After much to-do, I finally settled on a Garmin C580. Got a good deal ( I think) at ~$183 new in the box..not refurbed. I just couldn't bring myself to pay 2-3 times that for a Zumo. (or any of the other m/c specific units) Bought the appropriate RAM mount components to swap the unit back & forth between bikes and over to the truck on occasion. I still have to add aux power outlets to both bikes for the pwr plug (It's got some integral gizmo for MSNdirect). OK....yada, yada, yada....bluetooth...blah, blah, blah and so on! Now, to the point! The C580 (not being a motorcycle friendly unit) has a pop-on, pop-off ball-socket on the back, that I wouldn't want to trust to resist a sharp bump in the road and not be rolling down the road after me at 60mph or so. I recall seeing some GPS post recommending tethering GPS units to avoid such an incident as I described above. The question is ....HOW? So, here I am.....asking for opinions or recommendations/ideas as to tethering solutions. I have a couple of ideas, but I'd like you folks input before I decide what I'm going to do. How'd you do yours (if you did), or maybe one you saw that was neat or whatever!!! Thanks for any input!!!!

For what it's worth, if Kromewerks is at all like Cobra they won't need the packing. I even called about it at the time and they said just bolt 'em on and be done with it. Don't lnow about yours.

I've got the most recent previous version and the camera part is great. Sound sucks in a big way and theres not really any way to fix it. Although, I did talk to a guy and he said that if you can get the little screws off and remove the mic cover and then remove the membrane & reassemble the sound is much improved. Making the mod however defeats the waterproof part. I put it on the helmet...the handlebar gives it way too much jitter. You have to play with the resolution too. As in the digital cameras, the higher the res the shorter the duration. I think it only take a max of a 2gig sd card. All in all, pretty neat for the money. I'll look up the vendor I bought from and post it back here...prices were much better.

Very limited I expect. I hope they have mass quantities of insurance when they do. Otherwise they may have to rename it "blunderbus"

The thought of cold water at other than garden hose pressure on hot parts & electronics makes me cringe! Could you do that regularly, over time, without hurting anything?

Yeaah........What Lone Eagle said! Ive come very near losing both (not at the same time mind you) a ball cap and a dew-rag. Hmmmm, might have to get off my wallet one more time. And Rich....I swear I'm not hallucinating, but I remember seeing something, somewhere that someone had come up with exactly that....A/C for M/Cs. It must have been before I bought an actual touring bike, because i didn't copy any of the info. (which I usually do for stuff I'm even remotely interested in) Then again, I turned 60 yesterday (yeah..9/11) and I could be having a very senior moment!!!!!

Gary....................I have no words.....all I can do is pray; and I do so now. You're in our thoughts, my brother.

I agree with these guys. If you can get it at a good price and the condition/miles are good, go for it! Ive got a '90 'Wing and it is one heck of a machine. She loves cruisin' at interstate speeds! The only thing I don't like particularly is the peg position (I've got some new boards coming to cure that). There's still a good number of accessories and add-ons available as well as replacement and used parts, should you choose to doll it up more. Good luck, whatever your choice! Can't stand it...had to show my favorite toys. (I need to update the rear view pic. of the Wing..I changed mufflers & deleted the lower valence panel--much cleaner look)

Well, how about that?? Congratulations Bill!

Rick, Thanks for notifying us. Thank God it wasn't worse. Prayer is up for rapid, complete and undramatic return to full health at 100%...

What they said!!! Now, get a room already!

Assuming that Yamaha would cover it, they wouldn't go backwards on the basket series would they? Or, did you mean replace the "H" with the "I"? I was under the impression that the "I" WAS the fix! Pulling an "I" and going back with an "H"...I haven't seen anything on that change anywhere! I haven't paid real close attention because I didn't plan to do anything to mine any time soon.

Hope your son heals properly and doesn't need surgery! I would not cut the insurance co. any slack and force them to cover ALL medical costs. Since they copped to 100% liability on their insured's part, you should be able to get that. I would get their admission of 100% liability in writing, first though, before I started hammering them. If they balk, then pour it on! Take no prisoners!!

Oh, Man! Sorry to hear that. But, as others have said, it's great that you two didn't get hurt any worse than you did. I hate that your bike bought it, though! Hope you heal up quickly and find a nice replacement bike.
