I am willing to try anything at this point!
-
I haven't tried mineral spirits but I have tried a heat gun. I heated it until it was too hot to touch and it still was like trying to get hardened bubble gum out of shag carpet.

I recently removed the front "eyelashes" from the fairing on my RSV. Most people that have done this recomended WD-40 to get rid of the sticky residue. That didn't work. So I went and bought some Goo Gone. I applied it as the directions read and it did no good. Then I decided to apply it and leave it for a few hours and see if it would soak in. That didn't work. I have tried rubbing alcohol, windex, and even at risk of harming the paint I tried acetone. NOTHING IS WORKING! I sat with the fairing on the floor and rubbed until my fingers were raw and only got about an inch clean on one side. HHHEEEELLLLPPPP!!! Short of sanding the paint off, I cannot think of anything else to try. On a plus note the Goo Gone did take the road tar and bugs off the lower fairing. I guess it wans't a total loss.

would you buy a RSV again?
Bubbajbi replied to stvmaier's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
YES!!! This is only the second bike I have owned. I have ridden a great number of bikes including the Harley equivilent of the RSV and I don't think that there is another bike out there that compares to the RSV especially for the price. I do hope that they make some changes in the next few years to the RSV (ie. fuel injection, in-dash CD ect.) but I would still buy one just because of the comfort and value and the fact that this bike comes with features that are STANDARD vs other bikes that you have to pay an arm-and-a-leg for. The RSV comes with a driver-passenger intercom standard. A friend of mine that has a harley bought an intercom system for his bike and had it installed by harley and it cost him $3k. That is proof enough to buy an RSV. -
Let me see how it looks when I get all the sticky off and I will let you know. If I don't want them they are yours, free. No need to charge a member for will put them to good use.

I know that Rich99 drives all kinds of trucks and equipment. Ask him.

Well, I got the bug last night and went out and tore into the bike. I finally did some things that I had been threatening to do for a while. 1) Re-routed the MP3 cable into the fairing. 2) Relocated the com cable to the left side of the handlebars 3) Changed the sparkplugs 4) Removed the CD changer cable 5) Cut down the windshield 6) Removed tank emblems 7) Removed front fairing chrome "eyelashes" 8) Installed custom tank bag I want to thank all the people that have posted ideas and help with all the items above. Everything that I read really helped and without it I would not have been able to do half of what I did. Thanks. I will post some pics when I get it all back together.

I never turn my fuel cock to off and have never had any problems. Recently I turned it to reserve and then to off and then back to on. I rode about 24 miles to Rich99's house to sync my carbs and when I got there he noticed that fuel was leaking from the front of the fuel cock where the switch was. No fuel was coming from around the hose. Just a slow drip. When I got back home, it had stopped and has not done it since but I have not moved the switch. This is my question. Can I just remove the fuel cock and take it apart and replace any o-rings that might be binding up or do I have to order a whole new one? Should I even worry about fixing it since it is no longer leaking? Please help! I do not want to catch fire riding down the road.

We do some training just outside of kirkland AFB. It is just west of the base and south of the airport. If you are a cop in NM then you have probably done some training there.

My profile tells you that I am a police officer. What it doesn't tell you is that I am a federal police officer. Most of the places that my job takes me to I cannot divulge to you. There is a small number of places that I have to go at random times that my wife does not even know where I am or have any contact with me for a day or two. On some rare occasions, I am not told where I am going untill the day before. The one place I can tell you about is New Mexico.

I have read numerous posts on bleeding the clutch but none tell exactly how. My question is this: Do you just bleed it like a brake line? I saw a thing on reverse bleeding but I do not have a pump to do that with. I there another way to reverse bleed. I have bled the brakes on many different cars, bikes and even a tractor or two but never have done a clutch. Any help would be...um...helpful. Thanks

My aunt is very close friends with the CEO of sales for Yamaha motors division. If someone drafted a letter and everyone signed it, she said she would be more than happy to hand deliver it to him. This would ensure that it was recieved and read by a real person.

What's the best Oil?
Bubbajbi replied to Bubbajbi's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Since the bike has a "wet clutch", does running regular car oil affect it? What viscosity to you run? I only have about 25k on my bike. -
I know I will get a great deal of varying oppinions on this subject, but I would like some input on real experiences. I changed the oil on my bike when I first got it back in April and just used the brand-X from the local motorcycle shop and a Fram filter. I am going to stick with the Fram filter but would like some input on what types of oil are good to use. Is there any oil that has improved performance, fuel mileage or just seemed to make the bike run smoother altogether? I need to change the oil next weekend (Sept. 15) so if anyone wants to chime in, now is the time. I appreciate any input.

After hearing about the story of who owns Citgo, I think my days of buying there are over as well. I think I will go back to shell. I do know one thing for sure and that is that I will not run Mobil in the bike anymore, especially in California. We are one of those states that has MTBE in it's fuel and I was told by a mechanic friend of mine that Exxon/Mobil has the highest percent of it in thier fuel. He said that if I really want to get good performance and mileage out of my bike, that I need to go out of state where they do not add MTBE. It is a waste product of refining that they ship to California because we will add it back into our fuel to be burned.

So here it is, Rich. I have been fuelling up at the Shell station on Vasco and Northfront in Livermore and my performance has improved. Now get this. The last two tanks have come from Citgo at the 7-11 on the corner of Vasco and Las Positas in Livermore and have gotten almost 200 miles out of each tank in the same to-and-from work riding conditions. I don't know how often you fill up there but you should try it. By the way I always use 91 octane. Just a little prefference of mine. Just thought I would let you know and others not in the area could try Citgo and post if they have seen a difference. Bubba:detective:

About how much in materials did it cost?

I usually run Shell gasoline in my bike (91 octane by choice only) and the bike runs just fine. Occasionally I will fuel up elswhere but there seems to be a great deal of shell stations around here. However, the last long trip I took (about 800 miles) I used my Mobil credit card and filled up there exclusively the whole trip. I noticed that the further into my trip the more the bike started running rough. I thought it needed new plugs or maybe a tune-up but after running just two tanks of Shell gasoline through it, the bike seems to be running just fine. Has anyone else experienced this or am I all alone? This doesn't happen it my truck or my wife's minivan. Is Mobil fuel of a lower quality?

I did that also, originally. The problem was that it is so hot here that it melted the adhesive on the velcro and the ipod started to fall off.

My aunt is good friends with the CEO of sales for Yamaha and he said that no information will be released untill the dealers meeting next month. I told her to bribe him but she said that he aint talking.

I thought about some subtle pinstriping throughout to tie it all together.
