The only "white gas" I've ever heard of was gasoline from Amoco, right at the pump. It bore no resemblance to kerosene though, other being liquid and petroleum based. I know BP acquired Amoco, but I believe the fuel is still Amoco (at least around here it is) I'd have to re-read & go with whatever the directions said!

Fozzy, looks like you did real well, with that place. I'm proud for you!

That sure looks like a manufacturing defect to me. The casing and the layered tread rubber totally separated! Good gosh...I sure am glad you had the sidecar on. The only tires I've ever seen fail like that are car & truck re-treads that heat up from under-inflation. Never seen it in a "new", first run tire. What's the date code on that puppy?

Reminds me of the late '60s: I was in the Air Force, newly married and stationed in Biloxi, MS. We decided to go over to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. We were at the curb watching the floats, listening to the shouts of "Mister, Mister throw one to me". I threw my arm up to get a momento for my wife. The guy tossed one toward me but it was a little short and landed at my feet. I bent down to get it and this little old lady came out of nowhere and stomped all over my hand. Needless to say, she got it and I didn't. People get crazy about "stuff"! Plus at Mardi-Gras, most were sloshed as well, which doesn't help. That particular year was when somebody tossing a brick at somebody, hit AL Hirt in the mouth and nearly ended his career as a jazz musician. I've had no desire to return.

Yeah, what flb_78 said. I'ts not at all greasy or oily. Since it's seared outside the meat remains moist and very flavorful. I was resistant myself until I tried some. Good stuff and it's something the men can do that gives the women a bit of a break & it frees up the oven for other goodies like brocolli casserole and stuffing and pies........I gotta go to the kitchen again! Oh yeah, if you do try it, thaw the bird completely and "ease" it into the oil. (do a trial fit using water and the bird in the pot, to find out exactly how much oil you will need.

In this jurisdiction, the ticket (if I just pay it) is $185. By showing up at court, the amount is reduced and any points are reduced or eliminated. If the cop doesn't show, it gets tossed. If he does, he can effectively get the charge reduced to a lesser infraction.

There's a whole rash of things being done to try to stop the city. There's a couple of lawsuits, as well. I was serious though, in one fell swoop, they passed 15 ordinances relating to motorcycles and the rallies. They're changing vendor permitting, numbers of vendors & where. They set noise levels for bikes at 89dB @ 20 inches from the pipe (factory Harleys were failing at 87 (my 4 Cobra drag-pipes with baffles got by at 85dB. Helmets within city limits, etc. (that one was supposed to go into effect on 12/21, but go pushed back to Feb.(there's still questions about legality since the state doesn't require a helmet for adults. AND there's the mandated tighter enforcement on motorcycles.

"you're so ugly, when you were born, they slapped your mama!" "The difference between the military and the Boy Scouts is that the Boy Scouts have adult leadership" "If brains were gas, you wouldn't have enough to power a pisant's motorscooter around the inside of a Cheerio" "Your girlfriend is so ugly, when she cries, the tears run down the back of her head to keep from coming toward her face!" "Yeah, and you can breathe under water too, if you do it really, really slow!" "No, farting is NOT an olympic event!" "See that swamp, that's where your REAL parents live" "What do you mean, oops??" "Keep buggin me about it and I swear, I'll staple it to your leg while you're asleep" He's as nervous as a one legged man in a butt-kickin contest. "One a scale of one to ten, you're still a moron" and my personal favorite, actually witnessed in my neighborhood when I was a kid: "I don't care if you are Santa Claus, get the heck off my roof!"

Wasn't actually a speed trap. City has mandated increased enforcement on bikers, period! They've instituted 15 new ordinances, ramped up enforcement and are determined to eliminate the bike rally's by making life more difficult. (at least in Myrtle Beach proper). MB stepped out and started this junk and haven't gotten the rubber stamp support from either surrounding communities or the County. (serves them right....hope it bites them in the posterior) But, that's a different discussion! This particular instance was in a retail district with distinct & separate thru traffic & turn lanes.

I ask this because I got a ticket on my bike today. I was in light to moderate traffic, and was driving the traffic rather than watching the speedo. A motorcycle cop got me for 41 in a 25 mph zone. I truthfully thought it was 35, but that's not the issue. For the cop and the city of Myrtle Beach, it's all about the speed limit. They are determined to make it difficult for bikers in the city properby ticketing every possible infraction. I'm not upset with the cop mind you, he's just doing his job the way he's been told to do it. In fact he was almost apologetic about it and reminded me 3 times that if I will show up on the court date he could help me out. I've talked to other officers (friends) before in other situations and they have pretty much all said the same thing: In the car, they're more inclined to do the speed limit and watch the speedo more often; when on the bike, in heavier traffic, they do what I was doing....tend to drive the traffic rather than the speedometer. And there is the rub! Darned if you do and darned if you don't. Around here, moreso than other places, for many reasons, if you rigidly stick to the speed limits, you're gonna make people mad and/or get run over or into or off the road! I was over the posted limit, yes, but I feel I was safer doing it. That's not to say I disregard the speed limits altogether, I'm just more concerned with the traffic, when on the bike. So, what is your opinion or practice? Speed limit or traffic? What do you use as your guide?

All very true. My point was simply that we (my friend & I) can have a heated verbal gunfight and we don't call names; we don't say things about parentage, etc.; we don't imply stupidity on the others part....and when we're done we part on good terms & as friends, have a good laugh (if the subject warrrants) and agree to do it again sometime. I prefer keeping it on an even keel, because I want to learn about the person....what makes him tick and what I might use in later conversations to get an edge. I can't do that if we're bordering on out of control. But, there are some people and certain times..........Well, you know!

Is that like never ever again or talk to me about it next year sometime? That would be a bummer if she stopped all together. (In which case, I am really sorry to hear that...for her and you.......I would understand it, but it would still be a bummer) On the other hand, pooch isn't gonna complain about your driving or the extra DQ stops!

I put some on my Goldwing, I like a flatfooted feel rather than a peg.

Very nice! I've got a '90 myself...same color. Love that motor! I see yours has a lot of the add-on, chrome goodies. Be sure to post a bunch of pics in your profile (and a few more of the Venture, as well) Enjoy!

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?
autopilot replied to Yama Mama's topic in Watering Hole
Congratulations my brother! I'm thankful for being loved by God, my wife, family and my friends (yes I actually have some). I'm thankful for having been born in America, even with all it's warts & troubles. I'm thankful for my life, whatever that means and whatever it brings. AND, I too am thankful for Ventureriders.org and our members...all of them, even the ones with more warts than me! -
The process is always the same... subject is brought up with an opinion stated. That in & of itself isn't a bad thing. Problem is that there is usually a fair amount of emotion attached to it; again, not necessarily a bad thing, by itself. Where it goes south is that the opinion stated invariably strikes a nerve with someone of the opposite opinion. By itself, striking a nerve wouldn't be a bad thing, but what usually follows is a personal slam which as we all know usually results in chaos! My question is: why is someones opinion on a subject, taken as a personal slam, just because it is disagrees with your own? Correspondingly, why does the responder feel the need to inject a personal jab? I mean, I lnow perfectly well, that people disagreeing with me are unintelligent, boring, misguided, underinformed boobs. I understand that, so if they're not swift enough to "get" it, it's no big deal. I know the only recourse for them, being in an inferior position in the debate is to try to make some lame crack on me, and since I know this ahead of time, I dismiss it and them out of hand. (and yes, that was some very dry sarcasm) I wish we here could be like my neighbor and I about this stuff. Example: Saturday, we had a "very" spirited political discussion down at the corner country store. It lasted a hour or so, never devolved into personal attacks and when we were done, we laughed about it because we both understand how the game is played and are willing to keep it inside boundaries. The best part is that we have both learned a few things, conceded a couple of things here and there and most important, we have become good friends with genuine respect for each other. (considering I'm an educated, retired, "yankee, city-boy, transplanted, professional" in a semi-rural southern farming community, I think that's pretty darn good) One last thought (which will hack somebody off [i forget who] because of a religious connotation but...) Proverbs 9:8 says "Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee." Proverbs 9:9 says Give [instruction] to a wise [man], and he will be yet wiser: teach a just [man], and he will increase in learning. The point? Try to be a wise man! .......When facts warrant, change your opinion; just don't compromise your values! I'm done!

Biker shot in back. Shooter claims self defense
autopilot replied to royalstarjac's topic in Watering Hole
Bill, I'm not so sure about the premeditation or involuntary part. The girls called home some period of time prior to actually getting there. He got the gun and waited till the young man passed by in one direction..several minutes pass, then the young man passes by in the other direction, and is shot from behind. That and Gear lied about the point on the victims body where he shot him. Said he fired facing the guy, when in fact he shot him in the back! Even if they don't go after him for premeditation, there was nothing involuntary about it. I'd say more likely man-1. I think Gear will have a hard time proving that he DIDN'T have every intention of trying to shoot to kill the young man, particularly given prior acts, timing of the events, his attempts to make it look like self defense and his own relatives testimonies that dispute Gears story. If you're an minimally skilled, minimally trained, you don't shoot directly at a person to try to scare them (if that were your intent), without knowing you MIGHT very well kill them. If you DO have any training and/or skill and shoot directly at someone, you obviously intend to try to kill them (unless you're very highly skilled, then you could merely wound them; so again, if you killed them, it would be intentional and I believe from the available evidence so far premeditated or man-1, as above.) I also think that if they convict the father of murder and can show that those girls lied about who hit who and that they embellished the story to their parents to stay out of trouble, my opinion is that they should be charged with "accessory (before the fact) to murder". They might well get off, but the process and the prospect of jail or worse should put the fear of God in them and make them think before they ever did anything similar again! But that assumes they even get charged. And for what it's worth, I (nor anyone else) don't need to follow anybody home in this situation. If I have make, model, color of the vehicle, occupant descriptions and tag number, I can find out where they live or leave it to the cops when I file a hit & run complaint. OK, I'm done -
I would still be interested in your evaluation after you receive them and wear them a little. Your opinion as a biker and a fellow club member is more valuable to me than what may be posted on Cabela's. Here we have commonality of use and purpose. The fact that some camping guy is happy as a clam in the cold with them doesn't carry the weight of a biker doing 60 or 70 mph down the slab and keeping his hands warm!

I understand what you're saying, but think about it....trade & commerce IS information sharing, albeit a bit lopsided. The problem is that it was never anticipated to get this big and the architecture of the system as a whole can't cope! IMHO

Biker shot in back. Shooter claims self defense
autopilot replied to royalstarjac's topic in Watering Hole
Glancing at some of the comments on the linked article, it seems the guy has stage 4 kidney failure, but that wouldn't affect his mind. Another indicated that there was at least one other "incident" involving Gear, his daughters and a gun, a couple of years ago! (not involving the young man) I think the "illness" is a ploy to garner sympathy from the jury. If he actually has a functional, mental problem, why on earth would his wife tell him to go get the gun and why would he still be permitted have one in his posession, especially, given the previous incident? I don't know the area, there, but if the kid were not familar with this specific neighborhood, wouldn't it be logical for him to turn around and ride out the way he came in?? This whole thing reminds me of this old sourpuss tobacco farmer around here. For years and years, he has said things, made threats, done some off-handed and back-handed things to people and has gotten away with it all this time because everybody knows him and "Aw, that's just him, he'll blow up & off, then he'll cool off and you won't hear anything more about it". Or, they don't want to provoke him more. Well, a little while back, he got his britches in a wad, started shooting off his mouth, pulled a knife and threatened this young, new county cop (well known to the area and to the old guy). He was warned and in front of witnesses...the cop had no choice but to hook him up and take him in! The point is that my "old guy" should have been called on his actions a long time ago and wasn't, so he basically thought he could do whatever he darn well felt like and get away with it and did pretty much, right up to the point our young cop set him straight. I have a feeling this guy Gear may be a similar personality. But, no matter what the situation, the young man was shot going away. It's a lousy, cowardly thing to do and a lousy way for the young man to have to die (not that any of them are any good)! -
I'm with him.
