  1. The clearcoat is peeling off the top of my 05 Dodge Magnum and one of my neighbors told me about this shop that painted his car that was in the same condition. Anyhow, I went to the shop and it was a large shop. The owner told me that 75% of their work was rebuilding totalled cars he bought from insurance companies and selling them. He must have been plenty busy because the price he quoted me was no cheaper than other high dollar shops (at least 4 times what he charged my neighbor) and he wanted the car for a month in order to paint it. I only have liability on my 05 Dodge Magnum RT and my 02 F150 Lariat 4x4. Neither of them owe me anything. If they get wrecked or the engine blows, off to the salvage yard they go. They are both good vehicles though. I drove the F150 on a 6,100 mile vacation trip to the Glacier National Park in Montana last September. The last time we went to the FL Keys, I drove the Magnum because it's roomier and more comfortable than my wife's 2013 Infiniti EX37. The Hemi Magnum is a terrific trip vehicle, very comfy and plenty of power to blow past anyone you want to on the interstate.
  2. I wouldn't buy comp or coll on it anyhow. I take my chances on my older vehicles with just liability. I don't know what would happen if I was driving in a no-fault state like Michigan and some other driver crashed into me. They could probably ram me with impunity or immunity. Oh well! I decided to call the owner and the ad has been deleted. I didn't think it would last long.
  3. Now, that's a thought. It should have occurred to me that it could have been flooded.
  4. Roll it backwards and it will come right up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Nice Car! Yeah, I'm sure, especially a GM product. And this corvette has a salvage title. But, in the photos it appears quite nice and convertible corvettes are a little more rare. If it was a manual tranny car, I would have looked at it today. Seems like heresy to put an auto in a corvette. But, I'm old and old school. I fondly remember my 4 speed Chevelle hot rods.
  6. I can pick up the 500lb Kawasaki fortunately. If I had been riding one of the 800lb bikes, I would have needed help for sure. A man about half my age stopped behind me and offered to help. But, I only needed him to put the kickstand down since I failed to do that before picking it up from the right side. Anyhow, it was a very good lesson that didn't do much harm. Maybe other members can benefit from my mistake.
  7. Recently, I started looking at craigslist again. A very bad habit! https://wilmington.craigslist.org/cto/d/riegelwood-1998-corvette-convertible/7173376557.html
  8. I've developed this nasty habit of easing through stop signs when riding my 500lb Kawasaki. Well yesterday I was about to do that but a car was close and I decided at the last minute to stop (without straightening the front wheel) and I fell over! Dang it! The embarassment! No damage to the old fart. The bike suffered a slightly bent brake handle that I straightened, some scratches on the windshield, and the right rear signal light lens broke. I had a lense I replaced it with from a replaced light that had a broken rubber stalk. So, it doesn't appear it cost me anything but embarassment. It was a good lesson to stop running stop signs!!!
  9. My electronic multimeter will read higher than actual voltage when the 9 volt battery is low. I checked my battery voltage one time and it read 18 volts! So, I checked a couple of other vehicles batteries and they also read 18 volts. Changed the 9V battery in the multimeter and it read correctly. So, compare the reading with other vehicles to see if they are the same.
  10. According to my googling, most gasoline cans are made of blow molded polyethylene. The bleach bottles have HDPE, high density polyethylene, molded on the bottom. So, I'm sure the material would withstand the gasoline. I'd imagine that bleach would have to have a substantial bottle for transport. But, use at your own risk. A bottle of gasoline in the saddlebag involves a certain amount of risk no matter what it's made of. I'd use one leaving an air space at the top for expansion.
  11. Hey, the Sturgis rally starts today! How fast can you get there?
  12. I just had a similar problem with my 07. The problem was that the bellows or diaphragm under the MC cover had become loose and was on the bottom of the reseroir blocking the fluid from going to the MC.
  13. I have some fond memories of my first bike a 71 CB350 Honda, a good starter bike but not one I'd want again. I have fond memories of my next bike a 73 CB750 Honda. Loved that bike! My 83 Yamaha Virago was a good bike but didn't like the underpowered vibrating Vtwin. I have fond memories of my 81 Honda CB900C. Kinda wish I hadn't sold it. I like my 85 ZN700. Plenty of power and light enough to enjoy in town. I sorta liked the 04 Kawasaki Concours. It has some good features, comfortable, fast, 7 1/2 gallon tank for car like touring range, but it was really top heavy and hard to handle at low speed and a little like a sport bike seating position with weight on the hands. Still undecided about my 89 Venture? I'm liking the 07 Venture more the more I ride it. I didn't like it that much initially because it looks like a Harley. I don't like the heavy steering and the gear whine but it's a great bike really for what I paid for it! Super comfy! Plenty of power! At 76, I don't see any "new" bikes in my future but I'm going to hang on to at least one of mine until I cain't ride any more!
  14. I finally got around to setting up the forum so the last post is the first one on my screen. Helps save time.
  15. I just bought a bunch of bleach that I used to spray the driveway and walkways before pressure washing the concrete to kill the mildew. And it occurred to me that one of those 2.5 qt bleach bottles might fit in the RSV saddlebags. So, I tried it and it fits with the height just barely clearing the lid. I imagine bleach bottles are pretty hardy bottles that should be reliable gas containers. Anyhow, just a thought. Use at your own risk!!!!!!

    Covid??

I checked yesterday on the data for NC. Only 5% of the deaths attributed to covid 19 are people under 50 years of age. So, it's really hitting us old farts hard. Be careful out there.
  17. I have cut coil springs before in my 1970 Mustang (long time ago). It came with a 302 cu in V8 and C4 auto. I wanted it to handle better and part of what I did was to install 428 cu in V8 springs. Naturally they raised the front way too high so I removed them and cut 3/4 of one coil off with a hack saw. The hack saw easily cut through the steel used for coil springs. They aren't that hard because they have to have lots of tensile strength. But, cutting the coils will cause the suspension to bottom out quicker. I don't know if that will be a problem in your situation.
  18. Well, the facebook ad now says SOLD. Did one of us buy it?
  19. This should say clockwise until they bottom out.
  20. there are 12 of these videos that you may want to watch if you haven't seen them.
  21. That price does seem too high. But, when you are buying old cars and bikes, the condition of the unit means a lot. It's worth it to pay more for a bike in beautiful condition ready to ride. At least one member of this forum bought an 83 cheap and then spent about $5,000 before getting everything repaired so it was a reliable ride. I think he was pleased with the final result.
  22. The problem I had with my homemade carb tune is that the vacuum pulses kept the level in the tubes moving quite a bit. The motion pro unit I had did have tiny orifices in the lines to prevent that. And if the carbs are out of sync a lot as mine were after mistakenly turning the wrong screws somehow, the fluid is sucked into the intake. So, maybe the carbtune is the best idea if you have a hundred bucks to spend.
  23. From what I've read the refineries put their gasoline in the same pipeline and get an equivalent amount out at the destination. The gasoline taken out could have been refined by any other company using the pipeline. Then they add their own additive package. So, is it worth it to pay extra for brand name gasoline? If we put seafoam or techron or gumout with pea in the our own gasoline, probably not.
  24. search for the "shotgun" method.
  25. Based on my limited experience with my 89, when the spark was weak, it ran better on a rich mixture, but I'm just wild guessing here! My advice is probably worth what I'm getting paid for it!
