  1. I have been reading this with quite a bit of interest since most of the replies seem to be North of the Mason/Dixon Line. Hummm, Yankees and Bar B Q Hummmm, something seems strange:stirthepot: Here in Texas we have found it best to cook with indirect heat. I use oak wood but some prefer mesquite Marinate your brisket, ribs, or pork shoulder for 12 to 24 hours before OR you can use a dry rub. I like to marinate mine to help keep it moist Start your oak fire and let the smoke turn clear (45 min to an hour) before you place the meat on the rack. Cook it at about 250 If you are cooking brisket place the meat with the fat side up. This will allow it to soak into the meat as it cooks and help keep it moist. Now some wrap the meat in tinfoil after a couple of hours to help reduce the smokey flavor. Try it and see how you like it as it will keep the juices in and kind of steams the meat as well Depending on the size, 6 to 8 hours should about do it and you should not have to add additional wood to kep the 250 range. Let me know how your next one turns out. As far as Yankees, anyone who knows me know I am just kidding but if you think your brisket is better than mine, I would be willing to ride up :900[1]:and sample yours. Just let me know when it is ready Ha!
  2. I rode to Galveston and back from Georgetown yesterday for a Birthday party. My Uncle who lives there told me he will "ride this one out" He stated he voted for Ike! He is 71 and pretty stubborn. The San Antonio and Austin area most likely will get a little wind and maybe some rain out of the deal. Been needing some all summer.
  3. Glad to hear everyone is OK. Good thing this storm was not as bad as some before it. As you know, my son is in Gulfport and he told me the wind has done the most damage. Again, happy to know you & family are fine.
  4. What would be your recommendation. I have the risers on now but I would rather have the bars placed whrer the rubber pads rest on the bars to keep the faring from moving. I guess I am asking does the TD bars come back farther than using the risers? How does it handle? It seems to me the TD bars being wider would be more comfortable on a longer tirp. You state you found them for around $90.00 I have only found them for $150.00 or so. Any help and or advise will be appreciated.
  5. Yes I do remember you did have them on your bike. I will look into them as I do want some extra room and a little wider. Hope you are bracing for the storm down there. My son is in Gulfport and he told me the Air Force is on "stand by" on the base. He is part of the team to assist others with leaving if needed. Stay in touch
  6. I am wanting to add with and length (pull back) to my 07 RSMV. I have risers but would like to have the bars much wider and be able to set back without reaching toward the bars. If anyone has made this change, I wouls appreciate you letting me know how it turned out. Also a part number and where you purchased them if possible
  7. I have been considering replacing my stock handlebars and would like opinions from some of you that have done the same. I know some talk about Flanders bars but what about the bars from a Tour Deluxe? The TD bars seem quite a bit wider and looks like they would come back much more than the stock bars. I have not seen the Flanders bars on another bike so I do not have anything to compare them with. Would the Flanders or the TD bars be the better choise? If so why?
  8. What size did you all buy? I have the stock on my 07 RSMV but was wanting to "see" over the shield. I was thinking about purchasing the 17" as it would be shorter but was wondering about the wind buffeting What do you think?
  9. I have a set of new Avons on mine Goose but yet to ride in the rain. Not that I have a big issue with it but it just has not rained here for too long. Glad to hear you did not have a problem.
  10. You can replace the bulb by turning the bars to the right and reaching into the bulb. It does take a little doing but it can (and has) been done. I removed the bulb with using a pair of needle nose pliers and my wife (much smaller hands) reached in and snapped it back in place.
  11. Since you now have them installed, do they provide more light? What wattage of bulbs are you running? I may be interested in your old ones if you want to get rid of them.
  12. I had a RoadStar before the Venture. Great Bike!! I think that V-twin is an excellent engine. I have a Solo seat and rails for a RoadStar like yours and I would make someone a good deal if they would be interested. All are like new. Appreciate letting the other RoadStar owners know if you are talking bikes someday to them someday. Anyway, enjoy your new bike!
  13. Lowell have a safe ride and enjoy yourself.
  14. Very glad to hear you and daughter are OK. We all need to remember.....an accident can happen any time...........hence the name. I know most times we do avoid trouble and riding styles do help but.............................an accident can happen any time!
  15. Thanks to all of you, Freebird V7Goose Squidley Black Owl Buddyrich Eck I appreciate your efforts toward this site and your support in all the other areas you assist in.
  16. South Texas is still pretty reasonable as far as the cost of housing. I have family there and go often. Let me know what questions you have and maybe I can help.
  17. I bought one to enhance the protection of the front and I think it is a very good product. 07 RSMV
  18. Tom, look behind you................you most likely forgot to unhook your new trailer and that is what is dragging your mileage down.
  19. Ride it back and save the money you would have paid for the trailer rental for gas!
  20. Both the hitch & the trailer look good Tom. Now I will be able to purchase items along the way when we do get a chance to ride and you can haul them for me! We need to get together with the wives and have a lunch sometime soon. Jim
  21. I also have installed the risers. 1 1/2" does make a BIG difference. I wanted to go with the Flanders bars (and I think I will later) but I could not justify putting new cables on my 07. Once I get a couple more years on it, I will most likely change but as of now, I like the risers and the price. The only issue I have is the plastic center piece will be hit when I turn very sharp but is flexes so it is not a problem. Put them on......you will like the difference.
  22. I appreciate the offer. What are you doing on the site, I thought you were supposed to be working? Anyhoo, I am sure I can strap it down to secure it but where do you place the straps on the front?
  23. As I have never trailered my RSMV, my question is where do you place the tie downs on the front of the bike? I have a 5x10 and my wife is wanting to trailer it a distance then spend the weekend riding around the area. (location unknown to date) I have good secure places on the trailer but I have not quite figured out where to place the straps to hold the front. I have vents attached to the front engine guards so I can not tie it there. Any help will be appreciated.
  24. I want to extend an invitation to you folks up in the Dallas and surrounding areas to come on down to the Salt Lick this Sunday. Several of us plan to meet at 11:00 and if folks want do a little riding afterward great......but for sure a ride to get there. A map and directions are posted under the Meet & Eat Forum.
  25. Wanted a scale model for a long time. I am interested and waiting for additional details. Thanks BYW, Midnight Black would be just fine!
