  1. Buying a $750 Venture with the expectation to ride it a thousand miles home is fairly optimistic I would say. There are lots of Gen Is out there if you don't mind traveling.
  2. Okay, now you got me looking at ST1300s. It would be nice to have a fuel injected engine and that famous Honda smoothness. And there is a dealer in town that also handles Suzuki. That's it other than the Harley dealer and they never did appeal to me other than I like the sound. From what I've read, there appears to be minimal problems with ST1300s. I also did some research on the BMW R1150RT and 1200RT. I think I would like the seating position better on them but they are fugly and the reliability is not as good as the Honda. Parts and dealer charges are also noticeably higher.
  3. Yeah, don't you have an 87 parts bike that has a low mileage engine. Couldn't you move that drive train to Tweeks? But, I suppose everybody deserves another bike every 250,000 miles or so.
  4. It's been posted before and there were comments about riding with one good hand that was holding a camera! I'm sure Puc can ride better with one hand than I can with both!
  5. An engine produces the same amount of waste heat whether it is air cooled or water cooled. It's all a matter of how the cooling air flow is routed. Hopefully, it is routed so that it doesn't cook the rider's legs. Water cooling is much better and more consistent in its cooling for the engine but may not help the rider at all if the air flow is allowed to flow to the rider's legs. That said, I wouldn't buy a bike that only had air cooling because of engine longevity.
  6. I likey:big-grin-emoticon:
  7. I always joked about financing a vehicle. The first 3 months is the honeymoon and then the remainder of the payments is the hangover.
  8. A co-worker once wanted to buy a new car really bad. He had the fever! But he needed to get his wife on board with the decision. When he talked to her and told her how bad he wanted to buy a new car, she said, "The new car fever will pass in a couple of weeks!" That was not what he wanted to hear but he didn't buy and a couple of weeks later she was correct.
  9. Don't you mean she's a 13 hundred? FJR
  10. There is a lot of discussion on the internet about this subject. I found this article that says Honda makes sure the bikes don't have the weave any more. http://canadamotoguide.com/2012/11/16/interview-dave-hancock-head-of-product-planning-and-business-development-honda-motor-europe/
  11. Here is one not far from me that same year and color I believe but much cheaper and half the miles. http://norfolk.craigslist.org/mcy/5505300184.html
  12. Congratulations on selling your hawg! If you sell the boat will you also be selling you Avalanche with the mega-sized engine?
  13. Great bike! Typical Honda! That one is priced rather high seems to me. The only negative thing I've read about them is that with bags and trunk they get very unstable at about 115 mph!!
  14. Unfortunately, some auto/bike dealers will pull every trick in the book, ethical, legal, or not to get more money out of you.
  15. Looks like a big difference in seating position. The RSV has a cruiser position. If you are comfortable on the BMW with your feet under you, I suspect you will indeed love it. The wife's comfort may be the deciding factor. Looks like a big difference for her. I'd love to ride one of those to see how I would like it.
  16. Well, you don't need a $12k rig to enjoy riding occasionally. A cheap small bike in the garage might still be nice to have to feel the wind sometimes. Nobody enjoys biking more than Cowpuc and he keeps his investment very low in dollars but huge in stickers, personality, and loads of pleasure packed miles! Maybe Tweeks sister is in your future!?
  17. Well, a nice Wing costs as much as a Harley. The RSV may be the best deal out there. And it doesn't vibrate.
  18. A couple of nights ago, I was searching through craigslist and I found a Gen I trike. I think it cost about $5k. Don't remember exactly where I saw it though.
  19. And the most expensive!
  20. Last time I got food poisoning (at a restaurant just outside the gate at Sequoia National Park or the restaurant in the park) I took some Tums that helped a bunch. I ended up taking my wife to the Emergency Room in Phoenix AZ for intravenous fluids and an antibiotic. ($2300)
  21. Way back in 1973, I bought a used 1973 Honda CB750 for a great price that had 800 miles on it. After sitting and getting cold, the clutch would make a noise when released. I called the Honda dealer shop and was told the clutch was dry and I could do one of two things to cure it. Bring it to them and they would disassemble it and lube the plates or I could just ride it a lot and it would self lubricate. Of course i rode it and the noise went away.
  22. The Ventures from 83 thru 90 have weak 2 brush starters. Many owners replace them with 4 brush starters from any 1300cc V4 Yamaha motorcycle 91 and later. Dingy's cable mod should help. You can buy a used 4 brush starter from ebay for $50 and up. Search for XVZ1300 starter. If you use the search word "Venture" it might pull up other vehicle starters since Yamaha spread that word around.
  23. That video is an official yamaha video, one of the series that has been on the web for a while.
  24. The last 7 years, the US Guvment has spent about 10 trillion dollars it didn't have. That kept the stock market going well enough to keep up the value of the dollar. Wait and see what happens when the credit card bill is due. Canada has not been deficit spending like the USA until the newly elected leader who campaigned against deficit spending changed his mind as soon as he got in office. Our next president will probably be compared to Hoover no matter what he does.
  25. The fact that the girl friend placed the ad for him makes me suspecct that he probably was embarassed to ask that much. I suspect cowpuc is right on this one, that it could be bought for pennies on the dollar.
