Sorry to hear about this loss. Such a shame. I called on a Kawasaki dealer last year and we talked about how fast the sport bikes (crotch rockets) are, right off the showroom floor. This dealer raced motorcycles until a couple of years ago. He said the first thing he ask a potential customer when they are looking at a crotch rocket is, how much riding experience do you have. If they say none he tells them he won't sell them the bike. Kawasaki has a four cylinder ninja, I think it is 600 or 650 ccs, but the dealer said you could be going 120mph and twist the throttle and it will stand straight up. He said when they ask why he won't sell them the bike he says, "because I don't want to be going to your funeral in a couple of weeks." He loses sales but I respect him for being honest and sticking to what he believes.

Wow! That had to be an eye opener. Glad you didn't get hurt and have to deal with those evil insurance companies that forge your name to the uninsured motorist form.

I had a similar problem. Have an 05. Never had a problem until I got back from maintenance day last year. Parked bike for a week and the batter went dead. Bought new battery and a week later it was dead. Got another new battery but it will go dead if I don't keep it on the battery tender. If I go 2 days off the tender batter goes dead. Took it to the dealer last week. Called friday to see if it was ready for me to pick up and was told the technician was having a problem tracking down problem. The battery charges ok but when bike is runnning battery starts going down. I am calling today to see if they have found the problem.

Same thing happened to my 05 when I bought it. I took it to the dealer and the serv mgr called Clarion who manufactured my radio. Clarion told serv mgr to remove fairing and put dielectric grease on all connectors. Haven't had a problem until recently. 48,000 miles and now it is doing it again. I could fix myself but since I have warranty left I will let dealer do it.

Took my bike to Tallahassee Powersports for the 48,000 mile service. Before taking bike to dealer I read the post about cracked tabs in the fairing that hold the windshield on. I have two cracked tabs. I printed the post on here about the cracked tabs and took it with me to the dealer. Dealer just called and said yamaha is going to replace my fairing under warranty but don't know how long it will take to get fairing as it is on back order. Even though it is backordered I am happy. I just knew they were going to call and tell me yamaha wouldn't replace the fairing. I have read many times where dealers and yamaha wouldn't replace items under warranty but I have to say, yamaha has always been good to me. My warranty expires in september so I better get everything I need before then.

I had the I basket installed at 16,000 miles and it took the whine completely away. No whine at any speed. I now have 48,000 miles on my bike and a little bit of the whine has come back. I don't notice it until 4th and 5th gear at 50 to 60 mph. It's fine now but I am concerned that it may get louder.

Rick Butler makes a set of seat nuts you can take on and off with your fingers and they won't vibrate off. I bought a set and am very pleased with them. I think they were about $6.00.

I like coffee but one thing bothers me. It is grown in countries that don't have the pesticide regulations we have in the US. In the country it is grown it is sprayed with every pesticide imaginable. I looked at some organic coffee at Publix a few weeks ago and a small bag was $12.00. I may have to put up with the pesticide.

Yamaha may not tell the dealers thinking when someone comes in the dealer will them yamaha won't replace the basket and you will go away. But when someone persist the dealer calls yamaha and finds they will replace the basket. Yamaha probably wishes this site didn't exist.

Why is it that I see a lot of HD riders with their wife riding a bike also and hers is a metric bike. If HD is the only way to go why don't they bike HD's for their wives?

Does your bike have the leveling links on it. These will make the rear end rise. I put them on my bike but took them off because with them I felt like I was being pushed forward when I sat on the bike.

I forget to mention this. With earplugs you can use them with different helmets. I use them with my half helmet in the summer and also with my 3/4 helmet in the winter.

Edsets makes an adapter that will allow you to plug in a set of earplugs into your intercom system. The quality of sound is better and you can use them with half helmets.

If you want to lose weight and keep it off you have to make a lifestyle change. Just a diet won't do it. It's not easy. You need to eliminate all grains and sugar from your diet. Corn is a grain and very bad for you. During the Regan administration the government was looking for a cheaper alternative to sugar. Someone came up with high fructose corn sugar which is made from corn. It is cheaper and ten times sweeter so you will see it in almost all foods and drinks today. Even regular sugar, sucrose sugar, is better for you than high fructose corn sugar. Sugars are simple carbohydrates processed by your body in the same manner as grains. That is, any excess sugars in your body are converted by insulin and subsequently into fat and just like grains, Americans are consuming an enormous quantity of sugar. In the past two decades in the US, sugar consumption has increased by over 30%. The average per person sugar intake is now 175 pounds per year. That's 300,000 calories per year or 800 calories per day from sugar. The average american is consuming well over 3,000 calories per day including over 20 teaspoons of added sugars. The most common intake of sugar is soda. Eliminating soda is one of the best steps you can take to improve your health. In addition to soda there are high sugar culprits disguised as "healthy" by food marketers like: fruit drinks, fruit beverages and fruit punch which contain anywhere from 1% to 40% of fruit juice but which contain loads of sugar, usually high fructose corn syrup. A good book to read is: Take Control OF Your Health by Dr. Joseph Mercola.

Having type 2 diabetes I have to exercise. I have been using a schwinn airdyne for a couple of years. When I do 30 minutes on the airdyne keeping my heart rate at around 118, this is the rate for maximum fat burning at my age, I burn approx 200 calories. I can't do more than 30 minutes on the airdyne because that is all my butt can stand. A few weeks ago I bought a gold gym's ellipitical. I saw it on home shopping newtwork for $399.00 which is a good price for the one I bought. There is a pre programmed workout on the elliptical for maximum weight loss. If I do it with my heart rate at 118 I burn 500 calories. On the airdyne I had to really work to get my heart rate up to 118 but on the elliptical I have to slow down to keep my heart rate at 118. It will get up to 125 before I get going good. When you exercise you need to keep a check on your heart rate and find what your target rate is for your age. I have been pleased with the elliptical.

I have ridden it twice. Won't do it again. I like the Cherohala Skyway much better.

I know there was a thread on this in 08 but just wondering if anyone has diabetes, does it affect your riding, how do you handle it?
-
Hey Bummer, If you were hear I would kiss you. Not!!! What you said is so true. For years people looked at their coverage to see if it was what they needed and then looked at the price. Today it is all about the price. Most people don't even know what they have. We have been bombarded with, call the lizard and save 15%. Then progressive and all the other companies started advertising, call us, customers saved over $500 switching to us. Call us and tell us what you can pay each month and we will give you coverage.

Hey Footsie, Glad your friend is OK. It could have been bad. Two years ago a guy came in my office who had just purchased a new VTX1800. I would see him riding all the time. His widow came in one monday morning and told me he hit a deer that saturday. He was killed instantly. The police report showed he skidded about 30 feet before hitting the deer. The bike was on the left side of the road and the deer was on the right side of the road. Hitting a deer is one of my biggest fears. As far as reporting the accident, yes you should, however I have experienced many insurance claims where the incident wasn't reported and the insurance company paid the claim. As long as you can substantiate what happend the claim will be paid. In your friend's case it wouldn't be a problem proving he hit a deer.

Eck, you may be right but I have the same problem mentioned. Ponch saw this on my shield at maintenance day. Two of mine are completely broken. Ponch glued the one that was broken then but it has since broken again.

You can do a search titled "getting the wind off you knees" and you will get the thread where BuddyRich makes and sells the wind blockers. Right now I think it is on page 18 or 19.
-
I bought the blockers from buddy rich. The velcro on the left one sticks fine but I can't get the right one to stick. I almost lost it riding home from work yesterday. Any suggestions?

Every 2nd gen venture has this same problem. The replacement you get from the dealer will do the same thing. VGoose has a fix for this problem.

Hey CMIKE, What are those two black things that have a screw in the side of them? -
A few years ago I had a kidney stone and had the procedure to blast it. The next morning I was hurting so bad I thought I was going to die. Called my doctor and he said to get to his office right away. They xrayed and the kidney stone was still intact. The doctor said there were three options. One was to try to pass it. As long as it wasn't obstructing my urine flow doctor said it was ok to try to pass. If it obstructs urine flow it can damage your kidneys. Two, they could could up my penis and pull the stone out. I ruled that one out right away. Three could do surgery and remove the stone. I went home and drank a six pack of beer and drank cranberry juice for about a week. I finally passed the stone. I pray I never have one again. It is the most painful thing I have ever experienced.
