You need to call Yamaha. If you will pm me I will get you the contact info for a district service manager. I can't believe yamaha wouldn't get a factory rep to look into this.
-
Glad you got your bike back. I find it hard to believe that yamaha would say something is covered under warranty and then back out. There had to be something the dealer did or didn't do for yamaha not to pay. I've probably had more experience with yamaha and warranty work than anyone on this site and I nor my dealer ever had a problem with warranty work. I'm not saying you don't know what you are talking about, I am saying I don't believe the dealer when they say they didn't get reimbursed from yamaha.

Tie down 2nd Gen on Trailer?
ediddy replied to jryan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I use extenders and run one on each side of the triple tree. I cut about 12" of a clothes hanger and put a 90 degree bend about 1/4" long in one end. I run that through the front of the fairing and hook it onto the extender and then pull it through. I tie my tie down straps to the extender. I also have a wheel chock for the front tire. I have tie down holders mounted to the floor that pull the bike forward. As far as the back there is no need to tie down the back of the bike. You would have to drive like a stunt driver to get the back end to move. I have hauled my bike many miles and the back end never moves. -
Rear end trouble...need advice HELP
ediddy replied to CMIKE's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If I were you I would go ahead and call yamaha. At 25,000 miles I was on my fifth rear end. I called a district service manager with yamaha and they sent a factory rep to my dealer twice. They said they did get a batch of bad rear ends. I now have 54,000 miles and haven't had anymore problems. I was impressed with yamaha during that time. They never once tried to get out of doing what was right. As for the fairing, the dealer can replace that under warranty with no problem. I took my bike to my dealer when I found some of the tabs that hold the windshield were broken. They replaced the fairing, no questions asked. My dealer told me anything costing $750.00 or less can be replaced under warranty with no questions asked. Over $750.00 they have to get approval from yamaha. I am still amazed at the stories I hear about dealers. Some of them shouldn't be allowed to hang a sign saying yamaha. Good luck. -
Hey jfoster, Regarding your insurance question. Only people in your state can give you accurate info on insurance rates. Every state is different. In Georigia for example I insure harleys all the time for $300 to 400 per. The highest rate I have seen for a harley was a 2010 screamin eagle ultra classic carrying 250/500/100 liability, same uninsured motorist, 250 ded comprehensive and collison, roadside assistance for $500.00 per year. By the way progressive's rate for that bike was $1,900.00 per year. I guess Flo needed some money that day.

I go a site weekly called Harleytechtalk.org. It's similar to this site in that there are several catagories. There is a general catagory for non bike related topics. The harley riders on there don't cut any slack to the "MOCO." If there is something wrong they will tell you. A few years ago they were saying harley was making the crankshafts out of silly putty. There were having trouble with the cranks breaking. You can tell the people are aren't the same as the people on this site. I guess it's a harley thing.

Where the HE$$ does the seat nuts go.
ediddy replied to Eddie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I feel your pain. I ordered the seat nuts from Rick Butler one fell off while I was trying to put it on. I searched everywhere and never found it. It didn't make it to the floor but it can't be found. -
Reminds me of my first week in life insurance training school in 1972. It was a joke but this is how we were told to handle this objection. An agent is trying to get the husband to buy life insurance. The husband says, "I'm not going to leave a lot of money behind for my wife to marry some bastard and have a good time." Here is how I was told to handle this. You look the guy in the eyes and say, "Maybe she won't marry one the next time." I've never had the courage to say that and don't think it would work.

I can't find a part number for a part. I took the tank off my bike. On the left side there is a black cover that attaches to the neck of the frame. Does anyone know the description and part number? I need the screw that holds this part on the bike. Thanks,

Trunk Rack
ediddy replied to frmarksiegelhotmail.com's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I bought the jc whitney rack when I bought my bike in 2005. I like the rack and haven't had any problems except it does rust around the joints where it was welded. I may have it rechromed someday. If I had it to do over again I would get the yamaha rack.- 27 replies

Hey Gary, Awsome ride. I always wanted to fly in an open cock pit plane. When I was a boy I there was a crop duster that flew an open cock pit stearman. I use to dream of being a crop duster. I took flying lessions years ago. A few years ago I went to a festival and two guys had restored an old stearman and were giving rides. That was one of the most awsome experiences I have had. The pilot let me take the stick. I was in heaven. He even went around an extra time and we did a low pass over the landing strip. In aviation that is called "scraping the deck." It was so fun.

I've had one bout and it was bad. A year ago I was dreaming the room was spinning, woke up at 5:00am and the room was spinning. Was going to get some water and realized I couldn't make it to the kitchen so I went to the bathroom and was leaning on the sink and all of a sudden my legs collapsed and I hit the floor. I've never had that to happen to me in my life. I tried laying down but the room would spin, I tried sitting up and the room would spin, I tired laying on the floor and the room would spin. I could sit on the floor with my back against my recliner and tilt my head left and the room wouldn't spin. I've never vomitted so much in my life. I got an appointment with the doctor at 2:00pm and told them I would have to bring a plastic trash can because I was vomitting every few minutes. The doctor diagnosed as vertigo and gave me a prescription for meclizzine. It helped and after a couple of weeks I thought I was fine so I was going to ride my bike to the grocery store. After about 1/4 mile I had to turn around and go home. I was getting nausiated. I went to home depot a couple of weeks later and was looking at some items on the shelf and got nausiated again and had to go home. I was beginning to panick thinking I might never be able to ride again. I went to an ear nose and throat specialist. When he saw that I had only one attack within the last six weeks he asked why I was there to see him. I explained that I still got nausiated at times. He put on some googles that looked like the bottom of coke bottles and looked in my eyes. He said there were no neurological problems so no brain scan would be needed. He said it could take as long as 90 days to get completely over an attack. He said there were three receptors on each side of my brain and that five were probably working fine but one was still out of whack and would clear up after a while. The doctor said dramamine or any over the counter antihistamine would be good to take if I had another attack. I carry a pack of dramamine in my bike in case. So far I haven't had another attack, but I can tell you it is some bad stuff.

Don, You must have been reading my mind. My wife tells me she tries to read my mind but can't get a reading. But I almost posted about this myself. I have been insulted by a post when all I was doing was to try to discuss the topic. I came close to leaving the site. But anyway, thanks for your post, it was needed.

Intercom interference
ediddy replied to terrysears's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I've had that problem since my bike was new. I've tried moving the intercom wire under the tank but nothing helps. Sometimes the ticking is worse than others. I wish I could stop it. -
Hey captainjoe, I didn't mean to imply that all metric owners want a harley, just to say that most real motorcycle riders that have harleys started out riding metric bikes. The ones that didn't get a bike until their fifties and have an attitude are mostly harley riders. My son even said they were probably geeks in school and now want people to think they are bad. I too don't care what you ride. I have a lot of friends that ride harleys and I ride with them often. It shouldn't matter what you ride but some of the harley riders think differently.
-
Hey olddogjoe, Good comment. You can't express your opinon on this subject without one person on here arguing with you and even calling you a dumb ass. This site is for friendly discussion but some people can't do that.

I'm selling my bike. The government and insurance companies are going to ban motorcycles. I wish I had know this before I bought my bike.

Good looking bike. Most all real motorcycle riders started out riding metric bikes and later got a harley. I park my venture in front of my office when I ride it to work. I insure many harleys and have many friends that ride harleys. I recently insured a screamin eagle street glide. The guy asked me about by venture parked outside. He said he rode yamaha's for many years and never had a problem with any of them. He said I always wanted a harley and I can now afford one so I bought the street glide. He said I know it won't be as smooth as the yamaha but I just wanted a harley. I can't tell you how many times I have heard this. Most of the motorcycle wanabees never rode a motorcycle in their life and get to their fifties and think getting a harley makes them bad but real cycle riders started out in their teens riding honda, yamahas, suzukies and kawasakies.

Hey Arcs&Sparks, I didn't take anything out of context. I just wanted to know what you meant by the statement "Look it up, two of the biggest is loud pipes and insurance lobby." You need to make statments that have some truth to them or you don't have any credibility. I challenge you to name one instance of an insurance lobby doing something to get motorcycles off the road. If insurance companies didn't want motorcycles on the road why would more and more insurance companies be developing insurance products for motorcycles. Even Safeco, one of the most conservative companies in the United States is now insuring motorcylces. If you had asked anyone in the insurance industry when Safeco would be insuring motorcycles they would has said never, and you're crazy for even mentioning such a thing. So before you go off half cocked you make sure you know what you are talking about.

It's amazing how fast the technology is changing. In 1986 I was an agent with New York Life and they made a deal with IBM for us to buy a computer and printer for over $6,000.00. They financed it with GE capital. The computer I think was a 1086. It had a 10meg hard drive and a floopy disk drive and monochrome screen. The printer was a dot matrix printer. I thought I was in heaven. When I would run a life insurance proposal I could take a nap while I waited for the computer to calculate. Then once it started printing I could take a nap while I waited for the printer to print. Things have changed and will continue to change.
