Need a poll for second gen rear shock
jowens replied to CaptainJoe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Replaced the rear shock last week on a 2009 RSV. It had 11,800 miles. Warranty did cover it. It started leaking oil at 11,500 miles -
Just purchased the bikers choice mini tach for my 2009 Rsv. Were is a good place to connect the power wire and light wire into the system. Which coil should it be hooked too also. Thanks any replies will be greatly appreciated.

The rear tire has been removed so both sides of the ehaust have been removed. Gaskets dont look bad but will be replaced. The mufflers are stock.

2009 Yamaha Venture with 9900 miles. Recently removed the tamper proof caps and adjusted pilot screws. Had a miss at idle and a stumble at low speed and popping back through the exhaust on decal at low rpms. Had to adjust cylinder #3 out a total of 4 turns after seating the screw. Other 3 pilot screws are about 2 1/2 turns out. Plugged the AIS system, Changed air filters, did the carb sync, changed plugs, checked both carb diaphragms on right side, changed a vacuum line and both vacuum port caps. Cant find any vacuum leaks. Even switched coils in the rear. The engine is a lot smoother at idle now and I don't get much of a stumble or miss but still have the popping back at low rpms on decal. I thought that this bike may have sat for a while before I bought it so i ran 3 or 4 tank fulls of seafoam through it. It seemed to get worse after I ran the seafoam. I removed the fuel filter and it was like a reddish brown color inside. Is this an indication of maybe varnish buildup from the bike sitting or will ethanol discolor it? Is having to turn the pilot screw out 4 turns an indication that I have a stopped up low speed jet on the carb on #3 cyl? Will it hurt to leave the pilot screw out 4 turns? A lot of questions I know but hopefully someone can enlighten me. Thanks!

Low vacuum on one cylinder

2009 venture with 9500 miles. Switched the gauges around so I know it is not the gauges. -
Have a question. Is there a vacuum line diagram anywhere on line for a 2009 venture. What should the vacuum be on a at idle? what should it be at say 3500 rpm? I have one cylinder that has 5 CmHg lower reading than the other 3 cylinders. At idle 3 are reading 22 CmHg and the other reads 17 CmHg. at around 3500 or so They are all reading around 25 CmHg but the low one at idle is slow to come up to the 25 reading. Could this be a vacuum leak? I thought I read a post somewhere that said the vacuum should be around 37. I noticed this after running a tank of gas with a dose of seamfoam and resyncing the carbs afterwards. Still continue to have problem with popping on deceleration and also has an intermittent miss at crusing speed on a flat road. This is mainly in the lower rpm band. By the way the cyl with low vacuum is the left front. Any ideas anyone?

Rough idle and popping in exhaust
jowens replied to jowens's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
So not good idea to pull a plug wire while it is running. Oops. Thanks for the info -
Anyone planning to ride in the wounded warrior benefit ride on the tail of the dragon on aug 30th?. Looking to meet some of the venture riders in the local area. I am from easley, south carolina. Any locals in this area?

What would be a really good dose of seafoam. Would 16 ozs. In a half of tank of gas be too much?

Rough idle and popping in exhaust
jowens replied to jowens's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Got my carb sync gages in today. Work 2nd and couldn't wait till tomorrow. Was syncing my carbs at midnight. Well it did make a big difference and the bike runs a lot smoother but I think something is still alittle off. I did notice an improvement in the idle and the exhaust note changed on the right side. It was louder than the left, now it is about the same. The idle seems smoother. The test will be in the morning when I start it. It had gotten to the point that I had to choke it for a couple of minutes before it would idle with the choke off. Another thing I noticed before you could pull the plug wire on the right rear cylinder and there wouldn't be hardly any change in the engine rpms'. Now there is a noticeable difference in the rpms' when you pull that plug wire. The right 2 carbs were out a good bit, about 15 difference on my gauges. The left side wasn't bad, maybe 5 out. Once That was done the balance between both sides were the same so I didn't have to make that adjustment. The carb sync didn't seem to help the popping in the exhaust though, heck it may be a little worse now. One thing I failed to mention is I had the exhaust off about a month ago when I removed the rear wheel. Will pull them tomorrow and check the gaskets. Another dose of seafoam this weekend. Will give a further update later. -
I have had a 2009 RSV for alittle over a year. The bike has always had a rough idle but you used to be able to start it without the choke on a summer day for the first time and it would idle real low til it warmed up. Now when it was first started even on a summer day you have to choke it for the 1st minute or so or it will not run. The idle has gotten worse in the last month or so and now I notice a slight popping coming from the exhaust on the right side. I have ran plenty of sea foam through it and it did not help. I can pull the right rear spark plug wire and you only notice a slight difference and the popping all but disappears until I reconnect the spark plug wire. I have put new iridium plugs in it and switched the 2 ignition coils in the back which didn't make any difference. it smells like it is burning rich. Have a carburetor sync gage on order so that will be next. Have not taken the carbs off and cleaned yet. You can hear at certain rpm the engine sputter alittle and it is popping on the right side on deceleration. It only has 9000 miles and is still getting around 40 mpg. I think it could run alittle smoother at high rpms but it is not too bad. Any ideas?
