  1. I'd be careful. The used harley market is flooded right now and it is a buyers market.
  2. No. Don't want a goldwing.
  3. Congratulations! I'm sure your wife deserves a medal.
  4. Can you jump a venture with jumper cables hooked to an automobile battery?
  5. As a lot of people here stated, call the yamaha district manager. Yamaha has to get it corrected. My dealer told me they had a yamaha warrior that they couldn't get fixed. They would have it running good but when the customer got home it would act up again. The service manager told me yamaha called him and he told them he had done everything he knew to do so yamaha told him to put the bike back in the crate and ship it back. Yamaha gave the customer a new bike. Tell yamaha they can either get if fixed or give you a new bike. Don't sell it at a loss. If you can't find a district manager send me an email. I have the contact info for the district manager for the southeast. If you're out of his territory I'm sure he could put you in contact with the manager for your area.
  6. I'm on my second set of avons. Ride 2 up loaded with luggage most of the time. I have 9,000 miles on current tires and they still look good. Never had a problem with balancing.
  7. People need to stay away. You can't help people that won't help themselves. When they had the people jailed from the church in the usa that went there to help them I told all the do gooders rasing money I wouldn't give them on dime. I called the toll free numbers and told them as long as they had the people in jail I wouldn't give anything.
  8. Hey Capt-D, I know what you mean about the oil. I rode my bike to work last week and was going to the bank to make a deposit. I pulled into the drive thru lane and put my foot down and my foot slipped and my bike was going down. I thought, how embarrassing to drop my bike here, plus I probably couldn't pick it up by myself. Right before my bike got to the point of no return I managed to get it back up. I won't do that again.
  9. I've tried several gloves but none worked. I was at Lowe's and saw a pair of rubber gloves that have some kind of ruff material where you grab something that keeps your hands from slipping off the grips. They were $3.95. There is one problem. In the summer your hands will burn up because no air can get in.
  10. Hey VGoose, You're very knowledeable about mechanical problems and I have learned a lot from you, but when my fuel pump went bad it never was a problem at high speed. When it finally gave out I was riding through town at about 35 mph and the engine died. I called the dealer on my cell and they were coming to get my bike. While waiting I kept trying to start it and it would start and run for about a minute and die again. After doing this several times it started and ran fine. I called the dealership and told them to hold off I was on the way. I drove about 3 miles to the dealership and it never cut off. It ran fine for several weeks. One day I was going to ride it to work and it wouldn't start. I trailered it to the dealer and the fuel pump was completely dead.
  11. I would check the fuel pump first. My 05 did the same thing and it was the fuel pump.
  12. I can understand the clerk asking you to remove the hood. I have an insurance agency with my wife and son. It makes me nervous when someone comes in with a hood on. When you're inside why do you need the hood. There have been several agencies on the street we're on that have been robbed. Every robber had a hood on his head. We just discussed asking anyone that comes in with a hood to remove it while they are in the office. I don't like it that it has come to this but today you can't be too careful.
  13. Yamah will replace it under warranty. They did for me.
  14. Hey midnightventure, There are no autos made in america. As someone said, they are assembled in the USA. A few years ago I read an article in Time magazine that listed the percentage of parts of american vehicles that were made in another country. The auto with the highest percentage of foreign parts was the Ford F150 with 65% of its parts made overseas. I see good ole boys driving their trucks with their harley davidson decal on the back window criticizing people for buying honda and toyotos. Also, you have a yamaha. I don't know of any yamaha's made in the usa.
  15. My bike speedometer shows 5mph faster than actual speed.
  16. I know how you feel. I keep telling my wife that the world has gone crazy but they keep trying to convince me I am the one that is crazy. The manager could have let you know some way other than putting an orange sticker on the windshield. This is a different subject but corporate american has gone crazy and is run by a bunch of idiotic jackasses. It's no wonder companies in the united states can't do anything right or compete with other companies.
  17. Hey ic23b, That's why I wouldn't buy insurance without an agent. The person on the other end of the toll free number knows they will never talk with you or see you again so they might tell you anything. They might have given you a quote that is $1.00 lower but they couldn't issue a policy below the state minimums. The territory manager with progressive told me they have many more complaints about inaccurate rates through their direct marketing than they do with agents.
  18. You made some good points Condor. Most people don't look at their coverage until they have a claim and get upset because they didn't have the proper coverage. I used to get upset when I would see people on this site talk about the cheap insurance they have. You need to make sure you have the proper coverage and then get the best rate available for that coverage. GEICO and Progessive and other companies have bombarded the tv with advertisements about how people save $500 per year by switching to progressive or call Gottago and save 15%, so people don't consider coverage anymore; its all about the price. A few months ago I got a phone call from someone with geico. She identified herself and said he had my customer on the line and that my customer wanted to cancel her coverage because she had bought it with geico. I asked my customer why she wanted to change. She said because she got full coverage with towing and rental for less money than her coverage with me. I asked mrs geico what liability limits she quoted. In a very huffy rude tone she said, 25/50/25. I said that interesting, mrs. doe, not real name, has 50/100/50 limits with my company. I then said did you give her uninsured motorists. Mrs geico said yes. I said what limits. Mrs geico said 25/50/25. I said thats interesting my coverage if 50/100/50, so you saved her money but you cut her coverage in half. Geico needs to give mrs doe a letter stating that you reduced her coverage so you agree that if one person is hurt in an accident instead of paying 25,000 you agree to pay 50,000 and if more than one person is hurt you agree to pay 100,000 instead of 50,000 and for any property damaged you agree to pay 50,000 instead of 25,000. Ms geico said oh no we can't do that. I said but you saved her money so you need to pay the limits she has on her current policy. I then asked mrs geico how much would they pay per day for rental car coverage and she said $20.00 per day. I said thats interesting too, she has $30.00 per day with us. I then asked mrs geico what her rate was and she said $700.00 every six months. I said hummm, thats $1,400 per year but mrs doe is only paying my company $1,200 per year for twice the coverage. Mrs doe spoke up and saqid Mr. Hall, please don't cancel my policy. This is a long story but is shows that my insured didn't pay any attention to the coverage she had but was looking only for a lower rate. And the geico rep was unethical and unprofessional because she didn't care about the coverage she just wanted to make a sale. This is why I hate geico. They have never been trained to determine the coverage someone needs and make recommendations. They just quote the minimum to have a lower rate and make the sale. They have done this to so many people and should be sued if they reduce someone's coverage and the insured has an accident and isn't covered properly. But they don't care. They will never see or talk to the person again. I have to look my insured's in the eye and explain what I do. I can't hide.
  19. I've often wondered about the t-shirt thing. Harley has made a lot of money selling $10.00 t shirts for $30.00 because they have the name of a harley dealer on the back. But the t shirt thing hasn't caught on with the metric bikes. I met a retired yamaha dealer from wisconsin in Tallahassee Florida and I asked him about this. He said he lost his **s on t shirts. He thought it was a good idea to copy Harley and order t shirts, sweat shirts and caps with his yamaha dealer name on them and didn't sell enough to recoup his cost. I also don't understand the harley thing about stopping at every dealer you go by. I don't stop at any yamaha dealer unless I need a part or service. This topic came up on the harley web site I go on occasionally and I was surprised that one guy on there said people were crazy to pay $30.00 for a $10.00 t shirt to advertise for harley. He said he bought plain t shirts for $10.00 and that if harley wanted him to advertise for them they could pay him. I thought, well there is one harley rider with some common sense.
  20. I would get to the dealer and let them deal with it. I have an 05 and when I got 28,000 miles on it I was on the fifth read end. The second factory rep yamaha sent to look at my bike said "man, you're wearing out a rear end every 5,000 miles." I was at bike week in Daytona back then and I stopped at the yamaha demo and I mentioned to one of the yamaha guys about my problem with the read ends. He said we have a factory rep here if you want to talke with him. I said sure. I can't remember the reps name but he was well know by yamaha owners in the south. He said that yamaha had gotten some bad rear diffs from the company that manufactured them. I don't think it has been a problem in the last few years but I wouldn't touch the rear end and let the dealer and yamaha deal with it.
  21. I know exactly what you mean. When I was thinking about getting an ultra classic I signed up for one of the harley sites that one of my harley buddies was always raving about what a great site it was. I was going to just see what the harley guys were saying about the ultra classic. I still go on the site every month or so and I can tell that I wouldn't want to associate with most of the people on that site. Don would never let the language and topics they discuss on this site. They are different people. They will sling the f word around and other words that you wouldn't want to hear. They don't completely spell the f word but will leave out one letter so it's obvious that's what they are saying. The class of people on here is definately higher. Well, most are higher. LOL.
  22. Spent the weekend in Dawsonville. Wasn't on the bike, had to drive the car as was visiting a newphew in the hospital and had my wife and daughter with me. I couldn't believe the traffic. I've never seen that kind of traffic in Dawsonville before. Saturday afternoon we were going to get some apples at, I think it was RL Reece. The traffic was bumper to bumper for about 2 miles. There was a harley in front of me and I could tell it was working him to death. When you move about three feet and stop going up and down hill it is tiring. I rolled down my window and I could hear the harley engine sounding like it was coming apart. It wasn't long before he pulled over to the side of the road and switched off his bike. I meet two ventures. One was blue and the other was silver. The weather was perfect for riding. Made me wish I was on my bike.
  23. Hey wes0778, I just insured a 02 Harley FXST and a 07 Harley FLHX for $351.00 per year. That is for both bikes, not per bike. The guy was paying $903.00 per year with Foremost. I gave him 100/300/50 liablity, 100/300/50 uninsured motorist, 250 ded comprehensive and collision. American Modern's rate for the same coverage was $975.00 per year.
  24. American Modern is a good company. I represent them along with 5 other companies for motorcycle insurance. The last six months I have been beating american modern with other companies. I could probably get you a better rate. There are several people on here that I have saved money on the cycle insurance.
  25. Hey rentalbuy1, This is the last time I am responding because I am close to saying something I might regret. But no one in their right mind would accuse someone of committing fraud when yamaha has told them its up to the dealer to determine what is covered under warranty if it is less than $750.00. My dealer knows something about customer service and realizes when I need another bike I will go to them. Also, the dealer told me that they had broken the chrome piece before when servicing a bike.
