Opinions on the future of the Internal Conbustion Engine
BlueSky replied to Chaharly's topic in Watering Hole
I flipped the tv to Jay Leno's Garage one day and he was driving his 1919 electric car. He said it had 80 to 100 miles range on one charge. But, it would only go 20mph. So, electric cars have been around for a while. They still don't have the range of a gasoline powered car. They will become more prevalent I'm sure but I'm not worried about it. The internal combustion engine has been refined a bunch over the years and they are still getting better. Smaller direct injected turbo engines seem to be the way at the moment. -
It's a fairly small car, smaller than your G6 isn't it? If you can live with one that small, it probably is as nice as you will find, almost new and much cheaper than new. Me, I love the size, comfort and power of my big Dodge Magnum with the Hemi!! I'm retired also and I only drive about 7 k miles a year split between my 02 F150 4x4 and my 05 Dodge Magnum. My wife has an 2013 Infiniti EX37, the small crossover suv, with 10k miles on it and when we go on a trip, she wants to go in my Magnum that has 103k miles on it because it is more comfortable.

My main resolution is to have the most fun possible this year, which includes riding lots more. Of course also the usual, lose weight, exercise more, blah, blah, blah:bang head:

I'm like an old Buick, heavy and not as quick as the Mustangs, but comfortable:rotf:

looking for advice about buying a mustang covertible

Mr. Condor, I apologize for irritating you. That was not my intention. When you posted the error, Chaharly was curious as to what engine the Mustang had and I was trying to help. Now, you have my curiosity up. Ford bored out the 289 cu in engine to 4" cylinders in 1968 making it a 302 cu in or as it later became known as, a 5.0L. The 289 was only made in 1965, 1966 and 1967. -

Where does the 289 HP number come from? The GT of that year 1994 was rated 215hp with 285 ft lbs of torque. The Cobra had 240hp and the same torque as the GT Do you mean 289 cu in high performance? The engines are 302 cu in. The 289 was phased out in the late 60's. -

Leaving the coolant in too long contributes to head gasket failure or so I've read because of corrosion. -

5.0, most likely the 5.7 is a typo. I bought a 95 Mustang V6 3.8L 5 speed for son #1 . It felt fairly powerful I thought. It had good low end torque. Those 3.8L V6s tend to blow head gaskets which my son's did. I think the thermostat stuck closed and caused it to overheat and that did it. About the same time, my 95 Mark VIII Lincoln that had the 4.6L 32 valve DOHC engine had a stuck closed thermostat. It didn't get very hot and I replaced the stat without hurting the engine. Later on, I bought son #2 a 2000 Mustang auto with the 3.8L V6. I changed the thermostat to a fail safe thermostat as soon as I bought it. I think Ford had fixed the head gasket issue by 2000 though. There are lots of discussions on the web about 3.8L engines blowing head gaskets. -

The Cobra had a 32 valve DOHC 4.6L engine. They came out in 96. Ford never put anything larger than the 5.0 in the Mustang after 1973. Prior to 96 the Cobra had a mildly modified 5.0. And sometime after 96, a Mach I was offered with the 4.6 DOHC and the Cobra had a supercharged 4.6 DOHC -

No, it's either a 5.0 or 4.6 if stock. I don't remember for sure when they went to the 4.6. I think it might be 96? -

It's a beauty! -
My garage is a blibbett! (ten lbs of stuff in a 5 lb bag) Quite often I needed a special tool that I knew was in the garage somewhere but after looking, I'd buy another.

Since the average temperature around the globe hasn't warmed in the last 15 years, it's now called "Climate Change".

I'm interested in the fuel mileage change if any. -
All we can do is keep the weight in check, exercise, and eat reasonably good food and hope for the best. And do what the Doc says.

I think the newer ones have more solid bodies. The new Mustangs are world class cars, as good as anything built. -
Gorgeous sports car! I'd like to see the specs on it.

New to me 1989 Venture,
BlueSky replied to Mcolabella's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You just gotta post some photos of that new treasure! Lots of things that could be done such as flush the brake lines, clutch line, replace fuel filter, drain the fuel tank to maybe get some of the rust particles out of the bottom, disconnect all of the electrical connections and clean/spray them with contact cleaner, install a 4 brush starter in place of the 2 brush, and replace the fork springs with progressives. I'm sure others will chime in with other ideas. -

The earlier 3.8L V6s were prone to blowing head gaskets if they overheated at all. But, I think that issue was fixed on the 2000 and newer V6s. I'm not sure exactly when it was fixed. I bought my oldest son a 95 V6 and it blew a head gasket. I think the thermostat stuck closed. Later on I bought second son a used 2000 V6 and didn't have any problems with it. As soon as I bought it, I installed a fail safe thermostat in the cooling system. -
I feel your pain. I have a Sears 18" 3.4cc gas chain saw that I bought about 1980. Boy is it a pain to get started. I use it about once every several years. If at all possible use ethanol free gasoline in all of your small engines that sit. It makes a big difference in how hard it is for them to be started. The local Home Depot won't warranty lawn tools with small engines if you use ethanol mix gasoline.

I got to ride in the new 2016 Mustang GT today when he took me to the dealer to pick up my car that he had been driving since he came home for the holidays. WOW! It is sooo nice. It is so solid feeling and so well insulated for road noise. It is a far cry from the Mustangs of old. The 435hp engine is impressive too.

Well, today he bought a new 2016 GT Mustang. That was what he originally wanted and then got sidetracked on the Corvette. The 2007 Corvette Z06 with 5.8k miles was just about the same price as the new 2016 GT Mustang.
