Thanks for clearing that up. I was ....curious! And you can add my good wishes that you (and the bike) came through unscathed. It's always good to hear about good outcomes.

I may have missed something in some other threads on this site on this specific subject, but looking at the pics...did they use ANY of the commonly accepted as appropriate, tie down points to anchor that puppy on the roll-back? Or do I just have my head planted (and no you don't really have to answer that)

guy says: "I don't know! When the snow finally melted, it was just there!" First confirmed case of Alien abduction & mutilation of a vehicle! "When I parked it it was an '84 Ford" "That's what you get for screwing around with Nitrous oxide!" New World's strongest man competition event---"Bike tossing" "When I said find something to cover the hole in the roof before it rains, I ASSUMED you'd use a tarp or a piece of wood!"

What they said!!!!!!! Ditto...

Got mine...thanks

gave your original post a bump...it's at the top of the page now

Sometimes, I feel almost guilty about it........almost!

I still have one, but I don't carry it on my keyring because it keeps poking holes in my pocket (catches on the inner pocket material and pulls till the pocket's toast). It's always good for a can of tuna or soup or beanie-weenies or a can of coffee. OR if you're STILL trying to get through all the extra rations you got for Y2K, it's great!!! :rotf::rotf:

I had the 850! Loved that bike. Never failed me once. I don't know the difference in tank capacity between 650 & 850 (if any), but mine got 50+mpg unless I was horsing around. It would seem the mpg should offset the difference in tank between the 650 & the venture

Hey, Captn.. There was a thread the other day tht got into the bias vs radial deal! I think the gist of it was....NO to radials. Bike nor the rims are designed for 'em. Here's the thread... Kit had a good bit to say about it. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=20442

Beautiful country ya got there, guys. As far as the "honeycomb", I think Honey's headed in the right direction, but I don't think that's shale. There is a lot of shale in WV (coal mines!) If memory serves, there's lots of limestone around there as well complete with natural caves. Given the streams and creeks, there is an abundance of subterrainean water, so all things considered, I vote for water on limestone...but I don't think recently at all. Looking at the close-ups there's a lot of fungus and moss, so there may well be occasional waterflow out of the fractures, enough to cause the erosion pattern you see there. Since I'm neither a geologist nor a hydrologist, anything I come up with is strictly peanut gallery speculation. (sure sounds good though doesn't it? ) That's my nickel's worth!

Less Harley-esque look, modern but not retro-nuveau like the "liners" (they're ok, I just think the Venture should be different from them) 'Wings are recognizable at a glance, everything else looks like some form of Harley. I feel The Venture can and should have that same kind of instant recognition. definitely the brake, electrical, EFI upgrades mentioned, reverse & GAUGES...86 the cassette, get mp3. v6 would be nice. Kaw had a transverse 6, Honda has a flat 6 (had a transverse 6 too, yrs ago); no reason Yamaha/star can't have a v6. At least 1800cc. It could even be longitudinal like a Guzzi or or an Honda ST, instead of transverse like the current v4. If they feel they can't go outside the v4/vmax box, at least don't detune it so much. Hey, this is just me thinkin out loud! Before I get fragged, no I don't have one currently, I have the RSTD and a 1500 'Wing. I've been toying with the idea of consolidating, but I want to see what comes in the new Venture or I may just keep what I have now. Don't know yet.......

Looking for photo of 99 RSV two tone silver with white walls

nkbjones, Not Ventures and neither one is silver, but whitewalls they are. Mine's on the left. -
cecdoo, No, she's long since gone. Bought in '82, sold in '85. At the time, I had been riding her to work everyday rain or shine, warm or cold; and more for fun. If I'd had an inkling that it would be '07 before I got around to getting another bike, I might have kept it. A lot of changes since then...the one's that matter are all for the better, so I'm blessed. Just watched "The Passion" again! Got to me just as much as the first time, when I saw it at the theater! We'll talk about that some other time, some other venue.

It is my intense desire that all of the folks here have a safe day tomorrow and be mindful of true meaning of sacrifice this Easter. God Bless! If I get this to load..this is me when the bike I'm sitting on was new!

"looks" like a shorty? If it was curved more, and tilted back more and you couldn't see the rest of the bike....you'd think it was a cafe racer!:rotf: This was a heck of a lot funnier when I thought it it followed right after dunvilsteev's post

jt, I thought that might be the case; but I didn't think of it till after I had logged off from the last session. oh well. Spear, Congratulations. It was a little pixelated when I blew it up, but she's a pretty girl with a pretty smile. Looks like your son did quite well for himself. Wish them well for me.

That particular time, I just lost track of time. Happens alot when you don't sleep much and are still up at 3, 4, 5:00 in the AM. I do some of my best reading in the wee hours.

Ditto on likin the fence! I thought about some of that on sides & front of my place. My place is flat as a frypan though. Hill makes a big difference, looks better. You asked for input and I'm nothing if not opinionated, so...... What, if anything are you planning to do in front of the fencing and down the hill to the ditch line by the road? I noticed in one of the pics, that there was some erosion. It's a lot of footage and labor for rock/rubble (rip/rap) and probably a fair expense for material, but it would be a more or less permanent fix and it would be easy to maintain..Big jug of roundup! (you could also put in some well placed hardy, rock garden type plantings to dress it up) Alternately, a low ground cover (phlox/an ivy/creeping something or other with or without flowers) or a low habit evergreen (stinky, but effective & low maintenance). Just don't get kudzu anywhere near the place or pampas grass (if it grows there) If they get in, you'll never get rid of them. (After a year with kudzu, we'd have to send in the Nat'l Guard to find you and the house!) That's my input folks, for what it's worth.
