1. How exactly do the anti-dives work? Do they stop the flow of oil preventing the forks from compressing?
2. This is an upgrade I want to do this winter. I am 280 and ride 2-up most of the time. What settings do you recommend when I get ready to do this? Thanks.
3. What if that pickup truck had been a child on a bicycle or similar? Sad day anyway you look at it.
4. I filled up Sunday before our ride for the day. I had 171 miles on 3.3 gallons. I know I was careful to get the gas to the same point at each fill up. I know I ride cautiously but this kind of mileage scares me if accurate. Highway speeds 50-55mph. Expressway speeds 60. Careful on the throttle and shifting around 4K. Trying not to lug it. I am close to 100 miles into the next tank so we shall see.
5. This runs along the same line as the sign picture.
6. Thanks PUC for the heads up. The rear tire is scheduled for next month. I need to get pads for the front since..........I'm already in there.
7. I was going to take this one to a shop but decided I might need to change it on the road so I better practice. I might take the rear to the shop then.
8. I decided with all of the cold and rain we are having, might as well change the front tire on the bike. I pulled it this afternoon from the bike with the intention of changing the tire tomorrow. I got bored tonight and ended up pulling the old tire, cleaning the rim and installing the new tire tonight. First one I have changed the tire on. In the past, I pulled the wheel and took it to someone to change. Bearings felt good. Repacked them. I'll balance it tomorrow and reinstall it. It actually was a lot easier than I thought it would be.
9. Still have my XS1100 1979. It is for sale although I am secretly hoping it doesn't sell. It was supposed to pay for my Venture. SHHHH.
10. The Honda crotch rocket rider was traveling at approximately 85 mph. The VW driver was talking on a cell phone when she pulled out from a side street, apparently not seeing the motorcycle. The rider's reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident. The car had two passengers and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them. The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 20 feet from where the collision took place. All three involved (two in the car and the bike rider) were killed instantly. This graphic demonstration was placed at the Motorcycle Fair by the Police and Road Safety Department..
11. Here is my current old car.
12. I had a 1973 Vega with a 327, Edelbrock Cross Ram intake with Dual Quads, Turbo 400 with Fairbanks Full Manual Shift Kit. It would run along nicely. I too wish I still had that car.
13. Is it possible the floats are hanging up on the bowl gaskets? I have seen this before on another application where everything was great until the bowls were installed.
14. Just south of us is Godley, IL and a bit farther south is Reddick, IL.
15. I finally got around to bleeding the brakes today. I have rear brakes again. The rear reservoir was empty but it didn't show a leak. It came to me this way. The hose from the reservoir to the rear master looks funky. I don't see a leak but it would be this hose if I had to guess. The bleeder by the steering was really full of air. Fun to ride with brakes all around.
16. No, 2nd Gens need all the help they can get. Waxing makes it slippery so it can go faster to keep up with the Blue 1st Gens.
17. These are all of my bikes, except for one that I don't have pictures of. The old photograph is my Dad and I in 1982. The selfie is last year my Son and My first ride together. We did it on Father's day. The blue Venture is my newest bike I have had about 2 months. The XS1100 is leaving to finance the Venture. 18. Puc, how "slippery" is that surface? I have always wanted to do that. Not necessarily on a bike though.
19. I ended up getting one from the ad that was posted this morning. Thanks for the heads up Puc.
20. Happy Birthday Cowpuc!!!! From Doug & Cheryl
21. On the XS1100s we coined the phrase "Spooge Hole" because there was no real name for it. Here is a short piece about what they are and what they look like. http://www.xs11.com/xs11-info/tech-tips/maintenance/brakes/53-brakes-sticking-check-the-spooge-holes.html
22. What about the boat spline grease? It is supposed to be waterproof. They use it on I/O boats where the outdrive slides into the spline.
23. I have heard several of you mention the smaller tire up front. What changes does it cause? Is it safer?
24. I don't get pain from this, I just have a harder time moving feet from pedals to ground and back. The base of the seat seems to tilt forward causing more downward pressure against the legs when lifting them. Just looking for an adjustment to help that's all. If the Butler mod would help I'm all for it. Just not sure that is what the problem is. I am trying different handlebar positions.
25. My inseam is 32-33. I am 6'1 but tall on top and short on the bottom with short arms. Yes, 1st Gen. It was late when I typed that.
