  1. Now you are in the wrong forum. An 89 is a 1st gen. These bikes are getting so old and parts are getting hard to find. So, most anything you want to get rid of could be a treasure to one of us.
  2. Many tires have a tread design that sheds water turning the way it was designed. Something to consider if you use a rear tire on the front.
  3. 552 cc equates to 16.3 ounces so just use your wife's measuring cup!! Don't let her catch you!
  4. Wow! That's awesome Puc! Lots of pleasure packed miles on those Ventures! So, you've put a million miles or more on 83 and 84 Ventures!!!
  5. There is one on ebay now but the attachment brackets are not included it appears.
  6. My Kawasaki ZN700 called for 10W20 weight SAE motor oil. The second time I replaced the fork seals instead of buying the expensive fork oil, I just bought 5w30 Walmart engine oil and used it. Seems to work fine. The thicker the oil the slower the fork will react to a bump.
  7. The big trucks have to slow down on the hills. Nothing wrong with a MH doing the same as long as the engine and/or transmission doesn't overheat. After all you are carrying your house with you.
  8. Can't you sell your home when you retire and not pay any income taxes on it? But maybe it you finance the MH and deduct the interest, it may be considered a home and treated as such for tax purposes. I've lost touch on what the tax law is now on homes.

    Whine?

My 89 does not whine at all but it only has 6k miles on it. From my reading on this board I think it is a 2nd Gen Venture issue, not a 1st gen. It's also a Kawasaki Voyager XII issue. The 2002 I test rode howled like crazy. No way I was going to put up with that.
  10. Okay, let's be honest. Lots of nekkid time makes us happy!
  11. Sounds like a good parts bike for Puc!
  12. I can't speak to the Gen 2 whine but back about 2010 I was looking at a 2002 Kawasaki Voyager. This was the older style with a 4 cylinder 1200cc engine. That thing had a major whine that really turned me off and I didn't consider buying it. It only had 32k miles on it and looked nice. The owner was asking $4k for it. Then I went to the Honda Dealer in Miami and test rode a gold colored 2006 Honda Goldwing with 8k miles. It was so quiet, so smooth, so comfortable, and easy to handle in comparison to the Voyager that I was immediately in lust for it. Trouble is the dealer was asking $16,900 for it and I couldn't rationalize spending anywhere near that on a motorcycle. It took a while for the lust to subside!
  13. Geez! I bet you had to change underwear on that one!
  14. Sounds like Great News! I was thinking as lean as you are if you had heart blockages, there was no hope for us lard arses! Keep eating those burgers and ice cream! It agrees with you! Might ought to start an aerobic exercise on a regular basis if you are not already doing that. A treadmill or similar for 45 minutes 3 times a week does wonderful things for you. My rapid 50 minute walk around the subdivision keeps my cholesterol down and me feeling great. We are looking forward to reading about many more of your great adventures with Tippy and Tweeks!
  15. I owned a 2004 Kawasaki concours for a couple years. It had a vacuum operated petcock and the carbs had NO overflows. So, fairly often someone would post about the petcock diaphragm failing and the carbs needles leaking and hydrolocking the engine resulting in bent connecting rods. A bad day! I'm happy to hear that our Ventures have manual petcocks and carb overflows!
  16. I didn't know what a Boss Hoss was until I googled it. I'd rather have a Dodge Charger Hellcat!
  17. I worked in Homestead, FL just south of Miami from Jan 2010 to Aug 2013 and it was tempting to buy something there because it was so cheap with the foreclosures. However, the crime was high and if you didn't live in a gated guarded subdivision your home would be burglarized on a regular basis. It's really easy to get a carry permit there. I think they want the law abiding citizens to all be armed. I was ex-military so I didn't have to take a course and got my permit in less than 2 weeks. And the HOA fees were really high to cover the security and everything else. Plus, with the HOA came all kinds of rules about parking boats, etc. So, we didn't buy there. But I do love the weather there. The water is crystal clear and the fishing is good! Homestead is probably the worst for burglaries in FL.
  18. Wow! I never saw one with a loft before! A toy hauler wouldn't work for me because the wife will always be complaining about the gas smell from the toy.
  19. The manager probably made the guy to do this sort of scam.
  20. The Venture looks good in black.
  21. The sad thing is that if you turn off the fuel valve the fuel in the carbs evaporate if you let it sit for a while and leaves some varnish that can plug the jets. If you leave the fuel valve on, the carbs stay full and the carb is not as likely to plug up. Or at least that was my experience with my old 81 Honda CB900C.
  22. I don't know how the charging system supports all those lights. Idling at a stop light for a good while might kill the battery!
  23. Years ago, 80s, the Firestone stores in Raleigh were really bad for ripping off unknowing car owners. Finally, a newspaper reporter did an undercover operation and blew up their scams. A young woman in the office took her car that had 20k miles on it in for a cheap set of new tires, advertised for $200. They kept calling her back telling her she needed tie rod ends, idler arm, shocks, etc, until the bill was $700. That is when she came to me and told me what was going on. I was known as the car guy. I told her that she didn't need any of those things and demand they put the old stuff back on and pay $200. They offered to reduce the bill by $200 and she went for it. Still ripped her off unmercifully paying $500. Aamco was doing it too. A guy in the office had a bad diaphragm in the modulator on his transmission in his 74 Camaro. Took it to Aamco. They called him and told him they needed to partially disassemble it to diagnose and would cost a minimum of $135. He came to me and described what it was doing and I told him I thought it was the vacuum modulator and a replacement was less than $10 and it just screwed into the side of the trans. He called back and declined their offer. When he went to pick it up, their mechanic told him he would fix it that night at the gas station across the street for $35 and he let the guy do it. If he had agreed to let them "diagnose" it. The next step is to call and say the bad news is your trans needs a rebuild. The good news is that we have a life time nationwide warranty. I met a trans mechanic who worked for Aamco until his conscience wouldn't allow it any more. He said he rebuilt a lot of transmissions that didn't need it. Aamco was so bad that the Attorney Generals of 12 different states got together and went after them. I'm sure it is still going on at a lot of auto shops.
  24. You could have bought a vacation home in FL for $50k in 2009! That place was hit hard with foreclosures.
  25. All depends on what you want to do. If you want to spend weeks or months touring, a motorhome just might be the ticket. I would like to have a small motorhome so I can get into and camp in the national parks. Maybe even a camper for my F150Scab 4x4 would work for me. With a big motorhome, you can't do that. I wish my wife and I were as tough as Cowpuc and Tippy. We could just use the Venture and a tent!
