  1. Signature test **EDIT** Woohoo!
  2. I hooked up the "single fire adapter" to two coils and it reads perfectly now! I used both rear coils (yellow and orange wires). Thanks to everyone that read and commented on this, could not have done it without the input from this site! *clicks link to subscribe and become supporting member*
  3. Why the switch, if you don't mind me asking?
  4. That's a good deal as well! I just don't like waiting.
  5. I love the look of the brown seat and bags. How much did a Tour Classic cost the same year? Not sure it would have been worth the extra money for brown bags and a custom tank. IMHO
  6. This is where I get all my manuals from. Extremely cheap compared to the paper versions. I'm pretty sure it's illegal to share copyrighted material so you might have to bite the bullet and just buy it. Tradebit.com 1995 Honda Goldwing Downloads
  7. From all I've been able to find, the 1996-2001 have 74HP. Only been able to find that in a couple locations: http://www.motorcyclenews.com/mcn/bikereviews/searchresults/bike-reviews/yamaha/yamaha-xvz1300a-royal-star-1996-2001-/ http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/yamaha_xvz_1300_a_royal_star_1996.php According to the Venture History page, 1999-Present have a 98HP engine. They look the same, have the same bore/stroke/compression ratio...but 98HP This is a big part of the reason why I question whether the later model bikes are considered a 2nd Gen. Royal Star...?
  8. Right click on the image and it will stop playing. There is a menu that pops up but the main point being the right click stops the slideshow. If you right click in the upper right corner, the menu will be out of the way enough to see the picture. Left click outside the image to resume slideshow.
  9. LOL Hahahahaha! That's great!
  10. Thank you! That's quite a sale...I wish they made a front WWW that fit my bike
  11. Can't find a "JCCycle". Did you mean "J&P Cycle"?
  12. I actually found it right after this post! Hahaha This place is great!
  13. So, is it true that the 1996-2001 are First Generation Royal Star? The older bikes are First and Second generation Ventures, correct?
  14. Sorry, I didn't see this post. I made my own post and was watching that one. I actually bought the caps and diodes and made an adapter myself for three bucks. lol I just need to remember or find where it's posted: Which other coil wire I need or if it even matters. I thought I read the two coils used were supposed to be the right side coils.
  15. I got the components, $3.20 later, all put together. It may be a few days before I get it installed. I need to look back and make sure which other coil wire I need. Is it the front coil on the same side, or the other rear coil, or does it matter? ***EDIT*** I found the post! Woohoo! That makes life much much easier! The front coils are WAY easier to get to.
  16. Thank you all for your input! I agree, 2000rpm would be too soon to shift, which is why I questioned the accuracy. You are correct, I have the manual for 1996-2001 and it states approx 6,000 r/min. That's the first thing I tried... It is set on 4 cyl. If I switch to 6 cyl. the RPM drops lower. A switch to 8 cyl. drops the RPM yet again. That makes sense...although to my ears, 2000rpm on my tach (4000rpm actual) seems too high! lol I rarely push that hard. That is excellent! I saw that a couple weeks ago but wasn't sure what it meant... Makes much more sense now! lol I may try creating the little gizmo if I can find the parts, it seems simple enough. Thank you all again for your most valuable input! And thank you for not flaming my hose clamp mount!
  17. So I successfully installed an el cheapo tach from Harbor Freight. Basically I used the cheapie as an excuse to create a wire harness for a nicer tach in the future. I used the yellow wire from the right rear coil as suggested by coop for the trigger and ran the other wires into a length of 3/8" split flex tubing, under the tank, up to the triple trees where I'll be installing a 4-5 pin plug. For now it's hard wired, but you get the idea. The tach works "perfectly", smooth sweep and very responsive. The yellow wire was an excellent choice, thanks coop! My question is, does my bike idle at 400RPM? I thought I read somewhere they idle around 1000ish. Or no? The rev limiter is set around 6000RPM but on this tach, to me, 2000RPM is painful...I almost never push that hard before a shift.. I think it reads low...confirm? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4MMoKy6I3Y
  18. It works! I wired the trigger to the Yellow wire on the right rear coil and it works perfectly smooth. I think my el cheapo tach is way off though. It says I'm idling at about 400RPM. To my ear, 2000 is my redline. lol Doesn't matter much I guess, I wanted it more for pack riding, when I can't hear my own exhaust over the "Big Twins". Anyway, just confirming the yellow wire from the right rear coil does indeed send a flawless signal. Thanks! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4MMoKy6I3Y
  19. I understand that point of view perfectly, thank you for taking the time to reply. Btw, this was a Washington bike until I brought it home to North Dakota in May. Thanks for the pic but it sort of looks the same to me...? Both open in the center. Also, the model number on my pipes is 4YE-2, the one in your pic is 4XY-2...if that matters? Not arguing, just trying to understand how it would have been removed. Thank you sincerely for replying...sorry I had to beg. *wink*
  20. Almost 100 views and zero feedback...must not be as useful as I thought. lol
  21. No one has a picture of what the exhaust looks like with the baffle in? Are the baffles really removed? Does anyone think it sounds good? Like crap? Is removing the baffles bad or taboo? 108 views on this thread and I get one response...
  22. That's interesting...and why it sounds so badass! Haha! Anyone have a pic of what it's supposed to look like? ***EDIT*** I thought the tube was the baffle...there's definitely nothing in the tube now. lol
  23. I've had lots of comments on my exhaust..."is that stock?" "Did you drill the baffles out?" I don't have a GoPro so I recorded in HD and just used the audio for a short slideshow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJKmoAivSeE&feature=youtu.be
  24. That's interesting, thanks so much for checking into it for me! I've got it narrowed down far enough to try it I guess, if it doesn't work I'll just try the next coil. Thanks again!
