pilot screw 5 turns out
scuff replied to Mike R's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I say easy way to find out if its the airbox is do what I did on my v-max get the duct tape out and start covering the hole your po made, put a piece of tape on it and ride it around, put some more on it and ride it around do that few time gradually covering the hole up until you have back to approx. stock size and see what that does should give you some more info to go on. oh and if your thinking about the DJ stage one kit, let me know i'll sell you the one out of my Max I don't like it, and not sure how it would work in a Venture, but everyone on the V-Max forum advises against the stage 1 -

What a deal getting a Venture for free ! lucky you, follow the wires coming out of your stator cover on the left side down by your foot, find the 3 wire connector and see what condition that is in that can help your slow start issue too may be corroded, but new 4 pole starter, upgraded battery and fatter wires would definitely help too but that all costs money cleaning all your connections is relatively cheap and easy, just sayin, good luck and happy riding !!! -

Mmmmmm.............. That's very interesting.....I've owned a v-max for about two years now and am a member of the VMOA website... all the guys over there talk about swapping out their V-max dif for a Venture I've read the the venture dif actually has a lower first gear due to the venture's extra weight and the 5th gear is taller, the gears in between are all the same, I'm no expert just telling what I have read, I know this if you want a V-Max rear dif and your willing to part with yours you would have no prob finding someone over there to swap you and maybe even give you some cash, your venture rear diff is desirable to V-Max guys...Have fun with your swap....oh and P.S. if you really wanna go fast get a V-Max !!!!!!!! LOL

Nice to hear you fixed it, instead of giving up and throwing things away, I feel like too many ppl just don't wanna bother and throw too many things away these days.

I would try run capacitor they're cheap, worth a try, from what I was seeing on youtube a lot of probs came down to just have to clean things up inside the motor i.e. electrical contacts and grease/replace bearings.
-
I just went thru the same thing, could be the start capacitor, I got one from Grainger for ten bucks, pull your old one off and read the specs find one on Grainger with similar specs and try it. It didn't fix mine. My prob was there is a centrifical switch inside the motor on the end of the shaft with two small springs, one of my springs broke and came off, wouldn't the the switch work properly and engage the start circuit, you have to take the motor apart to see if this might be your prob, for ten bucks wouldn't hurt to try the start capacitor first, youtube start capacitor or electric motor repair lot's of good vids to help you out.

ah um .....not to be rude but, I did...............it's a V-Max 1994 to be exact........thanx

Ok guy's looking for some real world advice, I have an 86 Venture Royale and I would love to use the intercom system. I have been looking on Ebay and have found a used 5 pin set up that would work with the existing factory system but I have two bike's so that one wouldn't be useable on my other bike. It has two full setups for about 175 w/shipping. I have also found some of the new smh 10 systems with 2 full setups for roughly 260 w/shipping. My dilemma is how good are these Bluetooth systems? Should I spend the extra dough? I don't really think I would use a system on my other bike,(it's a V-Max and the wife don't like riding it) but if I ever updated the Venture I don't think the 5 pin system is usable on the newer bikes either, but I would save bucks. I could use some advice what are you guys using? Pros-Cons Wired, Bluetooth, save money see how I like it? Spend money and take the chance I either won't like it or use it as much as I think?????? Look forward to your advice.
