Yeah, that's a fact. When I dropped the Concours (about 670lbs), I foolishly tried to prevent it from going over which only resulted in pinning my foot under the bike. I could not get the bike off my foot. I was in the Everglades National Park by myself in a parking lot on one of the side roads. Luckily for me there was one other car there and a guy from Germany helped get the bike off. I rode it back to my apt. I could walk ok so I didn't go the doctor. My job required me to sit at a computer most of the day. That combined with the injury and my age resulted in blood clots forming in my leg. So, 3 weeks later I went to a podiatrist who took an x-ray and found my broken 2nd metatarsel and diagnosed my swollen leg immediately. After an ultrasound, I was sent to the hospital where I stayed for a day and had to take blood thinners for 4 months. I did not need a cast, just a special shoe for a while. If had been younger, probably the clots would not have formed.

Ahhhh,, the summer of 14,,, ADVENTURE SERVED UP GORMET STYLE!!!!

Wow! If all this doesn't inspire us to ride, nothing will! -
Thanks! It is a very risky thing to do. When you bring someone over, you sign a document agreeing to support them for 10 years whether you marry them or not and bringing someone over on a fiancé visa, you have 3 months to decide to marry them or they are supposed to go back. So, you really need to think about what you are doing and what your motivations are. Hey, we are risk takers! Right! Otherwise, we would not ride motorcycles!

Here is a link that has several photos. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/watering-hole/85963-bought-1989-yamaha-venture.html

Thanks for the laugh!

I don't think the price is bad if it looks really nice in person and everything works. You can't really tell how shiny and unscratched it might be from the photos. I paid $3800 for my 89 last May that had 5,914 miles on it and is in pristine condition.

I know you guys are joking around but a lot of women over there might want to come over. I know of many instances of that happening. There used to be a web site entitled internationalsingles.com I was working in Nebraska in the middle of nowhere at a nuclear power plant with no social life whatsoever when a popup appeared on my computer asking if I'd like to meet beautiful Russian women. So, I clicked on it and looked at the catalog of women who had posted. The guy who set up the site ran full page ads in English in 3 major Russian cities, Moscow, Yekaterenburg, and Omsk. After thinking about it a while I got a letter of introduction and addresses of several women (only about $11 each) and wrote to 2 of them. Both wrote back and I continued communicating with one of them of over 2 years. Finally, I decided it was time to forget about her or to go see her. So, I flew over to Omsk in Siberia and visited. Everything went very well so upon returning I eventually got everything lined up to get her over. She is a degreed electrical engineer and had a son age 11. She has been with me now for 12 years. Her son recently graduated with a degree in computer science and got a job writing programs for a company in Raleigh. It's a little different. The culture is different but it has lasted. She loves boating and fishing, but is a little reluctant to ride with me since I broke a bone in my foot when I dropped that Concours. She had never seen the ocean until she came to Wilmington, NC. Found the photo I was looking for. This was taken May 13, 2006. We've both aged a bit since then.

Looks like a good bike and with that mileage, it should last you unless you ride as much as Puc!

Make sure you get the walks in. There is a reason for them. Wishing you a quick recovery:thumbsup2:

How are you doing Chaharly? I think you mentioned having an operation! I hope you are healing quickly and completely.

So the timing belt broke and the pistons hit the valves? If that is what happened, you could be in for a new block too. I hope that is not the case.

Isn't one reason for the air pressure to help prevent the shock oil from foaming on rough textured roads? -
First ride after three and a half months of healing

It looks great for $250! When I bought mine, it had 1,058 miles on it. The original owner had passed and his 55 yr old nephew was going to keep it. After trying to clean the carbs and it was still running ragged on 3 cylinders, he put it on craigslist. I put a whole bottle of Valvoline Complete Fuel System Cleaner in it and ran it through with a full tank of gas. Afterwards it ran smooth on 3 cylinders. After verifying it had spark up to the spark plugs, I disassembled the carbs and cleaned them again. They appeared clean but I did find that he had lost an o-ring from under one pilot screw and a washer from under another pilot screw. It still ran on 3 cylinders. Finally, I found out #2 had a dead spark plug, something I have never seen before. Replaced the plugs and it runs great. It has about 3,700 miles on it now. I put a National Cycle Plexifairing 3 windshield on it that I really like. I also had to replace the mirrors because the oe mirrors had stalks that were so short I couldn't see past my shoulders. And of course the signal light stalks all broke and had to be replaced. If I had a choice I probably would prefer the 1100 but truth be told, the 700 with its 74hp in a 500lb bike has more performance than I have riding skills!:) -

Wow Puc! Wow! I'm enjoying reading and photos/videos of your, Tippy, and Tweeks exploits so much! I must say you have a lot of courage to go the places you go and sleep in the places you sleep, (and not even carry a weapon!). And also daring to go so far out in the deserts with Tweeks considering the miles on her. (No offense intended to Tweeks!) -
And if you do go fishing, most of the restaurants in the Keys will cook your cleaned fish for you. And if you go fishing on one of the boats they clean/fillet your fish for you. We had the Sundowners Restaurant in Key Largo cook some of our fish more than once. About as fresh as you can get.

Yep, Card Sound Rd might be more interesting to ride than #1 to Key Largo. But, #1 is interesting too in that you see more water and it has a place beside the bridge just before you get to Key Largo called Gilberts. It's a decent restaurant with outdoor seating and they usually have a band playing there on the weekends. Lots of bikers stop there. Boaters pull up and dock and have a meal and/or refreshments.

Betcha they don't have a special tool at all in the way you are thinking. Probably just done it a few times and know how hard to hit with the punch and hammer. -
Too bad the museum is in the UK.

Just looked on craigslist. This link looks like a deal but too far away. 2006 Yamaha Royal star Venture Tour deluxe 1300

Yeah if he bought another similar bike he'd have a bunch of spare parts!

I bought a 2004 Kawasaki Concours that had 20k miles on it for $3k back in 2010 when I was working in Homestead, FL. It was a nice bike, had a 7.5 gallon gas tank, 1000cc 4cyl engine. The fairing and windshield provided excellent protection from the wind and elements. It comes with hard saddlebags and you can buy trunks that are designed to fit the bike. That large tank contributed to it being very top heavy. I had not ridden much in many years so was rusty and old. I dropped it twice. The fact of being top heavy and the slight leaning forward riding position was not to my liking. Other than that it's the best value in motorcycling in my opinion. I rode it a couple thousand miles in the almost 2 years I owned it. After dropping it on my foot the second time and pinning my foot breaking my second metatarsal. That combined with my age and sitting at a computer all day caused blood clots in my lower leg and I had to take blood thinners for 4 months. Soo, my wife told me I had to get rid of that dang bike. So, I did and kept the 85 ZN700. It took me a long time to sell it. They are not that expensive to buy I think because of it being top heavy.

Water Cooled? You must be talking about the engine Harley got Porsche to design for them, the V-rod. When I worked in Crystal River FL back in 08, I wanted to rent a Harley just to see what I thought about it. the dealer wanted $150/day to rent it. I would have paid that but I could have rented a reeaally nice car for that money. But the real deal killer was that they put a $2500 hold on your credit card and if you dropped it they could charge up to that amount to repair. I'm a little slow sometimes, but I ain't that stupid!

You mean the Harleys don't vibrate and they are not air cooled?:rotf: I'm sure I would love the low end torque. Yeah I know some of the V-twins have balance shafts and they don't vibrate. I've owned two 2cyl motorcycles, a Honda CB350 and the Yamaha Virago and didn't like the vibration of either. Of course they are a long cry from a Harley. I've also owned a Honda CB750 four, Honda CB900C four, and my current two 4cylinder bikes and I think fours are the way to go based on my limited experience.
