I have spent this weekend taking measurements and pictures trying to figure out why the seating position is so uncomfortable for me. I have found that in the drivers position, my pelvis is tilted forward making it difficult to raise my feet into position on the pegs easily. If I slide up the seat onto the 2nd level everything is fine. I know I am not as agile as I used to be and this is a new bike to me but it has been a struggle. The leg position is uncomfortable as well. Is there anything seat wise that would help tilt the pelvis back to a more level and comfortable spot? This is an 87 2nd Gen. Thanks.

Well, send that tire to me and I'll dispose of it properly for you.

Here's One For You...

At 12.07 volts it is a 50% discharged battery. Should be around 12.6. There is a huge difference in that half volt. If your 12.07 reading was after a charging session then the battery is no good. To perform a correct test on the battery it needs to be charged to full charge, then let it sit for 12 hours to dissipate surface charge, then load test it. Voltage during load test will show condition of battery. -
Thanks for the ideas. It is a project for down the road. The trailer I have is identical to the HF . I just guessed at the size. I need to get the wife comfortable riding more than 50 miles.

venture taking a pee

Just curious, mine was dropped in a parking lot by the PO. There is a dent in the elbow but no leaking. Should I be concerned? Or just replace it when I am in there next? -
When I got my first motorcycle 30 some years ago, I would ride everyday after work. I had no destination or route. I would choose a direction, then pick interesting roads, one after another. I never knew where I was going to end up or where I was headed. I saw places in my area I would have never seen otherwise. It was the most satisfying riding I have ever done. On a side note, I passed on a trip from Chicago to LA back in 1983 due to widespread flooding out west then. Funny thing, I rode in my Sister's car with her family to LA and never saw any flooding. I learned to never pass up a ride like that again. Now that we have a better motorcycle and the kids are grown, I am going to do a long ride. I hope the misses goes with me. She wants to but is afraid she can't sit for that long. Of course, we are not 20-something anymore.

Have you looked at the rechargable bluetooth speakers like this? [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Portable-Bluetooth-Rechargeable-Speaker-Cellphones/dp/B005LFYCM6/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1397811628&sr=8-9&keywords=bluetooth+speaker]Amazon.com: Portable Bluetooth Rechargeable Speaker For Many Cellphones mp3 mp4 iPod iPhone: Cell Phones & Accessories@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41DQJWtSR8L.@@AMEPARAM@@41DQJWtSR8L[/ame] I use a similar one in our 6 volt antique car. Also, it recharges on USB which is 5 volts and some guys charge it off of the 6 volt system just fine.

I have an Gen1 1987. My trailer is similar to the HF model and I had envisioned a roof top cargo pod like you have in the picture.

I have a little, approx. 4 ft. square, trailer that I always envisioned pulling behind the bike on long trips. Is this an appropriate trailer to do so and what do others use for a trailer hitch on the bike? This one has the standard 1-7/8" ball connection at the moment. Thanks.

whacky cruise control
Money Venture replied to muaymendez1's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Mine does the opposite. I can set the cruise, accel, etc. But it won't cancel with the brake switch. I have to physically turn off the cruise. I'm not using it until I get "a round tuit". -
Tip Over Switch
Money Venture replied to Money Venture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thank You very much Neil. That helps greatly point me in the right direction. -
I have had the problem of the disappearing 1, N and 2 indicator disappearing. But the main problem is it randomly (for my son only) doesn't crank. We found the other night that it was the same time the N indicator did not light. But we found if we lean the bike to the left the N light comes on and the bike cranks normal. Is there a tip-over switch I need to adjust or is it the same indicator switch? I couldn't find a relative thread to this problem. Thanks, Doug

Just some info. The flats on the key are where the pins ride. There used to be only 6 positions, I don't know if that changed. The code is held by the selling dealer when the bike was new. Yes, don't use anything but silicone spray. Have the key punched not cut. The rotary marks are like a file to the pins. I'm sure there is more that I forgot...... YMMV

I liked Yammer Doug also, but I didn't want to infringe on anyone. Venture Capital crossed my mind too. I figure I'm safe with this one.
-
Let's try Money Venture. I hope no one has anything like that.
-
I'd like to subscribe to this site, but I would like to change my handle. I didn't realize there was already a Yammer on here when I thought up the name. Is it possible to do so when I subscribe? Thanks.

I noticed that some of the brands have "reinforced" tires. These appear to have a higher load rating. Has anyone used one and is it worth the extra dollars?
-
Spooge holes are the return holes in the bottom of the master cylinder. They are tiny orifices and plug up from old fluid. What happens is you squeeze the brake and when you let go, the plugged holes do not let the brakes release. I have also seen old brake hoses separate and close up keeping pressure on the calipers. I agree with the others, your life depends on them, it's best to go through the brake system and repair what is needed.
-
Sometimes on those, the spooge holes get plugged. If you open the bleeders and the calipers free themselves, then the holes are plugged. If not, then it is calipers or lines usually.

Front Tire Options - again!

Does anyone use the "reinforced" Michelin Commander IIs? Are they worth extra money? I usually ride two up. -
Bleeding the brakes
Money Venture replied to dna9656's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I did not know the anti-dive units were part of the brakes. I have a right front brake, but the rear/left front feels like it is full of air. And the clutch line leaks where the metal line meets the rear hose. That one still works for the moment. I need to go look at the anti-dive unit. I know nothing about them. Thanks. -
I have had an XS11 for 8 years and just purchased my 87 recently. I see some of the names look familiar from the other site. Could it be coincidence or am I late to the party? Nice to get to know everyone.

Thanks Jeff. Yes, this is the third ride I have been on. I have hydraulic repairs and front spring repairs to do. Oh yes, and the shift indicator disappears in 1st or N. I tried the cruise today and it worked. I was told it didn't. I did notice that pulling the clutch does not disengage the cruise though.

I bought my 1987 Venture about two weeks ago. I have been cleaning and checking to see what all it needed. I took it out for two short rides today and the second one, I noticed the temp gauge went to the top of the green and the fan turned on. Came home and found anti-freeze leaking out the bottom. Haven't looked close yet but it looks like it is dripping from the general area around the oil filter. One more thing to add to the list I guess. It only has 35000 miles, but it seems everything is original like hoses and all.
