  1. Thanks for all the advice , I am pricing another engine on ebay and if I can get it cheap enough I will just change the whole darn thing.. I really like the way the bike sits and rides. At least if I get another engine I will have a ton of spare parts..
  2. Thanks for the replys again. It's smoking out the exhaust pretty bad. Looks like a mixture of water and oil.. Thr evac is just water. I am going to pull the twinkie today and see if it's been leaking.. I may try some mechanic in a can " block seal " when I put it back together this time.
  3. Thanks guy's I agree with residual oil and crap in the exhaust. I am going to pull the twenkie "sp" tomorrow and check the gasket. I sure hope I can find the problem soon . I really like the bike but dang ...
  4. Thanks for the replys. I did get the head checked and they found no leaks. The vapor comming out of the vent is water. The exhaust seems to be a mixture of water and oils and fuel. The bad thing is the darn bike runs great and except for the smoke comming from the pipe and the evac it would be perfect. Heck I rode it around the 1 mile block at least 10 to 15 times today. The oil that came out was a lighter sade of oil so it may be getting a little water in the oil..
  5. Hey guy's most know on this site I have been working on my 83 Venture Royale. I pulled the front head and replaced the gasket and still having the same problems. It is steam comming out of the center vent tube and it's still smoking bad.. I don't seem to be loosing any water but it may be leaking a little. I see the water line turns runs into the block right by the oil feed under a little plate of some kind. Could this part be bad ?? The engine runs great don't miss but is still smoking out the right side. It is driving me crazy. Any help or opinion would be greatly appreciated. I am getting really tire of working on this thing to be getting no where.
  6. Great , thanks for all of your help.. I hopefully will have the head gasket tomorrow and will try and get it back together. I really appreciate everyones help. Oh by the way you guy's will have to put up with me for at least another year. LOL
  7. That;s funny, LOL Correct me if I am wrong here but without ever taking the sprokets off the cam shafts , I get my engine on tdc for #2 and line up the big holes with the cam cap marks ?? Like the picture I took of the head off the bike ?? Thanks,

  10. I think I am going to reassemble the enging and hope the head gasket was the problem.. Anyway thanks to everybody for the info links. I must be some kind of a dumb A$$ but I can't make heads or tails of the setup on the cam timing. I get the crank lineup but am lost with sprocket and cam locations. Also the cam caps were setup on my front cylinder in a different order than the rear head cap locations. Mine were on the head and were number e1 e2 e3 e4 I1 I2 I3 I4 from left side of the head to right. That is sitting on the bike looking down at the head. Any real world experiences and advice would be appreciated..
  11. Thanks , I did just check the head and block and don't see any visable warp from a straight edge. I figure I will put some good ole Copper Coat spray sealer on it and give it a try.. The gasket should be in before the end of the week so my fingers are crossed..
  12. Ok here is the updated version of my quest . LOL I pulled the engine down yesterday and found no smoking gun. I did find little clues though. I took the head to my buddy at the machine shop and he pressure tested the chambers. They were really good. Ok so I come back and check valve clearance , pretty good again. I look at the head gasket and find a place that could have been leaking. I have never seemed to need any water in the radiator but noticed the water jacket part of the head gasket was damaged. The right front piston after just wiping it off was clean as it had been washed. Makes me believe the head gasket was bad. I did see some old stains in the front cylinders like water had sat in them for some time. They cleaned right up and both cylinders hold carb cleaner and don't leak down. I guess it's going to be a nail biter when I crank it back up.. Wish me luck.. :fingers-crossed-emo:fingers-crossed-emo:fingers-crossed-emo
  13. How big a pain in the butt is it to take the engine out and break the case ??
  14. Man this engine is killing me , I can't find what is wrong with the cylinder. I checked the head with it upside down filled with fuel and nothing , it didn't leak down. I can't find the leak in the head gasket and the piston rings don't seem stuck or broken. I am at a loss. For the compression to be as low as it was and to smoke as bad as it did I would fighure it should be pretty easy to find..
  15. Hey thanks to both of you for the info.. Sorry about the year of the bike thing. It is a 1983 if that makes a difference. I cannot make a definate decision on what it could be. I pulled the head and the layered head gasket came apart in three pieces. I am kind of leaning toward the gasket . The rings seem ok because I filled the cylinder with PB Blaster and it stayed full a pretty long time without leaking down. I didn't see any obvious problems with the head but I plan on taking to a machine shop to do a leak down test and cleanup. Any advice since I got it apart ?? I can take pics if you like..
  16. Hey guy's I figured I would go ahaed and remove the front head and I want to know if anyone has a photo of the timing marks on the cams. I don't want to take it apart without knowing.. Info Please !!!
  17. Think so ?? Even with running for a few hours ?? I would love to think I could get it freed up if it was.
  18. Ok news update. I did a compression test and it came up crappy on the right front cylinder. I haven't checked the others.. It was 30 to 60 lbs ideling. It would go up to 120 when I reved it up. I guess it's time to pull it down and find out whats going on..
  19. That's good to know I can remove the head in frame. The oil level is right on the money. I am going to try and use the seafoam first but in my heart I feel there is something wrong with the head..
  20. Thanks for the advice guy's. I have been driving it around and most likely put a real 20 or so miles on it since getting it running. It stopped the blow by for a little while but now it's worse than ever. I will try the Seafoam and marvel mystery oil first. I have a gut feeling it's still a head or gasket problem but will try anything first. If that don't work can I remove the head with the engine still in the bike ??
  21. Oil was dirty but no water. The new oil looks fine.. Just a little dirty now.. Any ideas??
  22. Thanks I will try that. I would rather take a butt whipping than to pull it down. LOL It did seem to stop the vapor for a while but now it's worse than it was when I first cranked it up.. Anybody had any problems with the heads ??
