Barons Tach Install - Wiring
Bodaggit23 replied to coop's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I'm adding a tach to my bike as well and just trying to confirm: Did you in fact move your coil lead (trigger wire) to the white wire from coil 4 Bob? -
I was looking for the manual for my 1997 RSTD and stumbled here. Sadly, the manual is not available here, but I found a site and purchased a download.

A 1996 Tour Deluxe? -
There's NOWHERE I need to be badly enough to require that road. Adrenaline junkies have at it!

Bodaggit23 replied to Sexagenarian's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
All the rubber was still in good shape. (bike has 15,000 miles on it) Thanks for the part numbers though, I need to get a copy of the manual yet. -

I finally drained my tank today and pulled the petcock off and sure enough, the long stand pipe ("ON" position) was missing. I took the tank off and tried to rattle the pipe to the filler hole but....it's like it's not in there...so either it dissolved or it's stuck to the tank inside somewhere. lol Anyway, my el cheapo fix was a trip to the hardware store for 3" of 1/4" copper tube, which I flared slightly and squeezed into the hole. They sold the stuff by the foot and just gave the tube to me because it wasn't worth ringing up. Woohoo! -
That is my standard as well.

RSTD wakes up
Bodaggit23 replied to Illinois's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Excellent, thanks guys! Will the leveling links work for my 1997 RSTD? Also, is it the general consensus that Bias Ply tires should be used on these bikes? I've read more bad than good about radials on bikes, just curious. My bike is a torque monster and I have a heavy throttle hand...I'll need to know soon. -

Where is that tech section at? Very interested in these "leveling links". -
97 RSTD speed bleeders

What is a speed bleeder? An apparatus that lets you quickly and easily bleed brakes by yourself? -
"Generation" Question
Bodaggit23 replied to Bodaggit23's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Wow, that review is harsh...2 of 5 stars on Value and Ride/Handling? Anyway, that page does list the rated HP and Top Speed though, would be nice to get that info added to the History Page. Regarding the PM, the second link you posted contains the PDF's you speak of I believe, thank you very much for that! -
"Generation" Question
Bodaggit23 replied to Bodaggit23's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Does anyone know the rated horsepower of the 1997 Tour Deluxe? Is it a 70 degree V-Four? Those two tidbits seem to be missing. Also the color schemes for the Tour Deluxe only go back to 2005. -
"Generation" Question
Bodaggit23 replied to Bodaggit23's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Oh man...whoa... That's exactly what I was looking for, my apologies! Thanks! -
I see many threads referring to 1st, 2nd, etc. generation of venture bikes. Is there a resource that shows what 1st Gen bikes look like and what features set them aside from the next gen? Wiki falls short from what I've seen.

starter relay i think
Bodaggit23 replied to clydegator's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
My first thought was hydrolocked but jumping the relay wouldn't have got you started. I'd say you are correct. -
1997 RSTD Front Fender Emblem?
Bodaggit23 replied to Bodaggit23's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Excellent information, thank you to everyone that replied! Just need to say, I've never been in love with a bike like I am with this one. The comfort, the gearing, the power, the SOUND...I just love everything about it... Side note: My buddy just bought a 2012 Vulcan Nomad 1700 and we rode together last week with the wives. He kept asking me had I removed the baffles from my pipes because of how great it sounds...you can barely hear his machine because they have it choked out so much... -
1997 RSTD Front Fender Emblem?
Bodaggit23 replied to Bodaggit23's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
If it's not a Tour Deluxe then what is it? According to the title and VIN# it's an XVZ13LT http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t113/Motovader72/Royal%20Star/Profile.jpg -
1997 RSTD Front Fender Emblem?
Bodaggit23 replied to Bodaggit23's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Well I can't argue with the fender emblem, I could take it or leave it, especially since I can only find them online for about $50 each. But the tank chrome, I've seen pics of bikes without it and to me it's a must have. -
1997 RSTD Front Fender Emblem?
Bodaggit23 replied to Bodaggit23's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I could see that being the case if they were bolt on because then they would be easy to remove but then you'd be left with empty holes in the fender. As it appears, they must be mounted with adhesive of some sort because my fender has no holes for mounting. Everyone knows how fun it can be to remove adhesive from paint you don't want scratched. Can take quite some effort. I really have no clue, which is why I'm asking, and all input is appreciated. I thought they may have been an after thought maybe, possibly added later in the model year.? Has anyone noticed any later models than 1997 without the insignia on the fender? -

So are you referring to parts 25 and 28? I suppose they come in a rebuild kit... Is it more likely that this is my issue versus the standpipe? I'm going to pull the petcock this weekend to see for sure. -

Yes, it runs fine in both "ON" and "RESERVE" positions. I'll update my post to include the year and model of my bike too, sorry. -
no Reserve Fuel
Bodaggit23 replied to Sexagenarian's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Yay, first post and it's a bump on an old thread, everyone's two favorite things on a forum! Anyway, sorry, the third most annoying thing would have been to post a new thread without searching for the topic first so, hey, 2 out of 3 isn't bad right? So, the same thing has just happened to me yesterday. I recently inherited a 1997 Royal Star Tour Deluxe. (absolutely love it) (I grew up on dirt bikes and petcocks and most were the same. Long leg of the petcock was the pointer and most often DOWN was "ON", UP was "RESERVE", and forward or backward was "OFF") According to the only way my petcock can find it's way to "OFF" is long leg FORWARD, which means "ON" is DOWN and "RESERVE" is UP. Ok... My Low Fuel Light works but like most I don't trust it. So I set out to find how many miles I can go with the two petcock positions. Filled up with gas and off we went with the petcock in the "ON" position or DOWN. From a full tank we rode 125 miles before the Low Fuel Light came on. Mental note taken. I rode until I had 170 miles on the tank and it started to sputter...so I flipped the petcock to "RESERVE" or UP and waited for it to catch it's breath again.........It never did. I pushed it to the side of the road and opened the tank, only to find a desert. Bone dry. I thought the only possible way for this to happen was the stem to fall off inside the tank, which I never heard of happening before, or I had the orientation backwards, which would have made no sense. I have yet to remove the tank to find out for sure but reading this thread at least helps me feel a little better about my hunch. I'll try to post back when I find the ambition to pull the petcock and find out for sure. Thanks for the great forum and information! Sincerely, Dean
