a trailer without power. The dealer checked the spark and electrical and all ok. The mechanic tapped on the fuel pump and it started. Dealer replaced fuel pump under warranty. Before taking to the dealer I sprayed the ignition with wd 40 and took the fuel hose off the petcock. Gas poured out. I would try tapping on the fuel pump and see if it will start. Like someone said if you don't hear the fuel pump ticking a few seconds when you turn on the ignition that is a sure sign it is the fuel pump. Good luck.

That's good. The ride was better than my ride up Mt Mitchell two years ago. When we got to the ranger station the wind was blowing and the rain mist was almost sleet. I thought I was going to freeze to death. We didn't go any farther and started down. I was behind my brother in law who was on a gold wing. I couldn't see his tail light or the road. I had to look around the windshield and look for the white line. We we got back down the mountain the sun was shinning. I want to go back again when the weather is better.

One on my insureds pulls an aluma trailer with his goldwing. A car slammed on the brakes in front of him and he went down. Totaled the wing and did minor damage to the trailer. He had rode rash and a few bruises. The goldwing didn't stop him from going down.

My best friend since the first grade in school, rides a harley. He was at a rally and walked by a guy talking about his yamaha. The yamaha rider said, " and it sounds just like a harley". My friend said, I've never hear anyone say, "hey my harley sounds just like a yamaha".

Today I picked up my bike from the dealer. Has a new fuel pump installed. I asked the parts manager when the 09's would be out. He said septmeber 9. I mentioned the rumors about the venture. He said he moved to Tallahassee, Florida from Wisconsin. Said he worked for a yamaha dealership in Wisconsin for 14 years and was in sales. He said he doubts there will be a venure in 09. I'm just repeating what he said but he said yamaha sold less than 1700 ventures in 2007. I asked if he meant 17,000 and he said no 1700. The dealership got 2 ventures per year and he said he always sold them as soon as they got them but yamaha doesn't seem to care about the venture. He doesn't think there will be another venture at all in the future. Time will tell.

I used to knock harleys and say they are inferior. I can't say that anymore. My friends that own harleys are riding while my venture is in the shop. Everytime I meet my harely friends they ask me "isn't it time for another rear end." I just laught and say, no it hasn't been 5,000 miles since the last one. It's been in the shop for two weeks now waiting for a fuel pump. The harely riders are riding while I am in the shop. I've had the shock replaced, I basket, 5 rear ends, radio replaced and now the fuel pump. All my friends that bought harleys haven't had any problems.

Something strange going on with my bike

Thanks for all the suggestions. Took bike to dealer last week because it finally got where it wouldn't start at all. It was time for the 36,000 mile service so I left it for the service and to find why it wouldn't start. It was the fuel pump. Mechanic said spark plugs were black which was probably from trying to get it to start will full choke so they replaced the plugs but still wouldn't start. Tapped on the fuel pump and it started right up. They are ordering a new fuel pump. -
MM Venture - Will not Run - Help

Just got a call from the dealer. The full pump is bad, thats why my bike won't run. When the mechanic tapped on the fuel pump it started right up. They have ordered a fuel pump but don't know how long it will take to get it. -
Hey veep1, I have an 05 rsv and the chirp was bad. My dealer replaced the clutch basket with the I basket and the chirp and whine is completely gone. With some bikes it just changes the rpms where you hear the chirp and some say it doesn't make any change. I don't understand why but it is something yamaha needs to correct.

MM Venture - Will not Run - Help
ediddy replied to MMVenture's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Hey MMVenture, I have had the same problem with my 05. Took it to the dealer last week and left it so they can deal with the problem. Will let you know what the problem was. After a long ride I would let my bike set for a few days and when I started to ride again it wouldn't start unless I gave it full choke. It wouldn't take any throttle. I put seafoam in each time and it would finally start and run ok until I let it set up for a few days. The last time it did this it wouldn't start at all. You can look up my post "strange things going on with my bike." I sprayed the ignintion switch with WD40 but that didn't help. I took the fuel line from the petcock and gas poured out of the petcock. I think the fuel pump isn't working. The dealer said it could be a relay switch going to the fuel pump. I should hear from the dealer by tuesday or wednesday. Will let you know the problem. Oh, by the way. Loading a venture onto a trailer without power is not easy. -
Hey Juggler, I haven't tried these passenger floorboards but have been interested in them. A friend on mine has a gold wing and kuryakin makes a pair that are excellent but they don't make them for the venture. Let me know if you like them and I will order a set. Thanks

When ya'll said you sprayed WD4 on the ignition are you talking about spraying it on the ignition switch where the key goes in? Thanks. -
If yamaha goes with FI I hope they don't have the heat problem the harleys have. To comply with EPA the 07 and 08 harleys are running so lean they will cook the passenger. The venture is already hot enough.

Any word if 2009 Venturer will be EFI?
ediddy replied to frogmaster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
No one knows. It's all speculation, although I do enjoy the specualtion. I don't own a harley but I was so excited to see the 09s on the web site yesterday but then disappointed. On the harley tech talk site there were people who knew higher ups in the engineering department that said there was going to be a water cooled engine and all kind of other changes. But, there were no significant changes, mostly frame changes on the touring class. Now I am waiting for september to see what the 09 venture looks like. -
The company harley bought is MV Augusta. I've never head of this company.
-
We will know next week as the 09s will be out then. I was on the harley tech talk site a few minutes ago and one person said this: I've got all the scoop from a firend who is top engineer with the MoCo but I'm sworn to secrecy. You will be amazed at the direction the MoCo is going in 09 which is just a stepping stone for 10 and 11 when the bulk of the changes will take effect. The MoCo as we know it will not be the same. Some will see this a huge improvement and others, especially the old-schoolers, will likely shun HD forever. Harley bought out a european motorcycle company that makes some 190hp engines (liquid cooled). Maybe they will stab one those 4 cylinders into a bagger and call it a Road Rage.

I have been hearing speculation that the 09 harleys may have a water cooled enigne in the road king or ultra classic. Anyone heard anything?

I rode the parkway last friday. I agree, the section from Asheville to Cherokee is the best section and after riding that much of the parkway I was ready to get off. I rode the Cherohala Skyway saturday and enjoyed it more than the parkway. By the way, I met a red venture on the parkway friday. Was it anyone here? Be careful. Two weeks ago I was on the harley tech talk site and someone that lives a few miles from the blue ridge parkway said a guy from New Jersey got killed on the parkway. They think he was looking at the scenery and ran into the side of the mountain.

Yes, you can hear the fuel pump running when you switch the bike on. -

Thanks for the suggestions. Royalstarjac, how could it be the ignition switch if putting sea foam in makes it crank and run? -
I posted about this problem several weeks ago. One time my bike died going down the street. Two other times it died while idling. Each time it wouldn't crank unless you gave it full choke and would only run on two cylinders and would die if you gave it any throttle. This past weekend I rode to North Carolina and put over 1,000 miles on the bike. I took a can of sea foam with me because everytime it has died I added sea foam it cranked up and ran fine. On the way home from north carolina I ran it down to almost empty before I filled up just to see if something was in the bottom of the tank. It ran fine. I filled up 45 miles from home and the bike ran fine. I parked it in the garage until this morning when I got it out to ride to work. It cranked fine and ran until I was about one block from home and died. At first it would crank with full choke and run for awhile and die. It finally wouldn't crank at all. I put about 1/2 of the can of sea foam in and it still wouldn't crank. I finally put the whole can of sea foam in and shook the tank to stir the gas and sea foam. It cranked and is nowing running fine. What do you think this could be? If I take it to the shop they will tell me they can't find anything unless it isn't cranking when I get it to them.

My wife and I rode the Nazhez Trace memorial day weekend. We rode 1450 miles. We got gas in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee. On the way home I thought I felt a surge every now and then but figured it was my imagination. We got home on may 26 and parked the bike. On may 28 I rode to work and on the way home the bike died on me in the middle of town. I had to stop in the turn lane and when the traffic was clear I pushed it across the street into the driveway of a service station. All electrical was working but it wouldn't start. I waited several minutes and kept trying until it finally started but it was skipping. If finally cleared up and I rode it home. I bought a can of sea foam I was going to put it in later. I didn't ride again until June 3 when I was going to ride to Tallahassee to leave it with the dealer. Started out the driveway on June 3 and bike died again. I had just a little more than a quarter tank of gas. I finally got the seafoam and added half of the can. Bike started right up. Stopped at gas station and filled up and put the rest of sea foam in tank. Didn't ride bike again until yesterday. Started bike and let it idle while I checked the air in the rear shock. Bike went dead. Would only start with full choke and if you gave it throttle it would die. Had a little less than quarter tank of gas. Went to auto parts store and got another can of sea foam. Put half of the can in and bike started immediately. Filled up with gas and put the rest of sea foam in. What do you think is causing this? Thanks

I saw this last night on the harley tech talk site. As one guy said, this dude hit the outlaws; he has more problems to worry about than having seizures.
