  1. Having type 2 diabetes I have to exercise. I have been using a schwinn airdyne for a couple of years. When I do 30 minutes on the airdyne keeping my heart rate at around 118, this is the rate for maximum fat burning at my age, I burn approx 200 calories. I can't do more than 30 minutes on the airdyne because that is all my butt can stand. A few weeks ago I bought a gold gym's ellipitical. I saw it on home shopping newtwork for $399.00 which is a good price for the one I bought. There is a pre programmed workout on the elliptical for maximum weight loss. If I do it with my heart rate at 118 I burn 500 calories. On the airdyne I had to really work to get my heart rate up to 118 but on the elliptical I have to slow down to keep my heart rate at 118. It will get up to 125 before I get going good. When you exercise you need to keep a check on your heart rate and find what your target rate is for your age. I have been pleased with the elliptical.
  2. I have ridden it twice. Won't do it again. I like the Cherohala Skyway much better.
  3. I know there was a thread on this in 08 but just wondering if anyone has diabetes, does it affect your riding, how do you handle it?
  4. Hey Bummer, If you were hear I would kiss you. Not!!! What you said is so true. For years people looked at their coverage to see if it was what they needed and then looked at the price. Today it is all about the price. Most people don't even know what they have. We have been bombarded with, call the lizard and save 15%. Then progressive and all the other companies started advertising, call us, customers saved over $500 switching to us. Call us and tell us what you can pay each month and we will give you coverage.
  5. Hey Footsie, Glad your friend is OK. It could have been bad. Two years ago a guy came in my office who had just purchased a new VTX1800. I would see him riding all the time. His widow came in one monday morning and told me he hit a deer that saturday. He was killed instantly. The police report showed he skidded about 30 feet before hitting the deer. The bike was on the left side of the road and the deer was on the right side of the road. Hitting a deer is one of my biggest fears. As far as reporting the accident, yes you should, however I have experienced many insurance claims where the incident wasn't reported and the insurance company paid the claim. As long as you can substantiate what happend the claim will be paid. In your friend's case it wouldn't be a problem proving he hit a deer.
  6. Eck, you may be right but I have the same problem mentioned. Ponch saw this on my shield at maintenance day. Two of mine are completely broken. Ponch glued the one that was broken then but it has since broken again.
  7. You can do a search titled "getting the wind off you knees" and you will get the thread where BuddyRich makes and sells the wind blockers. Right now I think it is on page 18 or 19.
  8. I bought the blockers from buddy rich. The velcro on the left one sticks fine but I can't get the right one to stick. I almost lost it riding home from work yesterday. Any suggestions?
  9. Every 2nd gen venture has this same problem. The replacement you get from the dealer will do the same thing. VGoose has a fix for this problem.
  10. Hey CMIKE, What are those two black things that have a screw in the side of them?
  11. A few years ago I had a kidney stone and had the procedure to blast it. The next morning I was hurting so bad I thought I was going to die. Called my doctor and he said to get to his office right away. They xrayed and the kidney stone was still intact. The doctor said there were three options. One was to try to pass it. As long as it wasn't obstructing my urine flow doctor said it was ok to try to pass. If it obstructs urine flow it can damage your kidneys. Two, they could could up my penis and pull the stone out. I ruled that one out right away. Three could do surgery and remove the stone. I went home and drank a six pack of beer and drank cranberry juice for about a week. I finally passed the stone. I pray I never have one again. It is the most painful thing I have ever experienced.
  12. My blood pressure has been up since this morning. I started to post about this but I thought well, this site is about motorcycles and there is no need to get a discussion started that may get out of hand. But after reading this post here I go. I said that the next time someone complained about insurance rates I was going to tell them to call lawyers and chiropractors. A lady in my church that I have insured was backing out of a parking space at k mart and another vehicle was backing out in the same direction. The two vehicles hit each other. The damage to my insureds car was 450.00. The girl in the other car was screaming and crying so my insured asked her mother, who was in the car, why she was so upset. Her mother said she was upset because she just had another accident a few months ago. Everyone was fine, no one was hurt. Today I got a copy of the claim check where my company paid the other party $20,000. I called my company and talked to the claims rep and I jumped all over him and asked him if they just laid down and gave a blank check to the other party. He said they know it is fraud but can't prove it so they can't take the chance of going to court. The other party went to a chiropractor 22 times and the chiropractor stated they had soft tissue damage. Another of my insureds went through a stop sign in a ford ranger pickup and was hit by a 4 wheel drive dodge ram truck. It totaled my insureds truck but barely did any damage to the dodge. No one was hurt. Last week I got a copy of the claim check and my company paid the guy in the dodge ram $50,000. My insured said no one was in the dodge other than the driver but the lawyer claimed the guys 4 year old was in the truck also. Another of my insured's son was turning into the drive way shared by the local harely dealer and hooters. A guy on his harley leaving hooters turned into the path of my insureds vehicle. My insured slammed on brakes and barley knocked the guy down on the harely. The people who were eating and drinking with the harley rider stated they had been drinking alcohol. The rider wasn't hurt and got up and rode away on his bike. He got an attorney and sued the insurance company but when the company took the statements of the people drinking with the harley rider they denied anyone was drinking. The company just settled with him for $75,000. Back to the claims rep I talked with this morning. He said he had been handling claims for 40 years and said he would estimate 75% of the claims he pays involve some fraud but you can't prove it. We all fuss about rates but the rates area based on what the companies pay out. Now, I'm ready for all of you that are going to come back bashing insurance companies.
  13. There are some bad viruses and malwares out there today. I have to use microsoft windows because that is the only operating system used by the insurance companies I do business with. I have a firewall and anitvirus that updates every day and two other spyware and malware programs. I have had two malwares that popped up and started scanning my computer for virures and malwares and said I needed to pay for their program which is 49.95 to get the viruses and malwares off. This is a hoax and it will lock up you computer. The first time I was able to do a google search and find how to get in my directory and get the malware out. The second time I had to call my computer tech. He took my computer with him and was able to get me going again. He says the malware is coming from the Russian mafia. I didn't believe him but last week I received my monthly issue of Insurance technoloy. The editor of this magazine, with every available software program to protect their computers said the malware I just mentioned got on his company's computers and locked them down. He said the new malwares are coming from countries overseas and some of the money they get when suckers pay the 49.95 is even going to support some of the terrorist. He said the developers of these programs have gotten so smart that when you find the file the malware is in it will automatically move to another file. I saw an article on 60 minutes a few weeks ago where they interviewed the head of IT with the FBI. He said there is a new kind of soldier that we are fighting and he doesn't carry a gun. He is a computer expert. He said someone got in the pentagon's computer files snooping around and it was three days before the pentagon realized this. The 60 minutes reported asked, Do you know what country got in our files? The FBI said yes. 60 minutes said, would you tell me the country and the FBI said no. You can take all the precautions you want but it is going to get harder and harder to keep the criminals out.
  14. Just hope you never get diabetes. The breakfast will have to go along with everything that tastes good.
  15. Didn't think Paul would be a pro helmet guy. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xa6EwqydLvo]YouTube- Paul Teutul Sr. "American Chopper) on David Letterman ( Jan/11/10 Monday ) also Jennifer Connelly[/ame]
  16. Its easy to say you would take legal action all the way to the supreme court if necessary but do have a million or more dollars to pay attorney's fees for something insignificant?
  17. Lew, Work definately sucks, but there are a lot of people today that wish there was work for them to do. Be thankful you can retire in 1year and 8 mos. My wife works with me in our insurance agency and gets discouraged that we can't retire anytime in the future. I tell her to be thankful that we can continue to work because its not physical labor, and we can also take a day or two off without having to ask a boss. As long as my mind holds up, my wife says it has been gone for years, I can continue to work until I die. This isn't what I had planned at this point in my life but I am thankful for what I have. Not saying you aren't thankful. Good luck.
  18. I wonder if it is snowing at Al Gore's home.
  19. Hey footsie, I had an exhibit there in october. Gave away a garmin gps. Were you there? They asked me to come back in April with an exhibit but I don't know if I will or not. It cost me a little over $1,000 when you add cost for lodging and meals so I'm not sure right now. Will let you know if I decide to go.
  20. It is 17 degrees here is south georgia and I rode my bike to work. The post man just delivered the mail and said when he was in germany he rode his bike in the snow but I was crazy riding in this weather. He said with the wind chill it is probably 0. I rode it this morining just to show people I can. Did any of you ride this morning?
  21. Lewis, Sorry to hear about your problems. I don't know how big your company is or where they are headquarted but someone in authority with your company could call the insurance company and tell them if they can't do better than this they will place coverage with another company. You can also go on line to the georgia insurance commissioner and file a complaint. The insurance company will have to answer the complaint and explain to the commissioner why they took the action they did. The health insurance companies in georgia are very concerned when the insurance commissioner gets a complaint since united healthcare just got fined $750,000 for not paying claims on time. A couple of years ago double cross double shield got fined $300,000. To the people that want the govenment take over the health insurance industry, if you think this is bad wait until the government takes over. Thats all I'm going to say.
  22. The valykrie interstate was only made for 2 years. The regular valykrie was made 5 years. The regular valykrie is like the tour deluxe and the interstate is like the venture. I was going to get a valykrie interstate when I bought my venture in 2005. At that time the interstates were bringing 10,500 to 13,000 on cycle trader. I got my venture for 15,500 with a 5 year warranty so I couldn't see paying 10,500 to 13,000 for a used valykrie. Last week I was on cycle trader looking for the latest prices on an interstate. There were only two listed in the US and they were asking $9,000 to 10,000. There were several regular valkyries in the $7,000 range. I was looking at the values of an interstate because my brother in law has a 99 interstate in mint condition that he is considering selling. The price of the one on ebay is a little on the high side but it does look like it is in mint condition.
  23. Congratulations! You have a beautiful daughter. She must look like her mother.
  24. Most music that is played on country stations today isn't country. The stuff played sounds like rock.
  25. I am the expert on rear drives. I am on the sixth rear end. The last time I thought I was having problems with the rear end yamaha sent a factory rep to look at my bike. He said the rear splines were dry and he sent the service manager of the yamaha dealer to the honda dealer to buy some honda moly 60 grease. The yamaha factory rep said everytime you replace the rear tire to regrease with honda moly 60. He didn't say to use any other grease.
