I saw in the news yesterday that a couple guys who were shot to death tested positive for covid so the cause of death was listed as covid on their death certificate. I think it was in Colorado. There seems to be so much contradictory information coming from everywhere that you can't fully believe anything.

I don't need no stinking dirt bike!
-
We were wondering what you were up to Cowpuc! Nice to have you back on the forum!
-
Things like fork seals, noisy speedometer, leaking clutch slave cylinder, corroded spark plug wires come to mind. None of those are deal breaking but it would be prudent to do a compression test on the engine if one wanted to be more confident of the engine condition. If I wanted an 83, I would buy the heck out of it!
-
A bike that old is going to have some issues that involve you working on it. If you don't want to fix a few things, don't buy it. Don't expect to buy an old bike like that and expect trouble free riding because it ain't going to happen at first. It appears to be a great deal for the price if you want an 83.

I don't think the level shows in the sight glass when the bike is on the sidestand. Might work with the 2 by 4 under the kick stand.
-
I think some have advocated putting a 2 x4 under the kickstand to get the bike close to vertical in order to check the oil but it still is not completely upright and there is a risk of it tipping over on you when you are on the floor trying to see the sight glass. The bike weighs 869 lbs. Wouldn't be that much fun if that thing falls on you.

I use a telescoping mirror and check the oil level while I'm astride the bike holding it upright. I don't want to risk the bike falling on me.

Well, my sister's friend passed today. 81 yrs old undergoing chemo for cancer for quite a while. And they also told him to go home and take Tylenol initially. He was a very nice hard working man who grew up on a farm. His kids have done well for themselves. My sister seems to be doing a little better today. They reduced the amount of oxygen she needs. Be careful out there seniors!
-
Try to get some meds that cure you. It seems they usually just send you back home and tell you to take Tylenol for the fever.
-
One of my sister's grandkids went on a trip, brought the disease home and passed it around to the whole family, siblings, parents, uncles and Aunts, and grandmother and her friend. One Aunt and both of the 81 yr olds went to the hospital. The Aunt was just released with her oxygen bottle.

Take a zinc supplement. I just googled it and it seems Trump was given 8 meds. The important ones were remdesivir, regeneron, and a steroid dexamethasone. He was also given zinc, aspirin, vitamin D, pepcid, and melatonin.
-
Update. My sister was taken to the hospital today. Remdesivir has been around awhile. No excuse for it not to be available to the public. Remdesivir and Regeneron is what was given to President Trump and he recovered very quickly. To be fair Regeneron was only just approved for use by the FDA but the team of doctors had enough confidence in it to give it to the President with special permission. There are other treatments that appear to work such as steroids. But, the hospitals don't appear to be giving seniors anything. Go home and take Tylenol for the fever. If you are lucky, you live. From what I understand, Remdesivir was developed with taxpayer money. Nobody patented it so a chinese owned company patented it and now it costs $3k. We have lots of very stupid people running our country it appears.

I'm baffled. There has been a major effort to produce vaccines for this disease, but there doesn't seem to be much emphasis on treatment. My 81 yr old widowed sister has covid. She was told to go home and take Tylenol for the fever. Her 81 yr old male friend who is undergoing chemo for cancer also has covid and he was told the same. 2 weeks later he is in the hospital and I have worries about his survival. There are medicines that help and they are not being given to the common people such as remdesivir, hydoxychloroquine, regeneron and others. Is it the cost of the meds? I read that remdesivir costs $3,000. Is it because insurance won't pay for it unless the patient is seriously ill? the cost isn't what an ICU unit costs in the hospital.

Wishing you a quick and complete recovery Sylvester! Hang in there Buddy!

Long Weekend Motorcycle Trip to the Florida Keys
BlueSky replied to MonsterBiker's topic in Watering Hole
That was a Goliath Grouper. The one I caught was a baby. They grow as large as 800lbs I'm told. Watch this. The biggest one gets caught at around 7 min into the video. -
Now that you have more hauling capacity, you'll have to buy more stuff from the auctions!
-
Sending positive thouhts and wishes for a quick recovery for a very good man!

The only negative thing I've noticed since I downloaded W10 on my old laptop is that it will freeze up about once a week. I have to turn it off with the off switch, wait a minute, and turn it back on. It did not freeze up before.

Long Weekend Motorcycle Trip to the Florida Keys
BlueSky replied to MonsterBiker's topic in Watering Hole
Love the FL Keys! I worked at the Turkey Pt. Nuclear Power Plant for 3 1/2 yrs and stayed in Homestead, FL which means I was very close to the Keys. My wife and I spent a lot of time in the Keys fishing and enjoying the water and went to Key West many times. The first time we went fishing on the Captain Michael from Robbies Marina, they had a few bait fish in the live well and rigged up a rod for me and I caught this small grouper! This one is protected and had to be thrown back. -
Bike not running
BlueSky replied to jonclark's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The spark plug caps are not sealed very well to the wires. Moisture gets in there and corrodes the copper core spark plug wire. Usually snipping off a little wire and reinserting the wire into the cap is all that is needed to get the spark back to normal. Very common issue with these bikes. -

Lots of places sell OE parts such as partzilla, babbits, bike bandit, carolina cycle, etc. -
Still running hot, any advice?
BlueSky replied to circa1968's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yep, those are the ones. I think the standard advice is to start with them 2 1/2 turns from bottom. When you check bottom, be gentle. Some fine tuning of the idle mixtures may help.
