So California just outlawed gasoline powerd cars.......
BlueSky replied to Flyinfool's topic in Watering Hole
I spent my career working on nuclear power plants and yes Canada has nukes, Candu designs that can be refueled on line. But, nukes are in decline due to costs. It's cheaper to build natural gas fired plants and as long as we allow fracking, gas will be cheap. Many of the nukes in the USA have been shut down because of the need for expensive repairs as they age and they can't compete with the natural gas plants. If we really are concerned with carbon dioxide causing global warming, we should be building nuclear power plants as fast as we can. I think the democrats added the building of nukes to their platform this year!? -
Thanks for posting this link. I didn't know just how remarkable Zagger was. What a loss for his family and for his country.

Yes, of course the smaller engines are for the emissions tests for the cafe results. They add the turbo because no one would buy an underpowered vehicle and the turbo makes it burn just as much fuel as the larger engine if you want the power and we usually do. doesn't do that much the same as electric cars charged with electricity from fossil fueled power plants. Except that we are paying much more money for these new wet dreams. -

We are being pushed in this direction by the manufacturers too, maybe because of increasingly tighter cafe standards. Ford seems to be putting smaller and smaller engines in their vehicles. Chrysler is adding etorque to many of their vehicles. You see many more hybrids and electric vehicles every day. If you want a car with a big powerful V8 to carry you the next couple of decades, you better buy it soon and hang on to it. If I wanted to waste the money, I'd buy a new 485hp Dodge Charger to replace my 352hp Dodge Magnum before they disappear. -
Pinwall has these. Edit. they call them Roadhouse mufflers so they may not be stock although they look like stock mufflers http://vi.raptor.ebaydesc.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemDescV4&item=383263585525&category=177996&pm=1&ds=0&t=1601057432740 these are stock https://www.ebay.com/i/124340826251?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=124340826251&targetid=935431405413&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9010078&poi=&campaignid=10877149822&mkgroupid=108755327964&rlsatarget=aud-622524041238:pla-935431405413&abcId=9300400&merchantid=8603934&gclid=Cj0KCQjwqrb7BRDlARIsACwGad7XwReZdvaCee6WeLhY1bhS0x3GhDRBj_DoShzXdYDTBS_Oqjm6OtoaAo05EALw_wcB And these https://www.ebay.com/i/402411193314?rt=nc&_trkparms=aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20160908110712%26meid%3D6e7f9f66c0bf4effb51de374729fd9a6%26pid%3D100677%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D30%26mehot%3Dnone%26sd%3D124340826251%26itm%3D402411193314%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2386202%26algv%3DDefaultOrganic%26brand%3DYamaha

I did a google search and found lots of videos of RSVs with loud pipes but none with the stock pipes. I think my RSV with stock pipes is loud enough for me.

Well, it was an executive order which can be reversed if they get a governor with half a brain. On second thought CA will never elect another governor with a brain. They are screwed. If the federal government would eliminate all incentives for electric cars, that would make them have to stand on their own at least. Same thing with windmill generators. 75% of the cost of wind generated power is paid by the fed guv. As of 7 years ago, Florida Power & Light has built 10,000 megawatts of wind generators across the country and Canada because of the taxpayer help. Perhaps it will be self supporting one of these days. We can hope. Wind generators and solar power can never be used by itself because of the sun not shining on demand and the wind not blowing on demand. So, we have to have fossil fueled or nuclear fueled power plants for much of the base load and peaking power. -

I talked to my sister today and so far she has received 3 absentee ballots. So, the mail isn't going to be the only problem with this election.

I have Nelson Rigg Stormrider pants and jacket. The pants have zippers in the legs that go up about 17" I think. I haven't used them yet so I can't say how well they keep me dry.

Back in the late 80's, I decided to buy a motorcycle and start riding again and there was a used 85 Magna 65 at the Honda dealer that I really wanted. Prior to that, I had test ridden an 83 Magna 65 and found out how smooth and powerful they were. But, I couldn't rationalize spending the money that they wanted. I think it was $2200. Instead, I bought an 83 Yamaha 750 Virago for $700 that I never really liked because of the underpowered vibrating Vtwin. Sold it and bought an 81 Honda CB900C 4 cylinder that was smooth and powerful.

I would pull the valve covers to see if that tells you anything. If not, pull the heads just out of curiosity. Better to junk it rather than rebuild I would think.

Sounds more like a valve train issue to me?

Well, a 13 year old thread was revived. I don't know how many of you follow this guy but he rode his tiny Honda through Mexico on his way south from Alaska. You may want to watch. He has lots of videos about his travels on his Honda C90. https://c90adventures.co.uk/alaska-to-argentina/a2a-episode-11-mexico-part-1/

The Gen 1 Mk1 bikes have poor brakes on the front. Some owners put Mk 2 front forks/brakes on them. All Gen 1s through 1990 have weak 2 brush starters when they went to 4 brush starters which is another favorite mod. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I've always used semi-metallic brake pads on all my autos, etc. because they provide good braking friction for stopping quickly. But, my 2005 Dodge Magnum with the Hemi engine came with ceramic pads. The car has great braking power because it has large brake rotors. Anyway, I changed the pads recently at 113,000 miles and they would have lasted another 10,000 at least. And the rotors had a mirror finish with no grooves at all. So, I am sold on ceramic brake pads now. They don't appear to destroy the rotors. They last a long time and still provide great braking friction. Might be worth trying to help our old bikes expensive maybe unobtainable rotors to last longer. By the way, I bought Akeboni pads for it and I like them because they provide great stopping power and great modulation.
