How do you jack up your Gen 1s?
BlueSky replied to BlueSky's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Looks like I will have to see if I can make adapters. A table would be great but it wouldn't help much when removing wheels. When I had a Kawasaki Concours, I bought an eight feet long 2"x 10" and cut it into 3 pieces. I could ride up on it and then remove the front and rear pieces leaving it on the center stand. If I can get it on the center stand on a 2x4 that would do the same job with less boards. -
Makes my eyes water, my heart throb and my itchy finger itch.......

You really think feeding stray cats is a positive! If you want them to stay I suppose it is! -
As the title says, how do you jack up your Gen 1 Ventures? I was thinking about getting a jack but without lifting adapters I would not be able to jack up the bike without jacking on the exhaust pipes. I've read extensively about the Gen 2 adapters but I haven't seen anything on Gen 1 adapters. Or do we just have to lie down on the floor to work on it? Or use a table lift? I was thinking of getting the Harbor Freight High Lift jack like the one Cowpuc used in his May 6, 2014 post photos. But Puc jacked Tweeks up under the exhaust pipes without using an adapter. I don't want to do that.

Anybody ever use this jack? (Duralast/Autozone $69.99 online)
BlueSky replied to pbjman's topic in Watering Hole
The 59 reviews on the HF jack on their web site never mention that problem. By far most of the reviews are very positive. Maybe Cowpuc will chime in and tell us about his. The HF jack I looked at in the store this week looks like it has a knob on the base of the jack that releases the pressure. -
Tire life and conditions of age

Brenner, You never told us just how old those tires are. How old are they? What is the date on the sidewall? -

The manufacturer has to be conservative in their recommendations due to liability concerns. They do not want to be sued. -

The Autozone lift only lifts 11". I was thinking of getting the Cowpuc special, the HF high lift. High Position Motorcycle Lift But, after measuring the arms and looking under the bike I don't know how to lift it. The exhaust pipes are in the way. Does anybody make some adapters for the Gen I Ventures? -
That's a good price. I paid about $83 for a Walmart AGM for my 85 ZN that was made by Yuasa. I was so impressed with the AGM battery that since then, I replaced my 10 year old 2005 Dodge Magnum RT battery with a $203 Advance Auto Parts Platinum AGM battery and also replaced my 2002 F150Scab4x4 5 year old battery with a $159 Sam's Club AGM battery. My 89 Venture bought last May had a 2 yr old AGM that seems to be doing well still. Just the freaking starter doesn't work well when the engine is hot. I just ordered some larger cables from our friend Dinky to go with the 96 starter I bought off ebay. So, now I need to get busy and change them out.

Engine will not start
BlueSky replied to Pete1952's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My 89 wouldn't start yesterday. Today I realized I had not turned the fuel valve on!! That was the first time I had ever turned it off so maybe now it will be my routine and I will remember. -
Stock mufflers would cure the issue. But, it appears that you want that Vulcan. So, I say go for it! Have fun!

Tire life and conditions of age
BlueSky replied to Brenner's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The original tires on my 1985 Kawasaki ZN700 with 1,058 miles on it when I bought it in 2009 looked almost like new with no cracking or evidence of age. I did ride it about 300 miles, sometimes with my wife on the back, before I replaced them, but I didn't want to take the chance of having one go out. This bike was stored in a barn in Wisconsin and the cooler weather preserved the tires well. The new rear Metzler Lasertec tire I bought from Motorcycle Superstore was 5 years old when it arrived. It's still on the bike. -
Nice bike! I've always liked those Silverwings.

Taking responsibility for our own actions is good advice for everybody. How many people do you know who blame others for anything and everything? -
Didn't I read that a 4.7 earthquake happened 12 km from Sedona?

Wild turkeys can fly a little. One flew by the front of my car just over a month ago on the Savannah River Site

And we are all painted with a bad bruch as a result of a few idiots....

I worked just south of Miami for over 3 1/2 years and it wasn't unusual for a group of crotch rockets to pass me on the expressway doing over a 100mph. They would race each other from point A to Point B in the traffic weaving in and out of traffic. Some of them would have their girl friends on the back. The police rarely caught them because of the speed of the bikes and their ability to go between cars. I read one time a policeman tried to catch two crotch rockets on his Harley and wrecked of course. A Harley is not in the same league as a sport bike. When they passed me, my thoughts were "God Bless Them and I hope they live to have Grandchildren". -
I was an avid hunter when I was growing up, mostly squirrels, rabbits, and quail. Then I got to the point I didn't want to kill an animal especially Bambi. THEN, many years later, I was working in Nebraska and one night I was headed to my AutoCAD class at Peru College and a big buck ran into my car in a 35 zone in Peru Nebraska. That is when I decided that deer were so stupid that they were meant to be eaten. I still don't hunt but I would hunt deer.

Ibuprofen is the most effective pain killer for me if it isn't a nerve causing the pain such as sciatica pain. Nothing seems to help sciatica.

Sounds like you chose well 19 years ago! Congratulations!

I read the article. When I opened the photos, I double clicked on them and they were large enough to read. Very Interesting Reading!! -
Great Story! Jay Leno was always my favorite late night talk show host. Only problem might be, driving that 707hp Challenger may be more dangerous that being in combat. I don't think I would have survived if I had it at that age!

Freebird told us how to turn it off. Go to Settings at the top of the page and then scroll down and select General Settings. Scroll down until you see the option to exclude links to classifieds and ebay and turn it off.
