Hey raceman62race, In georgia there are two uninusred motorist options. One is called reduced and the other is called added on. The reduced is the old uninsured motorist that only pays you if the other party is uninsured. The added on option is really uninsured/underinsured motorist. If you have the added on option and the other party pays you but it is not enough you can collect your uninsured motorist in addition. So, if the other party has only the minimum required in Georgia which is $25,000 and it isn't enough you can collect your uninsured motorist in addition. Any attorney will know this. This change came about because an attorney in Georgia was hit by an uninsured driver with the minimum coverage and he wanted to collect his uninsured motorist also but couldn't because of the way the law was written. But guess what? The attorney was in the legislature so he got the law changed. I have never put the reduced option on a poicy I write. I always recommend the added on option. Insurance companies get a report called a CLUE report. It is like a credit report but it shows the company any claim that has been filed on your insurance. It will show whether the claim was an at fault or not at fault accident or a comprehensive claim. Insurance companies can't surcharge you for a not at fault accident but it can affect your rate in some cases. Most companies today give a "claims free" discount for being claims free for three years or five years. To qualify for this discount you must be claims free, so even a not at fault accident can keep you from receiving the claims free discount but you can't be surcharged for the not at fault accident.

Hey XV1100SE, You might not pay the hospital but you pay dearly for your health care system.

Last week on my trip to Virginia and West Virginia I had a problem with my cb turning off. I would be riding along and it would just turn off. I had to keep checking and turn it back on. Later on before it would turn off an error message would appear that said cberr. I've never had this problem before, any ideas? Thanks

Good ole GEICO. 90% is ridiculous. Every company I know of uses 75%. I recently talked to the owner of one of the largest body shops here and I asked how he felt about the lizard. He said he would rather not do work if the lizard is the company but he can't refuse a customer. I asked why. He said they "go light" on the estimate. I asked what go light means. He said they try to use the cheapest parts and repair things that need to be replaced. For example he said on a bent door they want him to put a new skin on it. I asked what is a new skin. He said that is where you take the metal off the door and keep the frame but put new metal on the frame. He said it won't last and sometimes he has refused to do it. Every customer that has come in my office except one and is with the lizard and wants to change companies and I ask them why has said becasue they had a claim and the lizard jacked them around. I am replacing more and more lizard polices every year.

I would call an independent agent that represents more than one company and get them to check the rates with all their companies. First though you need to determine what coverages you want and need and then get the rates. I am biased to dealing with an agent because over the years I have had so many cases where, as an agent, I had to intervene on behalf of a customer and get them a better settlement than what was offered. When you deal with GEICO or any other company over the phone or internet the person you buy from is paid to sell and you will never see or talk to them again. I find they will tell you anything or leave off coverages to have a low rate and make the sell. A local agent knows you can walk in and see him or her face to face so they are less likely to tell you anything to make a sell. Also remember the lowest rate is not always the best. If you have a claim and you don't have the proper coverage or you can't get help the lowest rate won't be the best. One more thing. An independent agent is not an employee of the company so they can be your advocate and the company can't fire them. With a company employee, even if the employee doesn't feel you are being treated fairly they can't say anything without the risk of being fired. I've seen agents that were employees of a company complain about a claim and the company telling them, "You get paid to sell not handle claims."

Thanks all for the info. One more thing. What is the weather like in WV now. Long sleeve or short sleeve shirts, do I need to take a jacket? Thanks.

I'm riding with my brother in law and I think he said around the eastern part or around the monogahela. No 100% sure though.

I have been to that dealership several times and hate to hear the bad news. However I have called on them several times and left my business cards and told them I can get a customer the best rate available on insurance. They love progressive and won't consider any other company. I told them if they want their customers to pay double or triple to stay with progressive. The lady in the accessory department said she has progressive on her personal bike and wouldn't change. Oh well, I guess they have more money than they need. As an example I just insured an 09 Venture for someone in Peachtree City. This guy had 300,000 liablity, same uninsured and 250 deductible on comp and coll. He was paying $900.00 per with Nationwide. I quoted him with the six companies I represent and progressive was the highest at $2,200 per year. I got him better coverage for $500.00 per year.

The road glide is probably the most under rated harley. It is a good looking bike and people I know that ride harleys say it is the most smooth ride. If I was thinking about getting one I would want to ride one with my wife on the back. Harley has that rear cylinder leaned out so much the heat could be a problem for the passenger but you could always have the fi re mapped to make the rear cylinder more rich.

Leveling links, not for me!
ediddy replied to Midrsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I tied leveling links several years ago and didn't like them. I thought maybe I was crazy because everyone raves about how great they are. -
Good looking UC. If I bought a new bike it would be the ultra classic but it will have to be an 09 or newer. I ride 2 up most of the time and the pre 09 models have a problem with heat on the passenger. There is one thing that makes me a little nervous about buying a harley and that is the cost of maintainence. All of my harley friends here say the dealer charge for service is outrageous. I noticed that even on the harley web site I go on they talk about indys doing their service. I didn't know what an indy was but it is an independent shop owner. A friend of mine bought an ultra classic and when he took it to the dealer for the first service he said he almost passed out when he got the bill. He said he told them he didn't bring in a jaguar but a motorcycle.

What are you going to do in your spare time?

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. I renewed my registration in july. Sunday I was cleaning my room and I looked under a bunch of magazines and there was my sticker. I put it on my bike this morning.

I keep having a problem with my battery going dead. I rode my bike last thursday and didn't get to ride it this weekend because of the weather. I went out this morning to ride it to work and the battery is dead. A couple of months ago my dealer kept it for 2 weeks and checked everything on the bike and determined the recifier was bad so he replaced it and my battery under warranty. Now it's dead again. Man this is frustrating. I guess I better get back to the dealer as my warranty expires 9/3.

Every make of mototcycle has good and bad dealerships. I'm not riding an ultra classic today because of a poor dealership. They aren't in business today. It was 2005 and I had a 1100 v star and my wife and I wanted a touring bike. I rode a goldwing and didn't like it so I went to the harley dealer. I left my office dressed in office attire and pulled up in my Lincoln Aviator. I saw the most beautiful bike I had ever seen. It was a blue and white ultra classic. I walked all around the bike and looked around with my eyes saying, someone please come over here and talk to me. No one acknowledged I was in the building. When I got home I told my wife I had found the bike we needed. Two days later I returned to the harley dealer with my wife and we both were looking at the ultra. No one would even look at us. An employee of the dealer came in the front door and walked past me and I say good morning. He never acknowledged I was there and walked into an office and sat at his desk. I told my wife, lets go, it will be a cold day in hell before I spend money with these jerks. A friend of ours had an 04 venture and told us we could come by his house and take it for a ride and go as far as we wanted. My wife and I had ridden about 10 miles when she leaned up and said this is the bike we need. So, I bought an 05 venture in september 05. I am still riding the venture.

Hey Rick Heywood, I had the first rear end replaced at 16,000 miles and the fifth at 29,298 miles. I now have just over 50,000 and haven't had any problems since 29,298. My bike goes out of warranty next month so I hope nothing major happens.

I've had many parts replaced under warranty. Never have I had to pay the labor charges. I broke the tabs off the chrome piece that goes around the bottom of the windshield but yamaha replaced it under warranty. Yamaha replace my fairing because some of the tabs that the screws go into to hold the windwhield in place were broken. I had the fuel pump replaced under warranty and I had five rear ends replaced under warranty and never did anyone mention paying for the labor.

I was at the harley dealership yesterday at 4:40PM making a sales call talking to the sales manager. She said she was just informed that the dealership was closing and moving to Tifton. Earlier in the week I had heard that the owners of the dealership had purchased the American Outdoors building and were moving there but the sales manager said yesterday that was called off.

Our harley dealer here in Albany, Georgia is closing. They have a salellite dealership on I 75 in Tifton, Georgia and will be moving everything from Albany to Tifton. The Albany dealership lost $500,000 last year. The Albany dealership has never been able to get it together. The current dealer is the third or fourth owner. The original owner was a perfect example of how not to run a business. He ran off more business than he got. The Tifton location has been doing very well. I wish them success.

There is no cut off date for carbs. As long as a mfg can meet the epa requirements you can use carbs, however the requirments are going to get so tough that the only way to meet them will be fuel injection.

Are you sure that was a street glide. The road glide has the fairing mounted the way you described.
